A family outing turned into a nightmare for Andi Hariyanto, who had brought his family to watch their favourite football club at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in the Indonesian province of East Java on October 1, 2022. He lost his wife and two daughters in the football stampede that killed at least 131 people, after police fired tear gas to disperse angry fans of the losing team. He was separated from his family and only managed to hold on to his two-year-old son. Hariyanto later found the bodies of his two teenage daughters among the crowd in the stadium, while his wife succumbed to her injuries in hospital. He has vowed to never watch a football match again.

I can't imagine the feelings, the sheer pain being seperated from your daughters only to find their dead bodies later. Scary enough to loose them among the chaos and then loosing them forever.
Then finding your wife alive, hoping for her to survive only to loose her too later on.
My deepest condolences.

How strong is this man keeping all of his overwhelming emotions inside and giving a proper interview while recollecting those haunting tragic moments
It was at that point where all he felt was numbness.
he is on acceptance stage of grief
no one knows..
at this stage, some people might end their own life after suffering like that..
but this man was much stronger than those who gave up on their lives..
and I think it's because he still has a son to take care of..
"In my dream, everything is still normal, and (what happened) feels like a lie. It's the same thing during an afternoon nap... But whenever I wake up, I realize they are no longer here.." What he said really broke my heart 💔. Imagine after the tragedy happened and every night you sleep, you dreamt of a normal day with your family. Everything you see around you was normal until when you wake up, you come to realise that you were only dreaming of the days that you and your family was still together in a normal day. Wishing that you can stay inside your dreams all your life to bring back your family. He just lost a lot from just a Football game which can't amount to the value of the people he loved. In one single day.. That one day just made the nights he slept through the most pleasant and sad dreams.

Parents have shown some great strength in face of disasters as long as at least one of their children was alive. It won’t be easy, but maybe this sweet father-son duo can make it too, and find peace. -From Indonesia.
The fact violence even occurs is absolutely unacceptable in modern sport. Let alone the deaths of over a hundred people because of one match loss. The Indonesian FA needs an extremely thorough investigation into the safety state of its league and must actively arrest any and all inciting hooligans.
Indonesia as a country was built with the foundation of blood and anger towards the colonials and towards their own governments, in Indonesia they always chanting "NKRI HARGA MATI" which means the republic was paid in blood...so it's some sort of cultural mentality that is a remnant of the colonial era...the only way to resolve this violence mentality is to educate their people to stop looking back and forget about the past and move on, but idk why for Indonesian it's so hard for them to do that compared to other ex colonial countries like their neighbours. As long as they got this mentality this violence and aggression will always happened not only in footballs but in other aspect of their social and even political life, so many violence events happened there since Indonesia got its independence from the Dutch, such as racial riots, religious riots, political riots, economic riots and you can see the culture of solving anything and everything with violence is almost normal to them. You can always see in many youtube comments if some people are criticizing them in any way hundreds of angry and rowdy indonesian that are hungry for blood will come for you. Its the mentality.
Nah the cops are also very poorly trained in crowd control, resulting in the wrong use of tear gas

That's the other tragedy, most will likely not care or be bothered except for the ones who get put in prison. But even then it won't be grief over the deaths but sadness from losing their freedom. Not all but Id wager the majority
I doubt they care. Lol they’ll do it again. It happens in other countries over and over again.
You people in the comments only watch this video and goes, "yes it's all the fans fault!!"
I agree the fans were at fault for coming inside the field BUT Have you guys think why the viewers died? They died because THE POLICE SHOT AT LEAST 11 TEAR GAS SHELLS. ELEVEN.
The stampede started because the viewers' eyes got BURNED and they got panicked and they couldn't breath.
And you know what else those police did? THEY LOCKED THE EXIT
And that's how the victims died, stamped to death.
rewatch the video, it clearly states that the stampede was caused because of the use of tear gas canister, which is forbidden by FIFA btw. no one would be running for their lives stampeding over one and another had police not thrown tear gas. the police were not in a situation where the only way they could control the crowd is with tear gas, they had other options.
if their only option was to use tear gas, then what's the point of having police, if they can't even control a riot without killing hundreds?
