You are correct that the tool in the demo video is too long, but you can get a shorter T10 torx hex key or wrench that will do the job. And yes, we have many customers who have been successful with the installation.
Thank you! Please note that there is a later version of this video. You can find it here: car-analysis.com/BMW-Crystal-Series-installation.htm - the difference is just in the screw used to fasten the gear shift knob. The factory changed the design. Now you use BMW:s screw instead of the two small ones.
It is to avoid electrical damage to the center gear console in the car. Another way is to remove the center gear console from the car and perform the installation offline. For plug-in hybrids, this is the only recommended way to install.
@@car-analysis Thanks for getting back to me. Mine isn't a hybrid so I'll just disconnect the battery, that looks a lot easier than taken the centre console apart.
No, but there is another version that will fit 2018 7 Series / B7. It's a special order, about 4 weeks delivery time. Email us at info@car-analysis.com for more info.
So where can I find one to get rid of all the crystal on a 2020 X7? I would much rather have matte instead of black lacquer and leather instead of glass shifter and knob.
On Amazon, for example: www.amazon.com/Journeyman-T-Handle-Klein-Tools-JTH6T10/dp/B005G3B3TI/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=T10+torx+Hex+Key&qid=1600732029&sr=8-2
Your videos are helpful BUT how to remove the controller is as important as you instructions. So if us viewers can’t get the controller out, you video is not of much value. Respectfully, I have a 2020 Z4 M40i.
While most of our customers have been successful in performing the installations without removing the gear console, a small percentage have failed resulting in damage to their cars warranting expensive repairs and requiring a tow to a dealership. We want all customers to have successful installations. Therefore, we have recently changed our instructions to mandate that the center gear console be taken out of the car prior to installation. It is not possible for us to make videos for this step because it varies between BMW models. But you can use the BMW Repair Manual to figure it out, as we describe on car-analysis.com/BMW-Crystal-Series-installation.htm or go to an independent BMW workshop that can help you out.

Does the battery have to be disconnected?
You either have to disconnect all vehicle batteries or remove the center gear console from the car.
Where do I get the tool to remove the screw with?
Will this be able to fit a 15’ M6 Gran coupe
No, it will not fit an M6.
Is it works with Bmw x5 2002
No, it does not work with a 2002 X5. Only 2004 and later.

@@luvit7567 Make sure to disconnect BOTH batteries, front and rear.
There must be no power to any function in the car before installation can start.
@@car-analysis wow, didn't know they have two batteries, cheers 👍

where is follow up video?
You are looking at an outdated video. It is replaced by this video: ua-cam.com/video/Yj95SSazLS8/v-deo.html
That would be very difficult to do with the gear shifter facing forward inside the car. Has anyone been successful with this?
Almost impossible
