I'm for a Wiki camp episode., never have been good at navigating in it especially the way the filters work, nice filming you two starting to look like pro's....🤩
Another great episode. Your videos are always so helpful. A video on the correct use of Wiki camp's would be so good. May seem strange but I find like looking for water or dump points not that easy on the App.
As a grey nomad, my travel plans are ... if it's too cold, head north, if it's too hot head south. If school or public holidays head inland to avoid increase holiday period costs.
My wife showed me how much more enjoyable it is to slow down and get the most out of a smaller region than just smashing kms in spending all the time in the car. Great advice Simon & Liz, wonderful video.
I just love watching your travels.... but I got to say, your Off-Grid series has been a godsend. We head off full-time travelling in July this year, and have learnt soooo much from you guys. Thanks so much.
I find it useful when using Wiki Camps prior to our trip away after saving our potential stops along the way to set up the offline maps for use when we are travelling & do not have internet connection.
Another great video - thanks Simon and Liz. You are SO right about keeping things flexible - to me, that's the whole point of a holiday. We have friends who had every single stop of a half lap planned out before they set off, with every campsite booking made months ahead. They had a great time - for them - but to us, that's more like doing a planned, guided tour, but without the guides. We'd much rather free-wheel it - our planning tends to be along the lines of "Which way should we turn now - left or right?" then just see what we find. Not everybody is comfortable doing that, but for us, it has resulted in discovering many, many gorgeous places, little adventures, and memories for life, that we otherwise would never have found.
You're spot on, Pete. And at the end of the day you've gotta do the type of travel that suits you, but I'd love to encourage more people to let go of the strict plans and just go with the flow. You can uncover some incredible places, people and experiences when you do.
Haha nice to hear WikiCamps are sponsoring you 😅😅😅 jokes aside WC has saved us so many times when we realised we weren’t going to make it to a planned campsite.
Ah Liz and Simon it seems we are of kindred spirits. We have a basic idea we want to do and see and then use Wiki for campsites, water and to read reviews. My girlfriend has a little trouble coping with us and the way we don't plan too much😂 "Coddiewomple" to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination. That's us😂 We even use UA-cam to guide us so when we stayed at The Digging in Mt Kosciuszko NP we definitely knew not to book site 12. Wow, that was a squeeze and definitely no solar. We also have a Zone 20'6 Base. Another awesome vid
Hey!! Simon & Liz, I think I recall you asking if we would like a run through of WikiCamps. I have been using it for years but would still like to see you guys explaining more. We use trip planner as we go etc. but would like more info re filters. Love the way you present info!! Thank you both 👍
Great info, thank you. We've just ordered a new van for the big lap and you're videos have been extremely helpful especially for power etc. Thanks again. Love tassie Bryce
Great episode guys.... My wife and I have just started our full time journey caravanning around OZ with our dog diesel and plan on mountain biking as many trails around Australia as our destination points. Our travelling name is Bummin around on bikes "MTBing in OZ" looking forward to more episodes and hope to bump into you guys.
Thanks for all the great info. We love the Hema maps also. Some of ours are so old! Lots of great information. Will need to rewatch and get more apps! Thanks again and see you next time.
Hi, I love this video. Some real good tips. We just retuned from a 2 month trip. I feel we should have stopped for longer as it was tiring doing too many one night stops. We have a small hybrid and set up and pack up does take a lot out of you when you do it every day. We used wiki camps and Hema maps all the time. Next trip will definitely do longer stays at most camp sites
Love hearing that you often wing it for finding sites - leaving it until the morning of! For peak times where a lot of places will be full, do you try to find less popular places to explore/stay?
We always manage to find somewhere. Peak times we do have to plan a little better. That usually involves camping on private propertyt or booking in somewhere less popular.
I am a very basic user of Wiki Camps, would love some additional tips. I like what Liz does to mark your fav camps. Again this vid had great info, I love paper maps too and have purchased the Camps set for each state.
Hi folks well another good start to Sunday. Very good advice in this one. You're so right about how the planning differs depending on time and where you are going. My choices usually rely on whether Im just car camping or setting up the tent. One thing I do find disappointing is that a lot of free sites say no tents yet Im as self sufficient with my set up as a lot of camp trailers or vans, so it would be nice to see that taken into account more at some sites. Obviously not the short stay ones along highways. The only thing I can think of with that is people are worried about the tents causing damage to grassed areas especially if its hot. I agree with your map choice, also a big paper map and Hema fan. My road atlas one is literally just hanging together lol looking forward to seeing the rest of your Tassie trip. Cheers Cheryl 🙂
You guy's travel exactly the same way we do 👍 and have used wiki for years it truly is the best. We've been able to help lots of others understand how to use it properly too. We'll be heading off the island Saturday 😢
Thanks guys another great episode we really enjoyed it. We're just planning our 5 month holiday from Central Qld to SA you always give plenty of information
Again a great report, you people are just going from strength to strength, with so many doing videos now but you're still coming up on top, Stay safe and well, regards from the bride and myself.
Love your channel guys. I been watching for awhile and love your no BS content with relevant info. Some other channels are now adding in silly sketches which ain’t funny or say they are at a secret location etc. If they don’t want to tell their viewers just don’t mention it’s secret and film it. It’s feels like they are rubbing our noses in it. Love your honest down to earth content 🤘👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Loved this Q & A vid. Well done, you explain everything so well. We aren’t full time on the road, have a base but when we do travel we do it the same way you guys do.
Hi Simon and Liz, another informative episode last night, as you say everyone is different and we need to work out our comfort levels, thank you both for sharing 💖

Thanks Lisa. There's a few different hotlines you can call that give you medical advice over the phone. If we're really remote we would have to call for help if it became serious.

Great to hear, Peter. There's a lot to see in 5 hours of travel in many parts of the country. Not saying we'd never do a long day and tackle 5hrs but it's pretty rare. We haven't done a lot of the mountain passes. Mainly in southern NSW and none of them are too difficult. The steepest we've done was on the Buckett's way heading down.
Another invaluable source of information. Thank you again! I am subscribed to yourselves and ECC's newsletter. Absolutely loving this series as we start preparing for our own journeys. Happy travels. :) Kerryn

Hi guys just asking do you have a problem getting into caravan parks because of being filled with people that can't get rentals and if you had to free camp is that something you can do in most places and how long can you free camp for in one place thanks for your content we really enjoy it
Thanks Antonio. We rarely stay in caravan parks and almost always camp in free camps, national parks or other off grid locations. Our length of stay varies but anything up to two weeks at a time is pretty common.

Hey guys, love your channel! I'm curious if you have plans to ever stop travelling, or is this something you will be doing for years to come? We want to do what you do and rather than get in debt, we are thinking we will sell our house and buy what we need. It's scary step though and everyone is saying we shouldn't. I guess I worry after a year or 2 if we decide we are done, what the next steps would be. So was wondering if this is something that's crossed your mind? Thanks guys.
That's great to hear. As I'm sure you can appreciate, there's a lot to the decision and not something we can cover off completely here. Everyone's risk tolerance is different but we reached a point where we felt the sacrifices needed were worth the rewards offered by a change of lifestyle. Safe to say, we haven't looked back. That's not to say it's for everyone, but it definitely suits our family. We never know what the future holds, but we have no plans to stop travelling.
Would be great guys if you could do a whole video on the use of wiki camps. Would be very helpful for many travelers.
Good to know, Thanks!
