Looks like I’m in the minority here, as I thought that it was a relatively well-done Barbie-themed makeover. I’ve seen a lot worse! 😂 I am sure that whatever little girl had that dresser enjoyed it a great deal. Someone else might have enjoyed it in that condition for a while yet, given the Barbie-mania this summer!
Still, as always you did a lovely job restoring it to its natural wood condition. Especially all those painted grooves! I would have given up in despair for sure.
No need to apologize for the cricket sounds. It’s actually lovely to think you have that nature there while you work. It underscores how peaceful the work can be.
    Thanks for sharing, as always.

I think that the reason these older wood dressers and chests are not in demand is because they are usually in shabby, fixer upper, worn out condition. Most people do not want to do the work to bring them back and, unfortunately, the hours put into fixing them does not yield enough profit. So it has to be a labor of love for whomever decides to make them beautiful again.

Yes I found the Barbie👍 and I loved the cricket noise!

Barry, as usual, a phenomenal job restoring this dresser! You changed a ruin into a masterpiece! I've no idea where, or to whom, you plan to donate it, but that piece would work fabulously in a foyer to store sweaters, coats, gloves, etc. and the mirror to "check yourself out" before leaving, in a dining room as a buffet, or, as it was originally meant, in a bedroom. Astounding transformation! You've given it back its pride!

For me there can be a place for painting furniture. I know some that the materials its made from mean a restoration is not feasible but if a bit of paint means it lives on away from the dump (landfill) then that is a better option.
For those like this that can be restored with a bit of imagination and skill then heck no leave the paint in the tin.
Looked amazing once you had finished it.
I would also say that for awhile that Barbie style made a little girl very happy I am sure so while not something I would do maybe the person that did that did not have the skill needed and this was something within their scope.
Never judge someone's work without knowing the reason behind it.

I've been watching these restorations and woodworking videos for a while now, and it's always incredible to see the beautiful wood color coming out from underneath all that paint. Another restoration that you showed your skill and talent. to answer your question about the diff projects you have, as a welder I work on project's that people order from me too but in my free time I make thing for my family or experiment and try things that Ive seen others do. so it seems that the type of projects may be a universal thing

I live in a part of the country where we don't have cricket noise so I find it pleasant and soothing.

I actually appreciate both the Barbie dresser and the restoration, the restoration is gorgeous look back to the original. However the Barbie dresser was clearly crafted with meticulousness and attention to detail, and was probably a piece that was actually commissioned rather than trying to just some amateur repaint a piece of furniture to fit a room.

Great job Barry. You do transfer passion and love to each piece of furniture you restore. It is not a simply restoration but giving a second (perhaps more) chance to a glorious past. I appreciate your approach to life and respect to the environment. I hope your small atctivity will grow. Good life and luck !!! Debora

Great job! BTW OOAK stands for One Of A Kind - a term used often in the world of doll collecting.

Barry, I chuckled when you remarked about the cricket noises. There is a frog I've named 'Fred' who lives somewhere in my courtyard and scares me on a regular basis (it's his bulging eyes). I never know when or where he'll show up! lol! Crickets/frogs or not, it is enjoyable watching you restore these beauties; "Barbie" included! 🙂

Furnitures, like clothes, haircut or even body shapes fall out of fashion. Whether it is their color, fabric materials or function (this is more serious), every once in a while, they stopped being loved and wanted.
However, being out of fashion is like being fashionable: it never last.
What you did here is to preserve the chances of this dresser to go through its out of fashion period. With all the love you gave it and a little bit of luck, it will in a few years find someone who will praise it as the jewel it once was.
    Thanks for that!
A big hello from France, M

I like the different shades of brown and grey in this - lovely work. I agree with you about keeping the wood looking as natural as possible. I've seen people put a dark stain on beautiful walnut - should be illegal!
