Nurse advocates are wonderful people Ken. I'm glad to see you back in your comfortable spot. What little advice I can give you, not that you asked, is to enjoy the 'down time' and set looking out that window to enjoy your view, a good cup of coffee, and pleasant memories. We'll all be here for your next video when you're ready. Great to see you.
Ken, I watch your updates on our smart TV, so I don't get a chance to comment much. All I can say is, you're a brave soul! I would never ever choose to have not one, but two replacements so close together as you've done. Am guessing that eventually I'll be needing one knee done, probably the second as well. But I'm in no hurry. Those pain meds scare the daylights out of me! My body doesn't fare well with such things. Of course, I don't care to have the pain either! Keep mending, and do be careful. We don't want you falling and hurting something else! May God bless.
Glad you're recovering, Ken. The word you were searching for is "Advocate". Drugs also interfere with your recall, don't worry. I'm 83, and fully retired, with a hip replaced, and a knee upcoming. I still do some things, like ride my motorcycle. I enjoy your channel, because you won't stop being active . Keep going,. you're my hero.👍🏾🙏🏾
Ken, I'm pleased to see that you have recovered nicely from your second knee surgery. Always follow the post op recovery procedures to ensure the healing process. Yourself being an active person, it must be difficult to be idle as you recover. I'm sure you'll be back on your feet very soon. For the time being, no ballroom dancing or hockey.
My wife was prescribed Gabapenten with her knee replacement surgery and she acted like she had dementia and Alzheimer’s. I read up on it and those are both side effects. She stopped taking it and was back to normal. Glad you got the other knee replaced. I hope you heal quickly.
Speedy recovery, working in the trades can be hard on the body, in Canada your surgeries and medications would be completely covered by our Universal Health Care, no charge to the patient. Yes we pay more taxes but it pays off in the long run. If your state wishes to join Canada we be happy to have you as a equal partner
I’m glad you’re back home and recovering. In Canada, we don’t pay any direct knee replacement costs. Our medical system covers it, although we pay via all are taxes. The downside, we have to wait forever to be scheduled for any major surgeries. ❤️🇨🇦
Thanks for updating us Ken, good to know the surgery went OK. Now we just need to get you on the road to full recovery with both those knees! Great to hear Lauren is riding 'shotgun' for you, I did the same with both my late parents. Love to her and Chad and especially Sandy!*! ❤
Ken, thank you for the update on your post surgery situation. I had knee replaced several years ago so I can comprehend what you are going through. Be patient, excersise and you will be back on track soon. Sending your support and respect from Czech Republic.
Ken I am happy for you finally getting your health issues fixed after the 35 years of ladder and climbing work!! I joined your channel when you first started talking about the lumber industry prices. It’s been a great experience watching your channel!!! Be safe and enjoy your journey!! From old East Texas man. LOL.
@vernt4583 Me too...when he was driving up over the bridge in Island Pond looking at the lumber yard. Of course, I remember long before that lumber transfer station was there. A lot has changed up in that town.
Glad you are recuperating well. I'm just a year older than you and been retired for almost 6 years. It probably won't be long before I'm exploring having my knees done. Hips will also be on the radar. Appreciate you chronicling your journey and reporting what to expect. It's funny that you talk about not climbing up and down a ladder anymore. Although I'm not or wasn't in the trades, I have done and still do a lot of my own home repairs, including things requiring the use of a ladder. My 3 daughters have "banned" me from climbing a ladder. The intent was for me not to get on the roof. I fooled them, one of the upstairs rooms is by the porch roof and I climbed out the window to do a little roof repair. They found out (one of my sons-in-law squealed) and I got scolded. Well, I guess I can just be thankful that they keep looking out for me. Best of luck on your continued recuperation and your projects.

Glad you are doing well on your 2nd surgery. As I've said had one of mine done last June, and doing great. My wife is scheduled Feb 18th to have one done unless there is a cancelation & the other one done in 7 wks after that. Amazing what Dr's can do. Take care & God Bless you
I'm very glad your surgeries have gone well so far and hopefully you will continue to heal well completely. You have a lot of ambition and looks like you are enjoying your retirement. That's awesome!
So happy to see you are on the mend! Like many here, I have followed your channel almost since the beginning. Whatever project you are working on, it’s always fun and educational, and something I look forward to. At 77 YOA, I’ve had my right hip, and left knee replaced and have recovered from them fairly quickly. Take care my friend, see you on the next episode!
Best wishes brother. Hopeful for a speedy recovery and back to delivering your awesome videos. Very thankful we don't pay those costs for health care out of pocket. Get the heat back on and carry on.
