    The deep sea is a world of challenges. Pressure increases rapidly. In the mesopelagic zone, the light of the sun becomes a faint glow, and at 1,000 metres down, the midnight zone is bathed in darkness. And yet, even in this bitter uninviting world of cold shadows, a myriad of peculiar creatures have made their homes, dramatically adapting their anatomy, behaviours and physiologies in order to cope with the challenge of living here. In this film, we’ll take a look at the unique ways in which these otherworldly creatures have adapted to thrive as masters of the deep dark sea.

    One thing I'm curious about is why the light used by photographers and scientists doesn't seem to bother these creatures if many of them are ultrasensitive to light. I'd presume it'd hurt their eyes or even cause damage, like if we stare directly at the sun, but obviously we wouldn't have this kind of footage if that were the case because they'd swim off or avoid the spotlights altogether. Is it the type of light used or something?

    There's an error I noticed. At 9:05, Giant Isopod is said to reach a meter/2,5 ft but a meter is around 3,2 ft. And the largest confirmed Giant Isopod specimen was approximately 50 centimeters. Where did you get the data for a meter?

      @NaturalWorldFacts  2 роки тому +10

      Thanks for pointing this out! No idea how I messed up that conversion so badly, but you’re absolutely right. I got the 2.5ft value from a specimen that was hauled up near the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, but have no clue how I then did such a terrible job of rounding the metric conversion! My apologies for this.

    Your videos are so great !!! cheers from Brazil, from the plot to the narration, to the images, all great, i work with audio and if I could give you one advice it would be : Use a effect called De-Esser, you can find it as a VST and use directly in your video editing software or in any DAW, this will help to reduce the "s" sound and it's reverberations.
