I live in FL. This is 2021. I thought no monarchs coming to FL. But I just bought a milkweed plant front my front porch. There are 10 capillars babies monarchs on the plant. I love it. I regularly have others kind of buttlerflies growing in my Rue plants. I love to see the buttlerflies grown-up on my plants.
I had been growing common milkweed for the last 6 years with no monarchs ever showing any interest. Only last year did I try swamp and narrowleaf milkweeds. Last year I saw at least 8 larvae and my narrowleaf was eaten to the ground. The flowers of swamp milkweed are amazing and fragrant, bees love them too! I would encourage everyone to try several species and see which works best.
Great video and thank you for encouraging my wife and myself to take it to the next level in life, to take the risk and commit to the adventure. I am 72 years old my wife is 65 years old and your videos are Inspiration for us to continue an adventurous lifestyle. We've traveled to 35 countries and by seeing how you take on the challenges has given us the courage to do things that we have not felt comfortable doing. The bottom line we are getting out of the comfort zone. What advice would you give us? You're doing it and thank you for what you're doing it is appreciated all.Jerry & Lori
I've found it's easy to pull Common Milkweed where it pops up in an inappropriate spot, and stick in a big flowerpot or the ground. Watered well, it's likely to survive and return (mine did). When pulling, I never get the entire root, that's like a little potato and resprouts later.
How do I propagate giant milkweeds? I have two large ones - but I want more - the queens & monarchs cats love them. plus they are so beautiful. they grow very well in S. Florida
Hi Alice! While milkweed is important, it's not nearly as important in your area as having flowering plants available in the fall when they arrive and in the spring when they head north. This will help them along their journey.
If you have any surplus Milkweed Seeds(which have had their fuzz removed) , please send them to SaveOurMonarchs, PO Box 390135, Minneapolis, MN 55439 Thanks very much WardChristian
We are doing our best to put more habitat on the ground for monarchs and other threatened or endangered pollinators! If everyone does their own little part, whether it be a backyard plot, small planters with year round blooms, or a largescale project on ag property, we can make some headway and support all pollinators! @@NebraskaPheasantsForever It feels like a mini ice age is here and if all those jets stoped spraying nano reflective material in the sky then temperatures would fall. I am paranoid. Will miss the butterflies the most.
George, you can purchase milkweed seed by calling us at 844-Seed-Now. We have over 250 different grass and forb species available, including several varieties of milkweed.

Loved your video! I live in México, very close to where the monarchs arrive. I wonder... Do I need to plant milkweed here, too?
