First up, let me get my ego out of the way. It's gotta happen because I'm IN this film and towards the end, that's my gorgeous art deco theatre location and me sitting behind Stowe and Willis in the theatre that in the film is in Philly. I love this assessment of the film's connection to La jetee, which we showed to the crew when they we on location at The Senator.
I hate to say this, but I so much prefer the original La Jetee over the Twelve Monkeys movie OR TV series. This was just so straightforward, and it's just long enough to make its point. Plus, it's just such an incredible experience. This was classy; the movie was action adventure stretched too long, and I just could not get into it.
By "ending makes more sense", I mean this: the protagonist chose to go back into the past where he knew a nuclear war would soon kill them (protagonist and his lady friend) when he could have had the travelers from the future to take them both to the future where they would live in peace and safety.
@@voxtemporis4503 you just explained the exact reason i think la jetee is the better film. A man blinded by the intense want to go back into his childhood and relive a moment is so overtaken by the need that he couldn’t put two and two together that the death he had originally scene was his own. In my eyes subconsciously he knew and had that knowledge but made the conscious choice to go back, he needed it regardless of the consequences. That is much better to me. And its not really right to compare a 2 hour plot to a 20 min plot. 12 monkeys takes the ideas and makes it its own, obviously your gonna get more wrapped up in a 2 hour plot. I would call la jetee a more perfect film (less room to mess things up with only 20 min)
For me, La Jetee is the second greatest film of all time, after The Third Man. 12 Monkeys is in no way a masterpiece like La Jetee is. It's not a terrible film, but it is not even close.

Black and white photograph also create a documentary effect in the viewer, giving more realistic validation to the audience.

12 monkeys is entertaining and fun. LaJetee is a masterpiece ,Its a work of great art!
Are you implying that a masterpiece can't be entertaining and fun?

They made a tv series? FFS. Of course they did.
A copy is never better than the original, but the script is wise, the cast have a unique charm and there's that crazy colorful universe of Gilliam.
"12 Monkeys" is by far the better film. The time travel is more reasonable and the ending makes more sense.

@@Dandydust397 very well stated. La Jetee is so moving and authentic compared to 12 monkeys
Could not disagree more.
Missing the point of the original then
