honestly i hope they keep the damage potential uncapped, this looks super cool and i think the risk vs. reward of taking fall damage or landing the hit makes it decently balanced
no (see lengthy explanation below for why) it would be certainly comedic, imagine you're just minding your own business, walking in the plains with full prot 4 netherite armor, and then some random unarmored guy just appears out of the sky at terminal velocity and oneshots you from behind your back HOWEVER from a game design perspective it is nonsensical because the current mace damage calculation is linearly calculated with falling height (3.5 extra damage per block fallen + multiples by crit to 5.25 extra damage PER BLOCK FALLEN, which allows you to oneshot a full prot 4 netherite player at full health from just falling 15 blocks) combine that with an invis potion and you become a virtually undetectable one-hit assassin there's no hard damage cap (unlike the anvil which is hardcapped to 20) or even a standard logarithmic curve to round the damage out, either, even as we approach terminal falling velocity, which means you can oneshot a warden by falling around 100 blocks which, if you need a reminder, is 500 hp. considering mojang's adamant stance on keeping the warden a "natural disaster" that should be avoided instead of fought and killed, this surely goes against that design philosophy and diminishes the Warden's reputation significantly (1.21 update - this is no longer accurate with the pseudo-logarithmic cap mojang introduced) when we combine the mace with leaping 2 and strength 2 + optimal wind charge jump, things get a little crazy. We can consistently achieve around an absurd 130 damage per hit just by jumping off the ground and simultaneously wind charge boosting and then landing a hit on the same prejump elevation. needless to say this amount of damage with relatively minimal setup rivals even crystal pvp which takes considerably more resources to use and much more time to master to even get to the same damage level. these numbers are even more insane pvp wise considering minecraft's armor calculation which makes armor less effective when dealing with high single hit damage The only real risk from falling from a great height and going for the holy grail shot to kill the warden is missing the hit and losing the mace on death. additionally, the potential gains of just falling 15 blocks is to kill and steal everything from a fully maxed out player, if you're lucky and the circumstances favor you - the potential fall damage can easily be offset with feather falling. it is NOT balanced at all. yes it can be countered slightly by timing wind charge boosts to dodge the full effects of the hit. yes you can use a shield. however, these aren't perfect or even reasonable counters against a oneshot weapon that only require your guard to be down for a moment to end your entire life from full health + prot 4 neth. this isn't good game design. 24w13a edit: mojang is still going ham with the mace wtf do they want an unbeatable mace meta? 1.21 edit: mace was, as I predicted, finally nerfed. The damage finally mimics a logarithmic curve like I suggested, and breach and density are now mutually exclusive (breach is better for low-ground consistent damage dealing ~3-5 blocks height and density is strictly better for any fall above) it is still somewhat unbalanced for pvp and likely will undergo several more nerfs in the future depending on how much the playerbase explores the mace pvp skill ceiling though
You can do the same thing with a tnt minecart- they get more damaging with higher speed, including from falling- but without the risk of death. I kinda like it

@@dylanworth8038I genuinely believe the reason we haven't gotten more of the nether update or 1.19 or this is because of Jeb, he just seems to hate the idea of combat but accepts it because it's a part of this game and people would probably actually riot if he removed it all together. I think the fact that most people have already forgotten about 1.20 Is a massive sign that Microsoft might be looking to replace Jeb because at this point he is a massive liability and not doing anything to compensate for how much of a liability he is
the damage calculation is: base_damage * (1 + 0.5 * fall_distance) * critical_hit because of how minecraft crits work, mace will always crit if you do the falling hit so the damage is basically: 7 * (1 + 0.5 * fall_distance) * 1.5 so if we do an example of 10 blocks high fall: 7 * (1 + 0.5 * 10) * 1.5 = 63 damage
For those who don’t remember what the latest weapon we got was: The weapon that was most recent at the time we got was the crossbow and that was around 5 years ago (in 2019) so we have finally gotten a new weapon since 2019
Technically, wind charges are also weapons as you can use them to knock mobs/players into the air and make them receive fall damage. So we are getting 2 new weapons as of now
"The newest weapon in who knows how long." He said, standing right next to a Pillager *holding a crossbow.* Oh this is gonna be a good one, I can FEEL it.
Jump boost is suddenly about to be valued Edit: Sadly it does not work with jump boost (I guess because you don't take fall damage with it), but the extra jump still gives you more damage with a one block fall Edit to edited edition: Someone said it does work with jump boost if done right lol
They should make jump boost upgradable with wind charges, so like you can brew wind charges into a jump boost poiton to make you have like Jump Boost V or some shit.
It actually does work! I was testing that and with jump boost 2 you can manage to activate the mace effect by just jumping but you gotta attack at the very end of the jump so you are really close to the ground. Also, wind charge makes you go higher when using jump boost, I managed to two hit kill an iron golem with jump boost and wind charges starting at the same height of the iron golem.
I think if they added a cap to the damage then terminal velocity would make sense, though it should also apply to fall damage so falling from 10,000 would be he same as 20,000. It only seems fair that we get both or neither.

