NEW CARAVAN UPGRADES! | Dishwasher Install | What To Consider, Should You Get One?

- Опубліковано 21 сер 2024
- We've picked up our new Titanium caravan and it's time for the first round of upgrades!
Kicking things off, we're installing a dishwasher!
We take you through all the considerations:
-Why we wanted a dishwasher
-Why we chose the Devanti
-How much power and water it uses
-What Titanium did to help us out
-Why Titanium didn't install it for us at the manufacture
-Why dishwashers aren't more common in caravans and RVs.
Here's a link for the dishwasher: devanti.com.au...

you are absolutely correct, manufacturer's refuse to step out of "their" comfort square in order to explore any creative horizons, quite sad really
Nice install..well done. Don't underestimate the effects of heat and moisture on melamine faced board. Next time you have dw out, consider a 50 -75 mm 12 volt computer fan at the rear to aid air circulation. Also to add a fail safe mechanism to prevent rear to front movement by shimmying, you could add 1 low aluminium angle per rear dw foot to lock dw in place. Place a thin ply ramp in front of angle so dw feet slides up and over and locks in. Tool tip: I have found a right angle chuck attachment for cordless drill invaluable for working in RV confined spaces...cheers
Thanks Grahame. The DW doesn't have any feet unfortunately. It's basically a flat base, which makes it tricky. We're not too concerned about the moisture and heat. The interior is ply which is more durable than a chipboard domestic kitchen, and they handle them fine.
Well needed modification, and a careful install.
Great job guys !!
I'd have to say the best mod vid I've ever seen as this was rare, and there will be alot of generated interest with this & probably caravan manufacturers R & D departments waiting to hear further . Good install, very clean & informative, well done!
Great to hear, thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
I have a full size dishwasher in van (26ft) spaceland. Uses 15 litres of water on normal wash and approx 30 amps at 12 volts. Most of the power is used at the end. 1800 watts to heat water for final cycle. Is brilliant.
I always wondered why new vans don't have dishwashers considering everything else they have these days!! This is so awesome! Can't wait for your review after some time testing it! Awesome job 😍
Our son has a dometic dishwasher in his caravan , works great & doesn't move. We are putting a devanti dishwasher in our van soon 👌
Very neat project, first class😊
Congratulations, yes if I had a family, worked and travelled, I would have a dish washer as well. We are full time nomads and realise how much longer everyday chores take. Good on you both. Safe travels. 🤗😊👋
Thanks so much 🙌
Such a professional install. Well done Simon & Liz. Game changer! Will be interesting to see how it goes long term.
Thanks mate 👍
Happy wife, happy life. I am interested to see how the dishwasher goes, including the noise levels.
Thanks, Jo. It's actually really quiet. The caravan water pump is the noisiest part!
Great job on the microwave fit-out. You are so patient! Especially when it was in nice & snug & you had to take the hoses out again before strapping it down 😅😂 15:00
Very nice guys.
Limited to water only 👍👍👍👍
Great idea, can definitely understand your reasons and great job on the install!! Happy wife happy life…and happy Mother’s Day.
Hubby has just changed our water pump to a much quieter one, love it!!
I have this exact same one in my home and it is amazing. I wandered why not more people added these dishwashers to their builds. In some places there are smaller ones too.
For sure!
How exciting!!! The only thing that came to my mind was that perhaps you could put it on some kind of foam base to help with protecting it from bumps along the road and it would probably also help with noise insulation (although it sounds like a pretty quiet unit). I know that when we had our pool pump installed the pool guy just told us to put an old yoga mat underneath and it worked brilliantly. Another thing you might consider is a water monitor of some kind to go in that cupboard to alert you to any leaks before damage occurs.
Thanks, great ideas!
Awesome guys, hope it all goes well because I’m sure there’s a lot of interest. Install looks great!
I would literally kill to have a dishwasher in our van. Such a great idea! My sister has one in her 20 year old van and she loves it!! 🤩
You are so right about the dark ages Simon! We have spoken to heaps of people about thermo mix drawers and dishwasher drawers custom tool boxes along with removing things we no longer use like antennas and everything gas and we got a lot of pushback. The caravan industry has a lot of catching up to do with innovation and warranty and need to line up with the Automotive sector. PS Great video thanks for sharing!
Exactly!! We've come across this time and time again. There's a few manufacturers out there catching up but they're few and far between
Guys, great idea! Looks really neat and professional. Like a comment already posted it will be interesting to see how the straps fair over time. You may wish to consider removing the bottom drawer runners that are no longer used and fasten down with two aluminium angles on either side. Screwed to the cabinet base and in to the bottom side of the dishwasher. I would doubt there are any internal components that low. Just a suggestion for if the straps do loosen over time. I had a camper with a microwave fastened down the same way… angle brackets. Looking forward to the updates. My caravan may be loosing its oven in favour of a dishwasher. Keep up the great content.
We had the same concerns and are also curious to see how the straps go. The issue with screwing into the dishwasher itself is the external skin is very thin sheet metal and we're worried the screws would just strip.
Great video, I always wondered why Caravan manufacturers never had a dishwasher in their vans. I can’t see that steam will be an issue as household ones are installed in chipboard cupboards anyway. Good luck with the trial. The only issue imo will be how it goes on off-road conditions
Absolutely. Good point about the chipboard in domestic kitchens 👍
Looking forward to hearing the results with this. Not a necessary option for us when there is only the two of us, but can understand totally the need for a family living in a caravan. All the best with it guys. Happy Mother’s Day Liz 💐
Thanks, Annette 👌
WOW, I want one 😍
Do it!