Great video. Thanks for your update. Don't want to stress you but watch the double billing. My wife had double knee replacements through ChampVA and there is no cost because I'm a totally disabled 1968 Republic of Vietnam combat veteran. She did have an assistant come in for help. She finally looked at the billing and found the assistant was billing for house calls and did not show up. The wife called the government office. Hahaha 😅. The government worker immediately was over at the house. Usually one can't get government for nothing. That was funny.
I wish you a speedy recovery Ken. I am glad you found a way to keep doing the things you love. I always enjoyed the building but I also liked your trips you had with your daughter taking pictures and explaining the history of the aeras. Hopefully some more of those in the future. God bless and always keep your positive faith.
In 2015 I had my right hip replaced. Surgery went great and recovery was better than I expected. In 2023 I had a bone fusion of L5/S1 vertebrae in my lower back. The recovery from the back surgery was long and difficult to recover fully but I finally got back to 95% of normal. Listen to your doc and PT crew and you’ll be fine.
Glad the surgery went well. You are such an inspiration for others needing a knee replacement. It will give them an idea what to expect when they have theirs done.
Ken - enjoyed your chat this am - and glad your on the way to full recovery. Enjoy a few weeks doing some R&R w Kaya on your lap and then when your ready for more videos will be right here waiting... Learn a ton from these - I'm a pre-senior who spent most of his days working in front of a PC and now have to time to do some of the projects you are showing us
Glad that you are doing well. I'm 71 and suspect that I'll be doing the knee thing in a few years. It's helpful to hear about your experience. After watching for years it's like listening to a friend describe the experience. An anecdote: My father was born in 1914 and grew up in Peacham. No family left there, but have visited over the years. He settled in CT after WW2 and that's home for us. Looking out on the CT river as I type this- so there is a connection of sorts. Semi retirement takes some getting used to. I've been dialing back for a better than a year. Still adjusting.
I am glad everything went well for your knee surgery. I guess it is too early, to ask can you run faster, jump higher and we can call you the six million man. I know many including me were praying for your surgery. I understand about knees and working on roofs. My knees can't handle that any more. Pray for continue recovery and projects come and go. But there is only one Ken. Take the time to recover and we will see you on the upside. Have a great weekend.
Ken, no matter what project you are working on, I enjoy watching your videos. Hope you have a full recovery with your knee replacement. You're the greatest!
We are pleased that your surgery went well. Both my wife and I had knee replacement surgery during the last few months. My wife also is waiting for hip replacement surgery. (In Canada, our costs are covered by our medical system.) We both had the same surgeon. By the way, we both used Tramadol in the first weeks. It worked well for our pain. We will pray for you during your time of recuperation.
Amazing that you had both knees done so close together. They made my wife wait one year between surgeries. Full success on both. I wish you the same KEN.. YOU most definitely don't have Alzheimer or dementia. keep up with pain meds. watch for clots . wishing you a speedy recovery !!
You may not know this but you are an inspiration to all who have life little adventures. You make life seem easy because of your ability to cope with any situation. My wife and I wish you a speedy recovery and will pray for you . May you have a great day and please , no running, yet, lol. P,ease take it easy and rest and god bless.
Thanks for the update , happy to hear that all went well with the surgery and that they got you medical records straightened out ! Thanks for sharing !!!!! 🙏👍😀❤️
Nurse Advocate.... Take it easy! I'm too far away but people may want to order a custom $1000 coffee table! I am thinking leaves would look real cool in the epoxy.
Ken, Good to see that you're on the mend. You got stuff to do!!! And that,...is a BIG motivator. Don't sweat the money stuff, it comes and goes. You'll make more! Thankful you're OK, for sure.
I was told that I need a new knee so did physical therapy to help strengthen it before surgery. The PT irritated my back so much that I backed out of the knee replacement. I told the doctor all I need is a grease zerk and I’ll be good to go until the Lord calls me home. Those doctors just don’t have a sense of humor. You sir are amazing and I admire your courage to get it done. Prayers for you and God bless!
Rest up, heal up and THEN get up, Ken! ;-) I'm praying for a speedy and full recovery as you prepare for your new long-distance running career. Take care and God Bless.
I am glad to hear that your second surgery went well. I imagine the issue with getting out of bed was a combination of pain and a bit of anemia due to blood loss and all the fluids they give you during and after the surgery. I know that I was pretty weak the day after my surgery and it took a few days before I was feeling stronger. That showed up in a low red cell count and low hemoglobin in the blood tests they did the afternoon after my surgery. I sincerely hope that you make a quick recovery and can get back to all your projects. I am really glad that I opted for a Medicare supplement when I signed up for Medicare. That meant that I had no copays to worry about. However, if you are generally healthy a Medicare Advantage plan can work out in the long run because you don't have the monthly premiums you get with a supplement. My wife got labelled as having Alzheimers too. She does have a problem with the names of things, which can make talking to her a bit challenging sometimes. When she can't come up with a name for something she substitutes names that often make little sense. I think that at a doctor's visit she simply couldn't recall the name of something and substituted a wrong word and got Alzheimers written into her record. Since then we got her in to see a neurologist who confirmed a diagnosis of Anomic Aphasia - difficulty finding words resulting in pauses and substitutions. The neorologist removed Alzheimers from her record. That was important because here in Maine they can take your driver's license away if you have an Alzheimers diagnosis particularly if you are 80 or older as she is.