Minecraft until 1.9: whack each other wildly like kids with sticks Minecraft 1.9 - 1.20.4: whack each other awkwardly slowly, maybe block it with shield Minecraft 1.20.5: I am Thor, you shall Mjolnir!
Actually now that you mention it, I wish we got like an item mass/weight update It makes no sense for sticks to go by the same logic as swords and shields I get the reasoning behind swords since swords irl are actually pretty heavy, but you should be able to spam-click sticks as much as you like since they're lightweight asf
If they don't add a damage cap that prevents it, then that could be a new Purple Achievement. One shot on a full health Warden/Wither/E.Dragon. That goes against their vision for the Warden given it has boss-like HP but no damage bar like the Wither, or Dragon, and they had explicitly stated that it is not there for killing--what with having a drop that's only really useful in mid-low output exp farms. That being said, enough players have made enough content about slaying them to warrant a new achievement surrounding this new weapon. Visually, it looks like there's some slots in the sides of the core. Using that Breeze Rod as a catalyst to form the mace itself seems to be what empowers it. These slots probably mean that the reason you need to fall a far enough distance to increase damage output is because it uses the force of the wind building up like a charge inside the heart of the core, compressing the absorbed Breeze power until the damage output is explosive upon that one-strike discharge. Makes sense to me, and it might just be better than bucket clutching in that you won't lose your water to a slab, or something, too. Also: Shields, man! Use a _shield_ when dealing with rude skelly-bois. 😂

ok hear me out I think it would be awesome if you could store charges in the Mace for example with an enchantment, therefore taking up only a single slot in the hotbar. I see this as being quite helpful, since the players arsenal is getting quite large and hopping from one item slot to another is tricky in quicker situations. Also yes I know the offhand is an option but you would most likely have a shield or a totem in it and its just not worth the switch
You know what, that is actually a pretty good idea unlike some other ideas i've seen like "oh please allow sharpness to the Mace". Should suggest it on the Minecraft Suggestions page.
I could see some crazy farms with the mace like a wither farm where you get pistons to create a wither and then use bubble columns to come slamming down on the wither, or I'm curious if the height can be tricked with an elytra to one-shot shulkers if you can put looting 3 on it. Overall it seems like a really cool weapon, if only they could've added some more uniqueness to crossbows but I digress, good update, cool weapon.
Why would the crossbow need to be more unique. It's already unique. The crossbow is imo the best designed new weapon because it's actually a weapon not just some gimmick or tool.
@@knyt0 That's just not true though. They're fundamentally different weapons. You can't run around with your bow fully drawn. You can do that with a crossbow. And the enchantments aren't worse. Power 5 increases bow dps by 150% whereas Quick Charge 3 increases crossbow dps by 150% by increasing the draw speed. They just do it in different ways. And piercing and multishot can be pretty useful too.
@@knyt0 It's not. They're different weapons with different strengths. Bow has higher damage and has more knockback with punch and can ignite enemies with flame. Crossbow is faster, more versatile since you can prepare your shots in advance, can shoot through shields with piercing, can hit multiple enemies at once with multishot or piercing and is better at applying effect arrows due to shooting faster.

