@@AgWildNebraska Use penetrating oil / oil / or grease.. depending ....yes. Makes life a lot easier ! Cant spray bolts before you start ? Oil the tube your sliding the units on ? Hey there are some people whom are allergic to oil. I have a neighbor whom wears surgical gloves.. Years ago I helped a neighbor .....he was moving the hubs out on his IH tractor for the mounted ear corn picker. He worked at it all morning long........tired from beating on it with a mall. He asked me to help. I told him...get some oil. He refused. Said that wont change anything. When he left for a few moments I use engine oil from the dip stick. I lightly tapped on it....and it slid to where he needed it. After that he would not talk to me for a year !
Scott’s Small Farming and Things same here. Heard of it done but nobody I know has done it. The worst part of it was getting those snoots narrowed up. Those bolts took a 1/2" wrench and a flat head screwdriver. Thanks for stopping by.
I know nothing about corn heads, but my question is, how does the drive system work on those feeder chains that lets you slide them, what lets the drive system adjust to the new spacing?
If you look at about 1:25 you can see a hex shaft under that tin I remove. There's one that comes from each end and powers two rows. That shaft runs straight through the two row unit gearboxes. Think of it as a sprocket sliding back and forth on a shaft. It's the same thing but here the sprocket is inside the gear box.
I just need to find out how many inches each row should be if the two outside ones should be move 3 inches and the rest of them be a inch that is where I am stuck
Massey1105driver yeah about a half a day. Narrowing up the tin snoots was the worst part. The bolts holding them together need a flat headed screwdriver. So you can imagine how that went. But got it done.
Reminds me of my boy...... he never knew what " lubricant " was !
Are you suggesting I should have greased something there?

Scott’s Small Farming and Things . Maybe a bit.
Farmer's solve problems - it's a daily process!
Yes sir. Some are easier than others. Thanks for watching.
Can you change a 30 inch to a 36 inch
You can. But you won't be able to fit as many rows on the frame. And you'd have to find wider snouts.

Ok, thanks for the info.
I got a John Deere 7000 corn planter that is 38 inch rows I need to be 36 inch rows have you done that before
I've not but I think all you need to do is loosen up the bolts and slide the row units together on the toolbar.
I just need to find out how many inches each row should be if the two outside ones should be move 3 inches and the rest of them be a inch that is where I am stuck
How many rows is your planter
@@AgWildNebraska 4 row
@@sorum29 yeah the two middle rows need to be slid together 1 inch each. The two outside rows need to be slid in 3 inches each.
That doesn’t look like too bad a job. What did it take you half a day?

Ida fixed that crack while I had the time if I were you. Just sayin.
Well this video is so old, I don't even remember what was cracked.
