- Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution oceanographer Andone Lavery and her team of scientists and engineers have created the ultimate tool for exploring the largest, least known habitat on Earth-the Ocean Twilight Zone, a layer of the ocean beyond all but the dimmest sunlight. What they find might change our understanding of deep-ocean life. Enter the twilight zone here: twilightzone.whoi.edu/

Loved the ‘ lesson’. The Ocean is fascinating!🐠🪼🦞🦑🐙
This is super-cool! Amazing instrument
It makes me FURIOUS that there are fishing vessels exploiting this zone. Genuinely just disgusting.
You will upchuck if you knew what else they do
When woods hole makes a better documentary then documentary makers Curiosity Stream.
As we prepare for the premiere of A Window into the Twilight Zone check out this video for more info on the ocean twilight zone: ua-cam.com/video/Fma6MM359Z0/v-deo.html
Bravo! Great to see my old colleagues continuing to spread back the frontiers of science! Beautiful film.
Thanks for this premier! Fascinating, as always.
So fascinating, great job. Thanks for letting us watch
Want to know what it’s like to produce a film at sea or what lurks in the mysterious ocean twilight zone? Filmmaker Jennie Berglund and Oceanographer Andone Lavery, and her graduate student Rachel Kahn!, are here to answer your questions. Ask away!
Great job, WHOI👍
Hopefully someday I can be there studying and doing the science.
Fantastic!
Thats cool!
Fantastic film Jennie! Congrats!!
So glad you were able to be here!!! Thank you!! Hope things are going well, Marley!
Very informative video, fascinating actually-who knew? Is it possible to declare the Twilight Zone a World Class Historical Site or even an Ocean National Park? Don’t laugh, in Laguna Beach, CA., we created a natural ocean park area that helped keep oil platforms from our distant shores. Congratulation on your success and research.
This was a really awesome short film! It was incredibly interesting to see how the science is done and how many precautions there are when deploying such a valuable instrument. Do you also collect seafloor bathymetry on these missions?
So glad you liked the film! Very often bathymetry is collected on these cruises, but I do not believe that was done on this particular cruise. You'd have to ask Andone though.
Fantastic but also sad we dont have more views etc
Super excited to see this!
Dream job
Looking forward to seeing this!
Why?
Aye aye Captain Taylor
I wonder how that particular location was selected among numerous others. Was it a random choice? The Alvin Canyon may be quite extense.
You would have to ask the scientists, but my understanding is that the site was selected because it was well-known, and it was the shortest distance from Newport to the shelf break, which is where we can enter twilight zone depths.
Hi, what is the name of the ship that launched 'Deep Sea'? Thank you
The NOAA Ship Henry B. Bigelow!

Question from a 6-year-old viewer: How did you build the technology for the deep-sea vehicle?
Hi there! Learn more about our Deep-See vehicle here: twilightzone.whoi.edu/deep-see/
woo hoo
What if its like Dante Inferno?
How are these small and microscopic marine organisms, as featured in this film, and that exist at these depths, marketable?
My understand is that the commercial markets for smaller organisms is primarily limited to products like fish oil and fish meal. Markets exist for other small organisms like krill.
Hi all! You can continue asking questions here if you have them!
Hi, what is the name of the ship that launched 'Deep Sea'? Thank you
I WISH DOCUMENTS WOULD STOP OVER DRAMATIZING. JUST EXPLAIN NO NEED TO TRY MAKING IT MORE EXCITING
....the loss of comm was 100 percent...*aliens*
Not time, race against humans
Against the Chinese
this video is too long for youtube
Congratulations video, you managed to bring in the leftist politics already within the first minute.
Ah yes, because rushing to learn about ocean life before that life is gone is politics.