I hope they don't cap the damage, as like you said it's extremely difficult to time a hit from world height. It's not super unbalanced to have a weapon that can one hit any enemy, but if you miss, you're one hit.
@@Run2Seeun not really. It's even easier then landing a water bucket from VERY high. (At least from my experience). But smaller hitboxes are the real issue. Like dont expect to hit a Baby zombie/silverfish type of ennemy from very high
I wonder how the mace would work in combination with an Elytra. (By the way, you can easily one-shot a witch with a Power V bow if you shoot the bow while gliding.)
I'm just excited to see the unique enchantments it gets. Can we give it trident enchantments so that we can be thor? Are we gonna get an easier way to spawn lighting to get mob heads? A way to use it to not need a target in order to negate fall damage. A way to use it to launch us up LIKE a breeze ball? The possibilities with this thing are endless. When you realize that, you realize. . . you are gonna want more than one of these things for the different enchant combos.
1.21 is an amazing update genuinely, i think it just adds more of everything people like about minecraft, or at least the otherside. A lot of updates since the nether update have been more focused on people who enjoy building and scenery, which is a big part of the game but the people who are really interested in combat have been left out. This update adds ALOT of new interesting dungeons and combat while still leaving in still for people who like the cute stuff in the game with the new dogs (even if we are getting those early)
I want them to make minecraft's combat like BOTW/TOTK. As in i want to do better in combat by synergizing different items together for stronger attacks. I'd much rather they add cool new weapons the mix in with other items that adding something like new enchants.
@Cioculatorthose people would be the type who are not builders, not redstoners and not command users/map makers. They'll just say "one block for lazy farming, 2 sets of wierd looking blocks is meh, and the command stuff doesn't matter, so the update is trash. Now that it has a weapon, finally it's good. "
I didn’t really care about the update but now with the wind charges and this Hammer(Mace) I don’t think the update is bad. Unique loot is always better than adding new ways to get old stuff that was already easy to get. Also I think they should allow the Hammer(Mace) to be enchanted with Channeling. I want to be the god of Thunder. Edit: i was wrong very wrong. we been seeing so much no content for so long I forgot the crafter was in 1.21 and not already in the game.
I'd love to see the mace get some tool features too. Like a hammer in modded. AOE mining (3x3 default but increasing with a new enchant) or smash cobble to gravel, gravel to sand, sand to concrete powder.
What if Mojang added a breeze/blaze like entity for the end called the Frost? The end, according to game files is decidedly cold, so it would make sense. It could also make for a great addition to an end update, which is probably the most requested update.
It makes sense that the end is cold, but it would be unsettling for it to be warm or hot, because that would imply that there's something out there keeping it that way.
(I am a mathematician not a physician, but I think I still remember high school Physic subject few years ago 😅) based on law of conservation energy, the energy before is the same with the energy after (assume NO OUTSIDE FORCE influence) on classical physic, Energy state 1 = Energy state 2 Potential Energy 1 + Kinetic Energy 1 = Potential Energy 2 + Kinetic Energy 2 Potential Energy is the energy that stored in a object, based the position (or other aspect) relative to the other object. Potential Energy in classical newton is (= m * g * h) where m is object mass g is gravity that affecting the object and h is the height of the object for example, imagine this: a bowling ball with no height has no Potential Energy, a bowling of 3 meters falling height has more than only 1 meter falling height, a bowling ball has more than a tennis ball with the same falling height... Kinetic Energy is the energy of the object has because of its motion and the formula usually is (= ½ * m * v²) where m is the object mass and v is the object velocity (the more mass and faster it gets, the more energy it gonna deal when colliding with others) so when you are carrying the bowling ball at 10 meters height, it currently has no Kinetic Energy yet (since it has no speed yet), but it has potentially stored alottt of energy on the potential energy. and you then drop the bowling ball into the Zoglin, as the bowling fall and gain more speed, its Potential Energy is turning into Kinetics Energy, and when the bowling ball arrived (at height of zero relative to Zoglin), it has used all its Potential Energy and turned into Kinetic Energy, and will inflict a massive blow into the Zoglin. the real life is more or less same, except there may be outside force (like air resistance and terminal velocity) (the presence of air resistance will cause terminal velocity to exist, so no matter how much high you fall, you will eventuallly reach a maximum speed of a terminal velocity. so... if you launch a bowling ball from throposhere, it gonna do more or less same effect when you drop the ballz from 600m height skycrappers.)
would be crazy if breeze rods could also be used for brewing stands (the craft) and making breeze powder for brewing as well, whereas you need thick potions rather than akward ones
Unpopular opinion: Changing the use of Rockets on Elytras to be Wind Charges instead. It would make Elytras more thematic and balanced considering it might be tougher to get Wind Charges instead of rockets. Plus it would reduce the need to hold EVEN MORE items in your inventory.
Finally a good idea! I always thought it was stupid how they made elytras into what are essentially just wings, as opposed to gliders. If the item that allows you to fly is harder to get, maybe late game minecraft wont be filled to the brim with flying godlike entities.
after doing a bit of math the Mace does 10 damge base with a crit and 7 full charge and no crit, and i caculated roughtly that every 2 blocks + falls does 5 damage per block. 1: step one he did on 2 blocks + a jump so 3 block the mace does 15 damge, Zoglin has 40 hearts so minus 15 it will still take another 3 crits to kill it at four in total 2: he starts froma 3 block high + jump effectivly making it a 4 block jump Mace deals 20 damage to the Zoglins 40 so it only takes another 2 crits at 3 hits in total. 3: 6 block fall 30 damage, 1 extra crit to kill, 2 hits in total 4: 8 block 40 damage 1 shot KO the basic formula i created with this is basically Damage Formula: fall damage boost only 5(x) - 5 let X repersent the number of blocks feel. 1 block fall still count as regular crits so they dont get the damage boost. only 2+ block falls Blocks Formula: Useful for caculation blocks it would take to kill a mob (x/5) + 1 Let X Repersent the mob health after division you add 1 block back to make up for the 1 block fall not boosting damage hope you enjoyed this nerd session.

