    I do most of my scuba diving in Northern/Western Europe where the twilight zone basically starts at 6 meters and where you’re surrounded by darkness at 40 meters, and it’s amazing to see how similar the species you encounter here look to genuine deep sea inhabitants. Ive been having the worst rapid anxiety attacks at night when the room is dark and the night is silent. My thoughts drown me into madness. But somehow - immersing myself with deep sea content calms me down. It's eerie yet calming. It helps me compartmentalize my messy thoughts for some reason.

    I've always loved the ocean and when I was very young I thought I might want to be a marine biologist. Well, life trundles on and I'm completely unable to apply myself to sciences and structured learning and am thoroughly stuck in the art and literature side of the brain. One thing I'm curious about is why the light used by photographers and scientists doesn't seem to bother these creatures if many of them are ultrasensitive to light. I'd presume it'd hurt their eyes or even cause damage, like if we stare directly at the sun, but obviously we wouldn't have this kind of footage if that were the case because they'd swim off or avoid the spotlights altogether. Is it the type of light used or something?

    I'm amazed by the quality of these videos, even thought I'm more of a mechanical engineering guy I find that these videos just seem to make me forget about what I'm working on at the moment and devote my entire attetntion to them. It's great to see that there's still David-Attenborough-quality stuff being made.

    There's an error I noticed. At 9:05, Giant Isopod is said to reach a meter/2,5 ft but a meter is around 3,2 ft. And the largest confirmed Giant Isopod specimen was approximately 50 centimeters. Where did you get the data for a meter?

      Thank you, this bothered me so much. 2.5 feet is ~25cm away from a meter.

    • @NaturalWorldFacts
      @NaturalWorldFacts  3 роки тому +10

      Thanks for pointing this out! No idea how I messed up that conversion so badly, but you’re absolutely right. I got the 2.5ft value from a specimen that was hauled up near the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, but have no clue how I then did such a terrible job of rounding the metric conversion! My apologies for this.

    I was going down a path of hatred. Of the world of people. There’s so much to be angry about and my fellow humans deserve so much blame with me included. So this out of nowhere is a glimmer of hope. Haven’t even watched it but I know it’s going to put me on a better path today.