With you 100%. We are weekend warriors in a small caravan so our needs are different but for a full time on the road, busy family - totally get it.
...and yay for Bunnings! (not sponsored 😅)
Not sponsored, but wish we were 😂
Consider spiral wrap on the drain hose as they are quite thin walled & could rub thru easy.
Great end result! I love the idea. Will be interesting to see how it goes
Thanks 👍
Top marks on the install. Looks like it is meant to be there. New van looks great.
Can't wait to see where you go to with it and how it fits in with your lifestyle. Love your work. 👌🏻
Oh and Happy Mothers Day Liz ❤
Thanks so much, Kath 🙌
Great video as per usual. You say the brand of your caravan a lot, not just on the video, all the time. Across all platforms.
I’m curious if you are now brand ambassadors or just really love your caravan? 😊
We just really love our caravan! It takes a lot of people some time to adjust to the change
Now there is the face of a happy wife ❤😂😂 happy Mother’s Day Liz
Safe travels 👨🏻🌾🤙🏻
😆👌
You will be glad you did this. I would have done this to our van but we don't have a spare space. We never wash up at home by hand and hate it while away. I think a cycle will take a lot longer as the 12v van water pump doesn't have a high water pump rate.
Thanks, mate. I thought the same about the pump, but it actually delivers more than the dishwasher needs
Awesome job .... looks like a professional finish too👍 my wife is looking forward to the feedback on how it goes... you may have just helped add another mod on her honey-do-list 😜
Thanks, and sorry 😂
Why? Just why? 😂 I'd be so stressed about the water use offgrid. I guess we're just a couple so manage to do dishes once a day in the morning as its part of our routine and ideal for relocation day as everything gets put away. It took time to adjust as we were used to doing dishes at night or using the dishwasher at home. Glad you're happy with it but not an option for us.
Fair enough. It's not for everyone but we can see it being a game changer for us.
@@TheLifestylePioneerssame for us, not leaving home without one!
Very interested to see how it goes over time very cool though couple of things did you look into overseas dishwashers I see all the expiation trucks in Europe have dishwashers and also the over-landing trucks in the us have them also consider putting a thin piece of rubber or foam under the dishwasher it will help with absorbing some off the rattling around
Thanks, mate. We only really looked at what was available in Aus.
Love this!! Interested to know how you guys are finding it 9 month on?
Amazing! We love it, and struggle to imagine life without it!
I wonder if a vent like the fridge vent will help with the heat from dishwasher
I always wondered why people don't put dishwashers in caravans with all the cupboard space vans now have.
❤ your content guys.
Thank you 👍
Maybe sit the dishwasher on a piece of thin rubber in the space to stop it sliding forward?
Yes, great idea. We'll probably do that.
Great job on the dishwasher surely there’s away to fix it by screwing it,I would if I could take the carcass off the washer to check the distance between carcass and the working’s at the top edge side corners to be able to rivet or screw it with a bracket to the side of the cabinetry. The straps will eventually come lose and I would think they will only hold the washer down and side to side not forward or backwards as I’m a cabinet maker and also a truckie and been on the road for 6 years with our van and as you guys know how bad the dirt roads and tracks can get and even some time screws come loose ad fall out but I hope I’m wrong. Always enjoy you videos they are always informative see you on the next video cheers.
I totally agree. We had hoped to be able to do something like you suggested (and possibly will down the track) but the case is made from quite light duty sheet metal and I'm not convinced rivets will hold. It's going to be a bit of wait and see how it goes.
When I say 1800 watts it is for approx 10 minutes.
I have a correction to your article on the dishwasher, we have a dometic dishwasher in our van , a specific caravan designed unit
There you go! How old is it? We can't find them anywhere.
Hi Guys Jayco have a dishwasher in there IV 29.5 not sure what type
Hi guys just wondering what you think of your dishwasher now, having had it for a year now?
Really well. We love it. We'll be doing a follow up video soon 👍
Love it…
👍🏼
Think I missed the video about the new van, you didn’t have a washing machine in the other van now your having a dish washer in this one🤷♀️
Yep! We've even got a washer/dryer in this one!
Have I missed a vid re the new van? You are putting a dishwasher in but have we seen the full walk around? Also wondering if any of you videos have addressed reducing condensation in the van on very cold nights? Very muck looking forward to your video on getting the best out of WikiCamps.
You haven't missed it, we'll be releasing a walk around soon. We wanted to take some time to get used to living in it and using everthing first. The Wikicamps video is also in the works. When it comes to condensation, the only solution we know of (short of running a dehumidifier) is ventilation.
Shmick !
I think you r going to get moisture build up, in that cupboard.
It's not that different to a domestic kitchen installation though?
Hi - now its a year down the track are you still happy with your Devanti dishwasher and does it take full size plates? - many thanks
Yep, we love it. And yeah, it does 👍
Thanks for that
A dishwasher in a caravan is the epitome of laziness,
I LOVE IT
Work smarter not harder 😂👌
How did you find this over the last six months any issues?
Nope! Still going strong 👊
Doing the dishes is the absolute pits. I have always been perplexed why they are in no one's vans.
Same!
Where does the water go when it drains? Asking for a friend 😂
Vans have a waste hose so when in a park it goes into a drain or in the desert the ground there are a lot of parks that need the water. We don't use hash chemicals so it's OK hope this helps.
Into the grey water tank 😋
Dishwasher ????? if this works plus travel well, This will upset the caravan world ,
Well done you two
Cheers, Barry 👌
Dish Licker Is A Must 👍🏻👍🏻 I Have All Ways Had One I Only Have To Turn On Once Aweek I Do Rins Dishes ect Befor Placeing In My Dish Licker 👌🏻
