Even Shelob thought that Gollum would taste terrible. He had met her before he lead Frodo to her lair.
That’s gotta be a blow to one’s ego. Even for Gollum.
I'd imagine he would taste all briney and oily from the fish he has eaten over the years
@@jordanhunter3375 Why would anyone want to eat something so pitiful like that? Consequently, death is meaningless in this dungeon so if you get killed, that means your soul just waits for the designated healer to revive you if they realize you have been gone for too long.
It's fun whenever you read manga. Not that it isn't fun when you read regular comics, it's just a nice change of pace every once and a while.
Really hoping there will be a review of Marvel and/or DC manga in the future. Superman vs Meshi, Spider-Man Fake Red, Deadpool Samurai, and Spider-Man Octopus Girl are fantastic manga takes on classic Western comics.
I’m still hoping for a One Piece review
@@talesfromthenuzlocke1619 you should pay him money to do it.
@@Pikachu2Ash I for one want to do that for Parasyte, but that's just me.
@@LupineShadowOmegait would be so fun to see him reviewing parasyte since thats basically just Spider-Man if he had the symbiote from the start and not having his Spider powers
"Don't know how that pig got a flamethrower"
Oh, they were trying to eat a Tepig!
Or trying to deal with The Thing from Another World?
Considering the other Pokemon references he made, I'm surprised Linkara didn't use that one.
Eating Gollum probably tastes like dog hair in the corner of the room that’s been covered in dust and old crumbs.
This series is like a dungeons and dragons campaign where the dm’s stock response is “i’ll allow it”
Given how the series has been developing I think it’s more like the DM’s response is “I’ve already thought of that”.
17:24 do not worry, it very much will be a story of found family, tragic backstories some legitimate horror and dark stuff (but like well written dark stuff that is not grimdark), and a whole arc for Marcille! (that isn't about learning to love to eat monsters but more about her background and her dreams).
Yeah, I spoiled myself a bit on that, but I daresay she's one of my favorites, though I'm more a Falin fan. Kind of a character type I've tried to play and would like to play again if I have the chance
*Sigh* Am I the only one who thinks that it would've been cool if ProZD did a cameo here with his Senshi voice to help Linkara and give him some advice. Legal insanity I know, but it would've rocked!
14:39 The kitty cat was like “linkara papa is yelling at the recording box thing again while holding a comic. Time to get my nom noms”
Dunmeshi is a rare case of a good message being aimed at exactly the people who need to hear it.
healthy diet, exercise, and a regular sleeps schedule.
in a fantasy manga that is most likely going to be read by Nerds with godawful diets consisting of red bull and ramen noodles. irregular if any sleep schedules and mostly sedentary lifestyles.
good job Kui-san.
It really is. It's not just empty posturing either; Laois' party is able to succeed, in large part, because they are eating healthy (if unconventional) meals.
Plus, there is the fact that well, most fantasy stories rarely focus on minute details like the heroes needing to provision well
Better eat monsters instead.
It's interesting how many obscure video games and such the author took inspiration from, including the old Wizardry games
Can't wait to see those recipes on Tasting History with Max Miller.
Man Viga artwork for title cards are amazing she has done such a fantastic job with the title cards
wow never expected this would see a follow up as a original patron who request the 1st chapter lol
What how do I find the video with chapter 1?😅
11:55 I wished Linkara said "food for though" with that joke because it would have tied into both a reference to the manga and somehow be a small callback to Dark night: Metal comic book review. Anyway funny episode as always dude.
Also fun fact that the animé was produced by Studio Trigger. You need to watch it to see if it the same as the first three chapters of the book.
Having watched it myself, it seems like a faithful adaptation. Though it did twist things slightly in the Basilisk chapter with Senshi being a bit less obtuse to the rookie's approaching demise, noting that the medicinal herbs were more effective in food, instead of bringing up flavor and nutritional value, with no mention of him wanting to brine the bird overnight.
I love seeing the cats just show up now and again. They have no idea what Linkara's doing, they just want attention.
8:42 Marcille's reaction is even more priceless in the anime, they just abruptly zoom in on her "What the fuck do you think?" face like a jump cut.
...you can make Popcorn of almost anything you can fry, I think. Popcorn shrimp probably predates popcorn chicken...
Foghorn leghorn: I say I say I say are you a chicken a snake a cannibal or frankenstein's botched dinner
According to the story, Basilisks there are technically a snake that grew a chicken on its back XD
That's also why their eggs look like snake eggs rather than bird eggs.
@@EkoBahamut
Foghorn Leghorn: Boy, I say boy, what kinda a ckocka-mainy botched family tree you got to settle you with a donkey I say donkey sized chicken for a butt.