HOWEVER from a game design perspective it is nonsensical because the current mace damage calculation is linearly calculated with falling height (3.5 extra damage per block fallen + multiples by crit to 5.25 extra damage PER BLOCK FALLEN, which allows you to oneshot a full prot 4 netherite player at full health from just falling 15 blocks)
combine that with an invis potion and you become a virtually undetectable one-hit assassin
there's no hard damage cap (unlike the anvil which is hardcapped to 20) or even a standard logarithmic curve to round the damage out, either, even as we approach terminal falling velocity, which means you can oneshot a warden by falling around 100 blocks which, if you need a reminder, is 500 hp. considering mojang's adamant stance on keeping the warden a "natural disaster" that should be avoided instead of fought and killed, this surely goes against that design philosophy and diminishes the Warden's reputation significantly (1.21 update - this is no longer accurate with the pseudo-logarithmic cap mojang introduced)
when we combine the mace with leaping 2 and strength 2 + optimal wind charge jump, things get a little crazy. We can consistently achieve around an absurd 130 damage per hit just by jumping off the ground and simultaneously wind charge boosting and then landing a hit on the same prejump elevation. needless to say this amount of damage with relatively minimal setup rivals even crystal pvp which takes considerably more resources to use and much more time to master to even get to the same damage level.
these numbers are even more insane pvp wise considering minecraft's armor calculation which makes armor less effective when dealing with high single hit damage
The only real risk from falling from a great height and going for the holy grail shot to kill the warden is missing the hit and losing the mace on death.
additionally, the potential gains of just falling 15 blocks is to kill and steal everything from a fully maxed out player, if you're lucky and the circumstances favor you - the potential fall damage can easily be offset with feather falling. it is NOT balanced at all.
yes it can be countered slightly by timing wind charge boosts to dodge the full effects of the hit. yes you can use a shield. however, these aren't perfect or even reasonable counters against a oneshot weapon that only require your guard to be down for a moment to end your entire life from full health + prot 4 neth. this isn't good game design.
24w13a edit:
mojang is still going ham with the mace wtf do they want an unbeatable mace meta?
1.21 edit:
mace was, as I predicted, finally nerfed. The damage finally mimics a logarithmic curve like I suggested, and breach and density are now mutually exclusive (breach is better for low-ground consistent damage dealing ~3-5 blocks height and density is strictly better for any fall above)
it is still somewhat unbalanced for pvp and likely will undergo several more nerfs in the future depending on how much the playerbase explores the mace pvp skill ceiling though
@@Legendarial That's Thor for ya. Yeah it's gonna be a new tactic, and why not? Players will have to play smarter!
You can do the same thing with a tnt minecart- they get more damaging with higher speed, including from falling- but without the risk of death. I kinda like it
Yes this is going to lead to a bunch of badass PvP moments, but also a lot of funny fails when people miss the hit and just go splat next to someone
Honestly, this makes me very happy. Minecraft needs more items that are gotten through exploration and battling that actually drastically change the way you play the game. Its one of the reasons i love the trident with riptide.

@@dylanworth8038I genuinely believe the reason we haven't gotten more of the nether update or 1.19 or this is because of Jeb, he just seems to hate the idea of combat but accepts it because it's a part of this game and people would probably actually riot if he removed it all together. I think the fact that most people have already forgotten about 1.20 Is a massive sign that Microsoft might be looking to replace Jeb because at this point he is a massive liability and not doing anything to compensate for how much of a liability he is
the damage calculation is:
base_damage * (1 + 0.5 * fall_distance) * critical_hit
because of how minecraft crits work, mace will always crit if you do the falling hit
so the damage is basically:
7 * (1 + 0.5 * fall_distance) * 1.5
so if we do an example of 10 blocks high fall:
7 * (1 + 0.5 * 10) * 1.5 = 63 damage
crits do 300% dmg according to tf2 and mojang added tf2 so minecraft is tf2
no chance this is the proper calculation

Jump boost is suddenly about to be valued
Edit: Sadly it does not work with jump boost (I guess because you don't take fall damage with it), but the extra jump still gives you more damage with a one block fall
Edit to edited edition: Someone said it does work with jump boost if done right lol
They should make jump boost upgradable with wind charges, so like you can brew wind charges into a jump boost poiton to make you have like Jump Boost V or some shit.
Actually considering wind charges could do more for you on their own, maybe Jump Boost X, but it only lasts for like 10 seconds.
Finaly it has some value in survival. But it's still a bit annoying to move with Jump boost on your world.
Literally... TF2 Soldier or Demoman.

