In this video, we'll be discussing how to prevent nozzle clogs with smart filament sensors. By understanding how the sensor works, you can prevent run-outs and avoid wasted filament or possibly damaging your 3d printer!
If you're experiencing nozzle clogs with your 3D printer, then this video is for you! In it, we'll discuss the different types of filament sensors and how they work. By understanding how the smart filament sensor works, you'll be able to avoid expensive repairs and keep your printer running smoothly!
I've got to get me one of these. I don't have any of these unusual filaments that you mentioned, and haven't dealt with nozzle clogs....what I do have is several old/brittle filaments, that tend to break between the runout sensor and the extruder. Which results in the same thing - no more extrusion, and the nozzle does an elaborate dance in the shape of a print above the last layer it managed to output, for the rest of the print time. I imagine it'd be compatible with mine, considering I've already replaced the screen and mainboard with BTT upgrades as well!
It’s saved me in a pinch. BTT just release v2 of this. The issue I’m having right now is my steppers are shutting off if I don’t tend to the pause causes by this within the time defaulted by Klipper… still trying to figure this one out 😅😅
This is sick! I didn't even though that existed
Yeah it’s a great little device at a fair price point: $18 on Amazon!
Even better than this sensor is a quadrature encoder sensor using two light sources where the movement cannot be simulated because the filament is bouncing back and forward enough to trip the sensor. The motor does the same over and over. The filament moves forward and back only a little bit, but it can be just enough to satisfy the single light sensor in the BigTreeTech.
I love your videos. You crack me up. :)
Dude, thank you!!
The smart sensor is a cool concept, but unfortunately does not work half of the time. It will pause your print all the time and the support from BTT tech is not existing. Filament motion sensor my a**.