Gollum technically falls on the not-a-monster side, but after so many years of murder and betrayal, I'd argue he counts. And no, I don't want to eat him. Probably tastes worse than Sadako after she fermented in the well for 30 years.
Laios is into some stuff. I mean, we probably could have guessed that from his interest in eating monsters, but still, dude's down for anything.
Gollum's actions defining him as a monster to be eaten has me questioning if the same applies to serial killers, war criminals, and the less mentionable of the worst.
Don’t think even Laios would be down for eating Gollum.
@@ArcCaravan More of a *can* be eaten, not a *should* be eaten.
Think of it like a horror movie. The biggest cheers always come when the jackass gets eaten or otherwise violently ejected from life.
@@wanderingstorytellerj7758 Technically everyone can be eaten.
Based on the gang's logic, Gollum would not count because they don't eat humanoid monsters or the like. So orcs, which are not counted as monsters but as demihumans, are not only off the menu but also good friends of our heroes because they are the only people who treat orcs as people and not "exterminate on sight" fodder.
It's interesting how the author managed to have a solidly diverse grouping of characters while also not having every major fantasy race under the sun (or at least subverting it). I think we have half elves, though that's a whole other discussion relative to elves anyway. Dwarf, gnome, human, "halfling", orc, ogre (I thought they were called oni at first) and kobold (not the dragon kind, which is honestly more a D&D contrivance, supposedly). 8 total base races, if we don't count the beastfolk that are magically created
"I thought it was a spider. Just cat fur."
I felt that in my soul! 😂
I've just realised the moral for this year of Linkara: Don't take on millions of side projects.
With one of them being even more popular than his main.
@@SuperCaptureDeviceoh so his lamp reviews finally took secpnd place to his comic reviews?
Everyone goes nuts for “Delicious In Dungeon” and it seems so familiar.
Looks like you were way ahead of the curb on this one!
On the topic of how good the food looks. I've heard numerous times from people that reading Dungeon Meshi has managed to inspire them to get some actual cooking experience as well as adopting a better diet. Having read the whole Manga at this point, I can say that I understand how that happened.
if you have high cholesterol, you can cut it down with grape fruit and flax seed, I have been doing that whit Cheerios
I’ve been trying to get in the habit of eating a small handful of Goji berries everyday. Nuts are also supposed to be good
So having watched the anime series, I can tell you that... yeaaaaaaah, the series does get dark. A lot more darker than you'd expect in a show about eating monsters in a dungeon.
I wonder if Linkara saw every episode of the Netflix Anime of Delicious in Dungeon.
They are still making episodes. I have enjoyed every episode I have seen so far.
I doubt it. He’d probably like it but he dosent watch a lot of Netflix
He doesn’t watch these stuff. Just old stuff
Dude's got a lot of projects and only so many hours in the day for new stuff. What would be hilarious is to pateron him the episodes that cover the next chapters and alternate manga with anime.
@@leonardomaranhao2861 Way to assume shit. He's into new stuff too, he brought up a handful of new media on the show before multiple times.
Linkara: Maybe it'll get more darker later on...
Me: Oh, Lewis, sweet summer child. You have no idea.
10:20 you have no idea how accurate this is based on things we learn latter.
Having now seen the anime, some of the scenes from this early on (and how they make Linkara tell very particular jokes as a result of seeing those scenes) shows some truly remarkable foreshadowing skills here.
That John Franklin reference *chef's kiss*
One of the best Thumbnails. Great job to Viga.
10:05 well let's just say that Marcille's form of resurrection is not exactly...the most comfortable and also she is not specialized in healing magic but does have other skills with regards to magic and resurrection (that may not be so savoury on these floors so close to the authorities).
A good diet and exercise routine is important, but I think having people who know details of the monsters and how to cook them is just as viable as the ending of chapter 3 showed. XD
Delicious in the dungeon was a good show. I am still currently watching it.
Learning about Senshi's backstory later in the manga really changes how I think about these early chapters and the Dwarf's eccentricity.
Similar with Namari, though it's only been touched on briefly in one episode. The lore is always fun, given most of the story takes place in a massively vertical setting of the dungeon
Lord of the Rings would have been way different if Sam cooked Shelob. No problem about second breakfast.
following this manga's logic, I'd say Gollum isn't a "monster" since he's a hobbit just corrupted by the One ring
8:56 without getting into too many spoilers, there are several characters in this series who have that exact same reaction to Laios' monster ranting and antics
If anything, it's such that he only really gets along with people that understand his weirdness and keep him in check if he goes too feral and manic
So Laios is a more comedic Goblin Slayer?
@@SuperCaptureDevice no because at the end of the day he has respect for others and their lives.
@@samminden1058 fair enough.
Delicious In Dungeon is my current favorite show on Netflix right now.
