  • With 2019 coming to a close, it's time to think about cycling goals for 2020. My goals are more focused on enjoying cycling than meeting a numeric goal or posting a new record for suffering on a ride--check out the video to learn more!

Due to other obligations, as well as the fact the living on a ferry-served Island makes getting to organized rides a pain in the ass, I’ve done none the past two years. Plan to remedy that in 2020, the year I turn 74. Still kicking butt.

I hope to resolve my issue with brain cancer I discovered I had since March and resume riding outside. Until then, I will enjoy your videos as I ride the trainer.

    Hi Eric,
Because I like to mirror myself to professional riders (present or past) Riding the (monumental) classics was for me also the main reason to participate in PBP.
A race, short of age, but looks like a classic is the Strade Bianche in Italy. The tourist version is a day after the Pro’s in March.
Because I want to get the Awards Randonneur 5.000 and 10.000. I still need to do the following 4 rides:
    - BRM300
    - Fleche in Belgium (April)
    - BRM1000 in Denmark (June)
    - BRM1000 in Belgium (Borders of Belgium) (September)
Also I’m going to do LEJOG this is a BRM1400 in the United Kingdom from Land Ends (the South-West) of England) to John O’Groats (The North-East) of Scotland. (July)
Of course there are some training rides needed to get in a good shape. All the Big Goals are done mostly during daylight with a good night sleep, because cycling should be fun!
    Kind Regards,
    Xander.

I'm planning to ride at least 200 km and 400 km brevets. Then I've got a long list of bike-related stuff to be done this year. The best thing ever is to ride my Raleigh bike. Not many months left before the spring 😉 Happy new year and greetings from Finland.

I enjoy your post. You represent an accomplished rider without over the top professional/racing advice.

Happy New Year Eric! Sounds like you have a great year planned! As for me I hope to do a bike packing trip on the Colorado Trail this summer as well as a few road centuries and a handful of MTB events. Other than that just having fun on the bike seems like a worthwhile pursuit. Stay safe out there!

Always good to set those goals earlo. What mic do you use, the recording sounds great. Keep the videos coming in 2020

I record the audio on the bike using the built-in mic on my Rylo 360 camera. The only modification I’ve made is to put a bit of “dead cat” fur on the front-facing microphone (the Rylo has two, facing front and back) to cut down on wind noise. This setup works in 90+ percent of situations, pretty much everything except in high winds.
When I’m recording in my office, I’ll generally have a lavalier microphone on myself.
I plan to do a video about the equipment I use, and I’ll be sure to cover the issue of recording clear audio on the bike.