0:09 Correction: That WAS a Warden at full health.
This is gonna make Battle Box in MCC crazy. Imagine someone jumping down on the wool placers from above with a mace.

I think it would be awesome if you could store charges in the Mace for example with an enchantment, therefore taking up only a single slot in the hotbar.

@@Eo-ms3kw because it's just a bow with worse enchants
@@knyt0 That's just not true though. They're fundamentally different weapons. You can't run around with your bow fully drawn. You can do that with a crossbow. And the enchantments aren't worse. And piercing and multishot can be pretty useful too.
@@Eo-ms3kw it's a worse bow
@@knyt0 It's not. They're different weapons with different strengths. Bow has higher damage and has more knockback with punch and can ignite enemies with flame.

(I am a mathematician not a physician, but I think I still remember high school Physic subject few years ago 😅)
based on law of conservation energy, the energy before is the same with the energy after
(assume NO OUTSIDE FORCE influence)
on classical physic,
Energy state 1 = Energy state 2
Potential Energy 1 + Kinetic Energy 1 = Potential Energy 2 + Kinetic Energy 2
Potential Energy is the energy that stored in a object, based the position (or other aspect) relative to the other object.
Potential Energy in classical newton is (= m * g * h)
where m is object mass
g is gravity that affecting the object
and h is the height of the object
for example, imagine this:
a bowling ball with no height has no Potential Energy,
a bowling of 3 meters falling height has more than only 1 meter falling height,
a bowling ball has more than a tennis ball with the same falling height...
Kinetic Energy is the energy of the object has because of its motion
and the formula usually is (= ½ * m * v²)
where m is the object mass
and v is the object velocity
(the more mass and faster it gets, the more energy it gonna deal when colliding with others)
so when you are carrying the bowling ball at 10 meters height,
it currently has no Kinetic Energy yet (since it has no speed yet), but it has potentially stored alottt of energy on the potential energy.
and
you then drop the bowling ball into the Zoglin,
as the bowling fall and gain more speed, its Potential Energy is turning into Kinetics Energy, and when the bowling ball arrived (at height of zero relative to Zoglin), it has used all its Potential Energy and turned into Kinetic Energy, and will inflict a massive blow into the Zoglin.
the real life is more or less same, except there may be outside force (like air resistance and terminal velocity)
(the presence of air resistance will cause terminal velocity to exist, so no matter how much high you fall, you will eventuallly reach a maximum speed of a terminal velocity.
so... if you launch a bowling ball from throposhere, it gonna do more or less same effect when you drop the ballz from 600m height skycrappers.)
Still waiting for jebs combat snapshot
The damage is based off of downward velocity. It does work with elytra, but it wont cancel elytra velocity damage when hitting the ground.
I can’t believe I guessed that the breezes would drop that in a live stream that I watched of the first week of 1.21
would be crazy if breeze rods could also be used for brewing stands (the craft) and making breeze powder for brewing as well, whereas you need thick potions rather than akward ones
Does this mean they'll finally implement the combat snapshots soon?
Let's hope so, do you have some additions you'd like to put in those combat snapshots if they were updated?

1: step one he did on 2 blocks + a jump so 3 block the mace does 15 damge, Zoglin has 40 hearts so minus 15 it will still take another 3 crits to kill it at four in total
2: he starts froma 3 block high + jump effectivly making it a 4 block jump Mace deals 20 damage to the Zoglins 40 so it only takes another 2 crits at 3 hits in total.
3: 6 block fall 30 damage, 1 extra crit to kill, 2 hits in total
4: 8 block 40 damage 1 shot KO
the basic formula i created with this is basically
Damage Formula: fall damage boost only
5(x) - 5
let X repersent the number of blocks feel.
1 block fall still count as regular crits so they dont get the damage boost. only 2+ block falls
Blocks Formula: Useful for caculation blocks it would take to kill a mob
(x/5) + 1
Let X Repersent the mob health
after division you add 1 block back to make up for the 1 block fall not boosting damage