Edit... The characters agreed not to eat humanoid monsters. Goblins count as humanoid, so they're out!
Really happy with how its turning out. I love the manga and the anime is doing the story so much justice. Also really happy with the Dub, the voicework is stellar.
Linkara alluding to Vore & being a degree of separation from Smosh (since Damien voiced Laios in the Dub) is not what I expected in 2024 lmao.
Dungeon meshi and your next is MOOMINS?! ;w; I have wished (but not patrion asked) life of Scrooge mcduck, but that's so awesome you're doing moomins.
Fun fact, Marcille in the English dub is voiced by Live Action Nami herself, Emily Rudd.
She does a really good job, her Marcille is funny and precious.
@@Future_Vantas Sweet, comedic, and SPOILERS
The next time you read a multi part storyline from a trade you should say “say it with me now reading from a trade no looking at the covers”
Laios is often headcannoned as autistic - because he has an hyper-fixation with monsters and doesn't understand social cues and situations often. It can be interpreted as being selfish and creepy but he's actually very friendly and cares deeply about people, even if he's unable to express it.
(Autistic too and accepts that headcanon, espically after the later stories in the series)
P.S. The snake is actually the head and the chicken is the tail.
Snake=Body, Chicken=Tail
Me before episode 11: i bet falin will come out of the dragon covered in icky stuff and complaining about them taking so long.
Me after episode 11: *pulse and anxiety from fear and hunger starts playing the background as i come to a sudden realization* ...... Oh no.....
shhhhh
Good news Linkara, all the people that won't watch next week because it's not a manga will be replaced by fins, who will not watch after that. I'm joking, there's no episode next week.
"Cat hair that looks like a spider" is an odd idea for a story arc, but it's a nice change of pace after Contest of Champions.
Good to see Linkara get back to this manga. My friend showed me the anime and the stuff I saw was really enjoyable. Personally really love Laios despite his eccentricities about monsters since he's more or less a positive representation of a neurodivergent character.
Also, as someone who's been trying to be on a diet lately, I will say Senshi's whole thing about eating more veggies and getting exercise is very good advice.
But according to Colonel Senshi, the Basilisk gravy is the most important part. That makes the meal and you have to get it right! Mmm mmm Finger severing good.
13:20 Wonderfull bit of monster ecology here. The Baselisk periodicly leys unfertalized eggs like a chichen, while the eggs themself are long and soft, just like snake eggs
Honestly, ProZD / SungWon Cho's involvement in the anime was my main motivator to watch the anime. And it's been good so far! It does get more serious over time, as well. Not super dark or anything, but there are developments beyond wacky monster-eating shenanigans.
Yeah we're gonna have to wait for season 2 for it to get super dark (but in an existential horror sort of way)
Senshi got dangerously close to making this a PSA Hell a few times.
Spoiler warning: Marcielle finds out she is half elf, half Italian. Chilchuck never existed, Laios was a ghost the entire time... /s
I forgot the next episode was going to be Dungeon Meshi and thought it was going to be Asterix so hearing the next review is going to be Moomins just had me smiling so hard.
I watched this while eating homemade donuts, bacon and coffee. Good morning
I feel like that last post credits joke would have been better if it was the scene from the Death Note anime ("...and eat it!!!"), even if the Gordan Ramsey shot went with the rest of the jokes in the episode
Gollum is a Hobbit. No eat hobbit.
Gollum would probably taste bitter and vaguely like rubbing alcohol
Most of the monsters encountered in Lord of the Rings are demihumans, so that plan wouldn't work. At least by Marcille and Chillchuck's reasonings. Giant spiders, lake monsters, and Fell Beasts yes, orcs, goblins, and Gollum no. Though I do have concerns that the Tolkien monsters might have more toxic remains. Especially the ones I listed as yes.
Balrog..... I don't know. Laios would certainly want to try. Trolls are also a bit of a grey area, but leaning towards no.
Also, hats off to Viga again, the title card is on point.
Balrogs are fallen angels essentially, so probably fall within the demihuman camp. Iirc, there’s some implication that trolls are corrupted Ents in the same manner orcs/goblins are corrupted elves, so would depend on where you place Ents I guess.
@@lordofuzkulak8308 So it's Fell Beasts, the formerly Eldritch Squid, and the spiders... yeah, we're sticking to the elf bread and normal staple proteins like fish and chicken.

1:40 Orcs are very enthusiastic about devouring the flesh of their slain foes and Gollum has an earned reputation for eating the young of any creature he came across while looking for the Ring. Gandalf says as much in the House of Elrond Chapter
"There were rumors of him all over, a ghost who drank blood. It would sneak into nests and holes to find the young. It would sneak into homes to find cradles."
True, though the other queation is wether on not its justefied for humans, elfs and dwarfs to eat Gollum.