You continue to amaze me with your laid back attitude on this ordeal. Something that came to mind when you mentioned cost was checking your insurance to see if there's a maximum out of pocket for the policy year. My wife had hers knees scheduled close enough to grab a $2,500 savings on annual deductibles. Since you are probably on Medicare, you may need to look at your supplemental coverage. Good luck there!
Don''t do too much under the influence of the drugs this time! I hope recovery goes well!!!! I had surgery a few weeks ago, they gave me written post op medicine and instructions at the appointment when the surgery date was set. I found that very useful. More efficient furnace is good, you can slowly recover some of the cost of the furnace.
Glad you are doing well after the 2nd knee surgery. Hope you can combine those two train sets at some point. It would be neat to see that. Pray the recovery goes well. When you had big buckets in the title, I was expecting another wildlife update. 😂
A great video this morning, Ken. You need to rest and enjoy the downtime. Keep on top of the pain meds so that you don’t let it get too far before you take your meds. Prayers for you to heal quickly like you did with the last one and be able to enjoy the things you like to do.God bless from Southern Arizona. I wish I could send you some heat, but I can’t figure out a way to get it there, lol. It’s supposed to be in the 70s starting tomorrow for about three days.
@ oops, I looked at the forecast wrong. It’s supposed to be in the high 50s to mid 60s today through the weekend and then starting Tuesday is four days of 70s.
Ken let me say you are an amazing person in many ways and here your updates on surgery are over the top. I can't imagine myself and this process certainly less likely to be as up and cheerful about things. Thanks so much Ken for being and example during a time of concern doing a Fantastic job. Prayers to my friend.
Good morning, Ken. Glad everything is going well. I see you have your support dog Kia. They seem to know things have changed. As for the Dementia questions, I think they are standard questions with our age. Take it easy. I am praying you have a good recovery.
Yay, Ken, got the second knee done! Ouch! Those bills hit hard! It will be nice to have those things taken care of. You are an angel Ken! That's cute about your mom's name. I took Gabapentin once and I was so loopy I didn't take it again! I'm glad you're getting ahead of the pain on this knee! That's the best way to manage it. Mornings are hard. My hip bones and knee bones crack painfully when I get up out of bed. You don't have dementia and Alzheimers! Crazy that you have that in your medical history. My sister has all kinds of wrong diagnoses and they won't remove them! A patient advocate helped you? The doctor that put those diagnoses in has to remove it and several doctors have retired so there is no way she can get those removed. That's why they asked you those crazy questions the first time! "Do you know why you're here?" That's what I hate about digital records, they are often wrong and you can't get anyone to change them. So impersonal. I refuse to be treated as a number! I'm so glad you got a more efficient heater for your shop. Yup, I'm glad you are off of roofs. I'm so glad you could build garages for such a long time. I'm sure it took a toll on your body. I'm glad you listened to your body. I'm so enjoying all your channels. I think the model railroad hobby is great for you to do! Thanks for this video Ken! Change is hard! I applaud your ability to cope with all the changes you've had in your life now! You keep a level head and stay down to earth and "muscle" through. I love how you want to teach about how to "roll" with the challenges. I know having a great faith has helped me through. You're a great teacher of how to deal with life. You are very wise. It's almost like having a "fireside chat" with us. Thanks for sharing your journey!
So happy that you are now in recovery phase, Ken! I predict you will soon be back in action kicking like Jackie Chan once again since having spoken with your “Patient Advocate”😁. You’ll soon be back to wearing your K Karpentry apparel and entertaining us with your skills, anecdotes and madcap mayhem. 😊😊
Ken, praise the Lord for the skilled surgeon and nurse advocate and everyone else including the anesthesiologist for the work on the second knee. Your updates are refreshing. Stay strong and follow orders for a quick and full recovery.
Hello Ken. You are looking good after your 2nd knee replacement. I too wondered how your 1st knee replacement would react to being the dominant leg during recovery. Take your time recuperating, will continue to watch for when new videos when you’re ready. Im sure Lauren and Sandy will be taking good care of you.
I wish you nothing but the best in your recovery, do what you are scapose to do, and you'll be on your feet in no time..........
