This was super-helpful for solving the trunk-quarium in my daughter's ST. I'm somewhat handy but also lazy so we started by removing the taillights and retaping to see if that worked. We didn't even unhook the lights; just held the fixture while other one cleaned and taped. In addition to the big square hole, we taped over the taillight screw holes. After heavy rain the next day, trunk bowl was bone-dry! 🎉 Thank you!

    Wow.
Thank you so much for outlining not only where to look for leaks, but also how to get to those areas in such an in-depth manner. This is an _incredibly_ useful video, and I really appreciate the effort you put into sharing this information.
I purchased my Fiesta ST new in 2014 and its been pretty fantastic overall. Only within the past few months had I noticed water in the spare tire well. I was dreading tracking down how it was getting in there, but this video goes a long way removing the mystery.
edit: The other Fiesta ST videos you have on your channel are also good. I wasn't scared to do this, but It is comforting having seen a good in-depth video on it.

Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad it could be of use to someone. I was in a similar situation where I knew there was a problem and there was a lot of info floating around, but not in one place. I figured this video would help those chasing down this annoying problem. Thank you again!

This video is very timely for me. My 10 year old mk7 has just presented me with 2 inches of water around the spare wheel! I know what to look for to solve the problem now. Thanks!

I'm glad the video came out in time! Good luck - I would definitely start with those sunroof drain hoses - you can partially pull the headliner down at the rear to check the rear ones without removing it completely.

Wow!! I can’t believe this. I just noticed my leaks for the first time this weekend and started freaking out. While I’m still annoyed at the whole situation, your video was excellent!!!! I had never seen such a helpful and meaningful video. Thank you so much!! Wish I could just take the car to you. Mechanics will be terrible with this and I definitely don’t have these skills 😞

I've never owned a vehicle that leaks so much water. 2 trips to the dealer and prob 9 hours of my own time tracking down. All these leaks. I knew by switching from honda to ford there would be some quality issues but Holy crap is there quality control issues with these cars. However the car is 20x more fun than any vehicle I have ever owned

Actually I got a ford fiesta se 2016 and i got a trouble with my sunroof at the part of behind drains has the same with leaking on left part of the guide. The question is, how did you solve it ? Did you seal ?

This is a very in-depth and comprehensive and well explained video thank you very much. I do however wish you would have spent a little more time on the very front of the sunroof as that is a very common area, like when the car is pointed with the nose downhill on a slanted driveway.

A valuable resource. I've just discovered a boot leak, which I feel must have been there for months in my 09 Fiesta. So the leak is very small, but enough to make my boot carpet mouldy and a tiny amount of water in spare wheel. Looks to be coming from the right side of the boot, perhaps behind tail-light. Finally going to take things apart and look today. Have been meaning to all week. Driving me nuts.

Great Video, just purchased a 2015 Fiesta ST and found my passenger foot well full of water. I knew there was something up as the bottom of that door and rear wheel well is rusting. Only real rust on the vehicle. I expected something wrong when it is under market value. Thanks

  • @TheLawlbreaker

RE: 2011 N.A. Fiesta. Our car had oval grommets behind the taillights, not tape, but there was tape under the bumper cover below the taillights and that was the source of our leak. That tape came off, water leaked into the compartment below the vents and would just pool there as there was no drain. After years of corrosion, the water began to seep from those compartments inside the spare wheel well. This is pure negligence on the part of Ford and most definitely led to premature corrosion; planned obsolescence in action.

I have this same issue in my 2011 fiesta hatch. You would think ford would have fixed this issue by 2016 lol I don't have a sunroof. I hear it's from vents for cabin pressure that open whenever ac or heat is on. The vents are in the wheel well. They open and whenever it's raining the wheels sling water back into the cabin from the open vents. Pretty sure that's where you're leak is and probably every fiesta on the road.

I had around the same amount of water in my 2012 Fiesta. I also have a leak in my rear passenger side foot well. I took it to Ford about a year ago and the guy said he had never seen anything like it. He then told me it would probably be at least $600 in labor to find the leak and probably end up costing $1000 easy to fix. I think I'm just going to trade it in for a Maverick and let them deal with it.

I’ve tried to find the leak and haven’t. Do you think it’s two different leaks or do you think the water is travelling from the boot to behind the drivers seat?

Did all the rear end waterproofing (under bumper and under taillights) with some vinyl patch gorilla tape stuff made for pool liners. RTV around all the gaskets, seems to have worked! No more water in rear passenger footwell or spare tire well. Was able to test the drain hoses by pouring water into the top, so didn't need to remove the headliner. Thanks for the video man, the tips on removing the bumper from your other video really helped a lot too!

great video. I'm so tired of scraping frost off of the inside and of my windshield. First I found that the spare tire well was filling with water, after ripping off the rear bumper cover, I replaced the tape, sealed around the vents and that problem was solved. but still have condensation inside. Blend door actuator was failing, main door not closing all the way when shutting off car. not the problem either. I cannot figure out where else water is coming in, there is no evidence anywhere. out of desperation I was going to gorilla tape along the roof rails and windshield seam as a test, although I probed under the headliner with a camera while it was raining and could not see any water. I attempted to see if the condenser box drain was plugged, but it did not seem so.

I may have, fingers crossed. I removed the drivers side roof rail/ drip molding or whatever it is called. underneath there is a body seam, but sealant from factory is only used on the ends, which was cracked in my case. I pulled down inner door seal, and found water gets past the seam and makes its way down the A pillar and stays trapped inside the body shell. I cleaned up the drip rail and reinstalled using 3M double sided molding tape. @@JustMattyEntertainment