Reguardless of Gollums own eating habbits, he is still technicly a hobbit, and by extention technicly a Man, so for me that would put him off the menue, as he's not really a "monster".
Then again, the exact deffenition of "monster" and its seperation from "race" can be a bit fuzzy between different fantasy properties😅
@@viktormadzov5286 Gollum used to be a Hobbit and he is not above eating Orc and other speaking creature in Middle-Earth and I can't imagine the Orcs wouldn't consider eating him after torturing him to death or eating pieces of him as a form of torture. Yeah but those are Orcs. As you explained before, there preaty borderline monsters, or at least demi human by Dungion Meshis's creteria, so for them specificly this philosophical question is mostly irrelevant.
The bigger qurstion is around humans and other "races" (elfs, dwarfs, halflings/half foots), and weather eating Gollum would be considered canibalizm of anothet race or hunting/earing a monster.

17:14 me who has read spoilers: oh... you have no idea. except the monster eating part. at least up to what the anime was shown, it was even a joke that a shapeshifter pretending to be her was shown to be more willing to eat monsters (as a case of "I am ready to do anything to rescue my friend") than the real Marcille.
Apparently that shapeshifter was based on how Laios viewed Marcille (her using forbidden magic to resurrect Falin was fresh in his mind).
Gollum probably wouldn't count as a Monster, (why would you want to, he's nothing but skin & bone)
But SHELOB absolutely would. >=3
I was introduced to it because of you. And I love it, thank you.
One day someone will patron the transformers G1 and MLP Gen 4 crossover. One day
You joke about Freddy haunting Marcel, but there was a recent episode of the anime which involved her and monster induced nightmares…
Eh, it's no Friren: Beyond Journey's End.... but I guess fantasy anime fans are eating well with shows this season without being subjected to the Isekai plague.
I just want a new Slayers anime, already.
The books started up again sometime back, Lina got a spiffy new outfit, her and Gourrey at a legit thing now, Megumi Hayashibara released a Slayers themed album with a new track on it that can serve as an OP.... the time has never been better to adapt the new books. C'mon.
i think the anime actually skips the two adventurers dying at the end there.
You're telling me Laios wouldn't want to eat The Thing?
That would still be a bad idea, though, since the Thing assimilates people on a cellular level.
Laios would be curious for sure though. But the only way to survive is to have Marcille go for the big Aslam. Repeatedly.
Come the end of the anime's run, I hope you get recommended the 2-page bonus comics at the end of each volume. Despite not being adapted into the anime, they are actually canon to it, just little conversations and gags that would have disrupted the flow of the story if included.
They'd make a good Comic Book Quickies.
5:10 WHY ARE YOU BUYING CLOTHES AT THE SOUP STORE????
I do kind of like the headcanon that Laios is actually neurodivergent. It's a bit more explicit with how he doesn't always understand social cues from others, especially later in the manga, where he gets into a heated punching match with a former party member who complains about him not getting his signals, and Laios countering that he should have just told him directly what he meant instead of trying to be subtle about it. But it's also in the way he has a hyperfixation on monsters and other topics. It's honestly some pretty solid autism rep.
I do find it interesting that Japanese fantasy is heavily influenced by Dungeons & Dragons. But while a lot of Japanese fantasy is still based on straight up dungeon crawling, D&D has moved significantly away from that- if the PCs do go into a dungeon it's more plot-related and you don't see large amounts of random creatures arranged mostly by power level.
If we follow your logic, then Golum became a Monster through using black magic (aka the rings use and subsequent corruption). If you are going to eat him, I'm pretty sure that Delicious in Dungeons western Elfs, would like to have a word with you. (To put it mildly)
People ear shark fin soup and magnet cheese
Dungeon Meshi followed by Moomins!? Two of my favorite things!
BTW Marcile being a half elf is a spoiler. This is an important plot point later one.
Think we’ll ever get a Critical Role comic review one day? They have a LOT of supplementary media.
4:08 It says a lot about Laios that the second one is the more likely possibility.
If you ever review "made in abyss" be warned that it will involve children either getting tortured, molested or dying. Sometimes all three

I actually prefer the dub. Especially Laios’s actor.
Also," BREAD BREAD BREAD BREAD!"

Gollum's a Hobbit! Eating him would be like eating a sentient Ghoul from Fallout - pretty much the same as cannibalism. And considering Mordor has a set end date and I could get back to the Shire within a couple weeks I'd definitely ration the Lembas bread and wait for food instead lol.
And just like a Fallout Ghoul, even if you ignore the sentience, that is not something safe or even pleasant to ingest.
They subvert so many tropes too, especially the Living Armor one, which is so creative I'd almost want to try and use such a monster in a campaign