Thanks

Ken, keeping you and your family in our prayers. Thank you for the update!
Much appreciated
Enjoy yourself and your retirement. I'm starting to get things ready for my military retirement.
Nice to be prepared
Ken, I watch your updates on our smart TV, so I don't get a chance to comment much. All I can say is, you're a brave soul! I would never ever choose to have not one, but two replacements so close together as you've done. Am guessing that eventually I'll be needing one knee done, probably the second as well. But I'm in no hurry. Those pain meds scare the daylights out of me! My body doesn't fare well with such things. Of course, I don't care to have the pain either! Keep mending, and do be careful. We don't want you falling and hurting something else! May God bless.
Thanks so much
Glad you're recovering, Ken. The word you were searching for is "Advocate". Drugs also interfere with your recall, don't worry.

I told the doctor all I need is a grease zerk and I’ll be good to go until the Lord calls me home. Those doctors just don’t have a sense of humor. You sir are amazing and I admire your courage to get it done. Prayers for you and God bless!
Yes the Doctors see your surgery as a Beemer payment.!!
Haha thanks. Maybe someday you’ll do yours
The person representing you is an 'advocate'. Speaking for you when you are unable. That's a good thing.
Yes that’s it! Thanks
Don’t rush it, take care mon ami !
Ok thanks
Rest up, heal up and THEN get up, Ken! ;-) I'm praying for a speedy and full recovery as you prepare for your new long-distance running career.
Take care and God Bless.
Hahahaha thanks
Keep up the good fight. May you be blessed with recovery so that you can do what you enjoy.
Thanks for the encouragement
@kenskarpentry any time.
Wow thanks. Good to know
I'm so relieved you are doing so well after your second surgery! Have a great day, Ken, and speedy recovery!
Thanks tim
You continue to amaze me with your laid back attitude on this ordeal. Something that came to mind when you mentioned cost was checking your insurance to see if there's a maximum out of pocket for the policy year. My wife had hers knees scheduled close enough to grab a $2,500 savings on annual deductibles. Since you are probably on Medicare, you may need to look at your supplemental coverage. Good luck there!
Thanks I appreciate it
I will be praying for a full and speedy recovery. Please stay safe.
Thanks
Glad to see you doing so well, rest up and take you time with your recovery! ❤️🩹🙏🙏
Thank you so much!
Right thanks
Glad you are doing well after the 2nd knee surgery. Hope you can combine those two train sets at some point. It would be neat to see that. Pray the recovery goes well. When you had big buckets in the title, I was expecting another wildlife update. 😂
Thanks haha that would be fun
You had me chuckling when you said you were half an Angell……knew where that was going. Don’t over do it…have a wonderful day.
Thanks Carolyn. Really enjoying the quilt.
Thanks Carolyn for making Ken a quilt. So nice! Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the update Ken! Wishing you all the best in your recovery!
Glad the surgery went well Ken, all behind you now - you’ll soon be back on your feet and fighting fit.
Thanks. I’ll really want to get back in shape
@ You’ll nail it in no time (pun intended sir) !!!
Glad to see your on the mend. 🙏👍❤️
Me too! Thanks
Haha thanks. Glad you’re warm
Thanks Harold I appreciate it
I'm VERY HAPPY for you to have had the important surgeries completed. Your looking Amazing considering and I hope you will be pain free very soon.
😊
Thanks so much
Glad all went good, God is Great.
Thanks. Yes he is!
Good morning, Ken. Glad everything is going well. I see you have your support dog Kia. They seem to know things have changed. As for the Dementia questions, I think they are standard questions with our age. Take it easy. I am praying you have a good recovery.
Good morning thanks so much
Wish you a rapid recovery to be good as new.
Thanks
Ty Ken Prayers
Thanks
You’re to kind Kathryn. Thanks
Thanks I’ll be ready when that time comes
Love the "madcap mayhem" in your comment! Have a great weekend!
Ken I’m glad to hear you’re doing good after surgery. Take care of yourself and may God bless and heal you 👍
Thanks so much
Ken, praise the Lord for the skilled surgeon and nurse advocate and everyone else including the anesthesiologist for the work on the second knee. Your updates are refreshing. Stay strong and follow orders for a quick and full recovery.
Thanks
Ken take care of your self don't work to hard all the best and God bless take care thanks
Thanks 👍you too
You're looking good. It won't be long before you're up and about again. 🙂
Thanks
Ken you are looking good and doing great.
Thanks
Hello Ken. You are looking good after your 2nd knee replacement. I too wondered how your 1st knee replacement would react to being the dominant leg during recovery. Take your time recuperating, will continue to watch for when new videos when you’re ready. Im sure Lauren and Sandy will be taking good care of you.
Thanks 👍
