How can people not see that this is satire? Do you think if Coogan _really_ supported Murdoch and his cronies that he'd do it under the guise of a fictional character?
What does satire mean? Anyway, in my opinion, Alan Partridge (I dont know a lot about him by the way) has obviously failed at being a newsreader or whatever it is he did - and now wants to have a go at people like Rupert Murdoch - most likely because he never got a job with his network - I live in the US now - and I can tell you FOX News is the only decent news channel out here - so - if he wants to have a go at free speech then hes going down the wrong road. He should really learn to network if he wants to get working again - 100,000+ views on youtube isn't bad - but it's hardly going to pay his bills....thats just my opinion.
Refreshing to see Coogan giving Dacre etc a very healthy comedic dig or two. I would say "a taste of their own medicine", but, given that he didn't breach their privacy illegally and/or hack their private phone messages, I'll stick with the first option.
I regard Chris Morris as a legend for his confidence, observations and insanely twisted but genius material..Coogan is atleast par. The genius is how he shows that we are like partridge in to different degrees..He puts morals high on his outlook..and sticks firmly to what he thinks is right..but he actually speaks his mind and says things that we all think of internally but we dont speak them because of convention...
Exactly what I was going to write before I realised you'd already said it lol.It definitely feels more like Steve talking than Alan in places....eat my cheese you mother.
I love how people who love Alan Partridge, a character created by Coogan to spoof past-their-prime broadcasters with outdated right wing values, get upset when he does a video where the character supports real people with outdated right wing values. You guys need to stop taking the character on face value, it's a joke. If you agree with stuff Partridge says, you're completely missing the point.
+RandyChimp As Paddy commented earlier: "Some people seem to be confused - Coogan was one of the more vocal speakers at the Levinson Enquiry as he was personally targeted by voicemail hackers from those papers the Alan Partridge character is supporting". In other words: the video clip is more Coogan than Partridge. And by the way, Parrtridge was created by Armando Iannucci and Coogan.
Steve Coogan needs to stay out of politics and stick to doing a character based entirely on taking the piss out of small minded Daily Mail readers, oh hold on
The comments section is hilarious. So many stupid people commenting not realising he's in character. The give away being "PEAR TREE FACTUAL PRODUCTIONS" and the FRAMED PICTURE OF ROGER MOORE 😂😂
Some people seem to be confused - Coogan was one of the more vocal speakers at the Levinson Enquiry as he was personally targetted by voicemail hackers from those papers the Alan Partridge character is supporting.
It's funny that Steve's politics are sincere but Alan's are pompous, hypocritical and self-interested much like the Daily "Hurrah for the Blackshirts!" Mail.
I reckon people become more right wing as they age because love is a hormonal thing. That stuff dries up along with everything else as we get too old. We simply start giving less of a shit about others, even the ones we used to love dearly. So our politics inevitably becomes more selfcentric too.
"This is not about protecting the rights of newspapers to make money for their shareholders by peddling whatever they want to sell their papers... and anyone who tells you otherwise is probably not involved with newspapers." Aaha, fantastic!
Steve Coogan is a fooking genius! troll hating scum against Alan Partridge will struggle to see how their disgusting opinions add (just a fraction) to the near perfection comedy of SG!
Firstly, remember that he's incorporated it into the character of Alan Partridge to back a real-world political cause. His real world political leanings are not part of his comedy, but he is using his comedy as a vessel because he knows Alan Partridge ignorantly cranking on about the issue will recieve more publicity and illustrate the point better than Steve Coogan talking about the same issue.
That's the point. Many people can actually understand this, but choose not to use language as a weapon, which is at it's most evident when people wheel the latin out. Overhang of the public school system IMO...you could boil down the comment to about 2 sentances of easily understood English, but that wouldn't show the world how clever he is.....
I find this hysterically funny on a serious note (oh wait I don`t care anymore, ok just one: The more laws and restrictions there are, The poorer people become. The sharper men's weapons, The more trouble in the land. The more ingenious and clever men are, The more strange things happen. The more rules and regulations, The more thieves and robbers. Therefore the sage says: I take no action and people are reformed. I enjoy peace and people become honest. I do nothing and the people become rich. I have no desires and people return to the good and simple life.)
It makes it even more badass if he's taking Murdoch's money whilst at the same time subverting his whole ideological perspective. Accusations of hypocrisy are literally nothing more than obfuscatory and irrelevant ad hominem that I hope people here are grown up enough to dismiss. The suggestion that Steve somehow isn't sincere in what he's doing because he also makes a living within the structures that Murdoch dominates is just petty and logical swiss cheese.
It's an established part of Alan Partridge's backstory that he's friends with Paul Dacre. This makes sense, as Alan Partridge is a bigotted, closed minded, slightly under educated lower-middle class twit who couldn't be less qualified to comment on politics if he was an amoeba, which makes him such a believable Daily Mail reader that it would be absurd if he wasn't friends with Paul Dacre.
a person who is obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction, especially one who is prejudiced against or antagonistic towards a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.
You have asserted someone as a bigot by labeling an entire group of people you know literally nothing about - I appreciate a lot of people wouldn't get the humour in that, but it really made me laugh 😆
Where were the "extreme left-wing views"? I must have missed that. Maybe you want to portray SC as extreme because you don't agree with him. Btw, the Daily Mail has been rabble-rousing on the right, with little regard for the truth, for over a century - "The minor misdeeds of individual Nazis would be submerged by the immense benefits the new regime is already bestowing upon Germany". (1933) Zinoviev etcetera
Why not argue for less regulation of both? Allow broadcasters to set their own standard....people will stop watching if ITV play hardcore skat movies at 6pm on a Sunday. Obviously the BBC is a forced purchase...why not make the licence fee voluntary and you will have no need for censors of regulators...
"James Murdoch told me that he never lies. And unless that's a lie, I think we can take him at his word."
Favourite Beatles album? It'd be probably "the best of the Beatles"
I love the idea of Lyn herself editing this herself.
Lyn will always stay loyal to Alan. He's been a great employer.
Lynn couldn't edit...... a cat.

