Was there from 1988 to 1991, where my daughter was born in Wurzburg. Lived in Giebelstadt. Husband was at the Weather Station. Loved it there and many great memories of Gasthouses and Volksmarches.
I served from 88-91 with the Aviation Bde, it is kind of nostalgic and also sad to see what's become of the base. I think I even saw my old apart in town in video, but we worked hard, played even harder and accomplished our mission. Marne Medic!
It has grown a little since the base was closed down. It is still a quiet and pretty city. I was stationed their in early 80s with the Echo company support battalion. We later moved to Kitzigen.
I loved the two years I was stationed on Giebelstadt!! I was stationed there from March 1995 to March 1997 with Cco 7/158 AVN. I worked in the only dining facility on base!
The airbase is still active, as a private airfield now. The barracks are piece by piece sold to private commerce, so the base is alive again. The roads have been cleaned and the whole place is coming back to life, but different. But the best times have been from 2007 to 2009, when the US-Army has left, the whole place was closed down, except for the Glider Club, which was running flight operations for 3 years.
1982 thru 1985. Was is 3rd Recon Co. 3rd ABC... Started in the Ghetto, old qounset (?) huts by old bowling alley. Then we were moved to HQ building in summer '83. Remember the town very well. Also loved Ochsenfurt and Wuerzburg. I go back to what was East Germany every year. And yet have only returned to Wuerzburg twice since 87...
Lori, don't know if you remember me or not (D. Kopp), we got to Gieb about the same time, might have been in Eustis the same time too. When did you go back through Gieb?
Hi, Fred Blank. It's been a long time. You'll have to forgive me, my memory... (I won't use your name as a pun, but it crossed my mind) sucks. But I never forget a face. I think I still have some Desert Storm Dust in my brain. Yep, don't know if you recall but SPC Smith, Curtis, SPC Laws, SPC Griffith and I from shops were gifted a fee trip to Saudi for Christmas of 1990. And I mostly forgot about the ones we left in Geib. If I saw your face I'm sure my I'd remember ya.
@@LRH143 I left for Ft Story Virginia the week you left for Saudia Arabia. I was in the Shop with Glenn McCain. Thanks for the pictures it brought back some memories