Anyone who saw Steve on the Levenson inquiry would understand what a brilliant bit of vitriolic satire this genuinely is.

Don't be silly, of course it's satire. It's not like Coogan would ever take Partridge or The Trip to Murdoch's Sky, is it? Oh, wait...
Thanks for the upload, Lynn! It's nice to see you've acquired an internet presence
period
Probably bought a new computer with the money her mother left her. All part of the bereavement dividend.
I love the digs at Paul Dacre...never gets old.
If we could have a country without the redtops it'd be a much happier, kinder and more civilised place to live.
Thank god it's a totally unbiased group that can never be bought or sold.
Only god can smite him
I presume were both watching it 😂

What is revenge porn?
Hateful and Pedjudiced man.
First thing I that crossed my mind when I saw who the uploader was.

Yeah, I'm going to read Simon Heffer, on the Verandah..

This is great banter.
There’s a lot of Coogan here!

No this is Coogan as Partridge implying ironically what Coogan really thinks.
Lovely outfit, Alan
Let it go, Steve:)
Bizarre that Coogan is willing to publicly mock Murdoch but also willing to take a pay cheque off BSkyB for the latest Alan Partridge episodes.

quite depressing to know steve coogan is a left wing fanny
murdoch is fake right wing or kosher right wing he's a massive fraud
the left are the ones with retarded views in my experience
we need to get behind partridge - about 100 miles behind
Oh Alan you've got alot to learn.
i like alan partridge when he's being funny
They should have had Alan Partridge support Brexit, then for sure Leave would have lost
But then folk would see the likes of you vote remain with your empty worn out phrases and hissy fits, and still vote the other way though!

Now, I'm fully in favour of the sentiment behind this, but... Sky Atlantic's Alan Partridge, there.
