- For more than 50 years he has been conjuring up strange and fantastical worlds. From the very beginning of his work with Monty Python, he has rarely played by the rules and has shunned the Hollywood system, yet serious actors like Sean Connery, Robin Williams and Johnny Depp queue up to work with him. Terry Gilliam sits down with Eve Jackson at the Lumière film festival in Lyon to talk about the re-release of his 1995 sci-fi thriller "12 Monkeys" with Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis.

I really hope he is able to make another film. He is absolutely brilliant.
One of the best and one of my favorite directors of all time. I would’ve loved to have had the opportunity to sit at the right hand of this master after film school. Still do. All of his films are my favorites but I have to say the Grand Central Station ballroom scene in The Fisher King never loses its magic. I’m getting a lump in my throat just thinking about it. Fisher King, Brazil, 12 Monkeys…my 3 favorites. I have probably seen 12 Monkeys more than anyone else alive. I could gush on for days but I’ll stop now.
Thank you sir!
I've loved watching every Terry Gilliam interview I could find, either recent or from years ago. He's just so entertaining to listen to.
💯I've gone down a Gilliam rabbit hole now and its a great. And i've done this with like every other great director but Terry's interviews are special.
I am always for a movie that is unapologetically weird. Gilliam will always be one of my favorites and i love his enthusiasm and vision and understanding. He is a rare human being.
Oh how I loved his run of movies. A special love for Adventures of Baron but what a roster. Brilliant team of creators , great vision, thought and execution of his voice. I will never miss a Terry Gilliam helmed film.
Over the last 6 months I’ve really started getting into Monty Python and because of that I got introduced to Terry Gillian’s filmography. I haven’t watched all of his films but out of the ones I have watched Baron Munchausen would be my favorite film he solely directed.
@@cooperwolfe5478 Man after my own heart.
Time Bandits….all the python movies and 12 Monkeys. Brazil if you like it weirder.
@@GIBKEL I actually really love Brazil as well. This would be my personal ranking of his films out of the 9 that I’ve seen:
1. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
2. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
3. Brazil
4. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
5. The Fisher King
6. The Man Who Killed Don Quixote
7. 12 Monkeys
8. Time Bandits
9. The Brothers Grimm
@@cooperwolfe5478 I agree on the first and last but I was of an age when Time Bandits came out and it had James Bond, my “what is is to be a cool dude” as a little boy. Nostalgia is a potent synapse.
Fear and Loathing actually conveyed what a bad acid trip can be like. That’s powerful. So many great films, so much funny, so much heart, so much strange and fanciful. He is little appreciated and held in the esteem he deserves.
absolute inspiration
Ha! I had no idea he was American, thought he was British through and through.
Great interview, he's definitely made many extremely memorable, off the way movies, especially dystopic epics like Brazil and 12 Monkeys.
Terry gilliam is an amazing genius
Make that movie Terry! Love the concept.
One of the last great, visionary directors. I sincerely hope that he gets to make his next movie.
The autobiographical book Gilliamesque is interesting, if you're a fan of python etc.
Terry Gilliam is an incredible artistic filmmaker, which I hold up alongside the true greats like David Lynch and Stanley Kubrick. The wonderfully surreal at times 80s classic Brazil alone is one of the greatest movies ever made :-)
Ugh!! No mention of the Fisher King! How could that be left off the list?? Such a great movie.
He said Once upon a time in America.. I love Terry 😍
He has been making movies about a fallen corrupt world since the beginning of his career. He likes to offend and show the dark side of humanity.
An amazing director
Great man. His animations nearly killed me with laughing fits.
Terry understand we live in an absurd world and can't help but poke fun at it
What a fun life he has led! Did things his way!
Terry geliam is a genius
what a guy, what a line. "death is more interesting , ha!" he seems enlightened truly. THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR PARNASSUS is one of the greatest films made and one of my all time faves. Blessings to a true artiste.
visionary
Absolutely love Baron Munchausen. Lots of great memories introducing my kids to the movie.
Gilliam would love Lanthamos and Poor Things
He’d also get a kick out of Eggers and Aster.
@@baxatakbaxatak2014 what's Aster up to nowadays? Is the feeling he didn't live up to the potential of Hereditary?
a "True Artist"
Terry Gilliam is my absolute favored director of all time. I hope he is able to film all his projects. My favorite films of him will always be "Brazil" and "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas". But I have to admit that his newest works are not that good, at least for me. "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" and "The Zero Theorem" were, for me, dissapointing. I found the first CGI overloaded and the later a little bit boring, tbh. The result of this was that I skipped, for the first time, a Terry Gilliam movie, that was "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote". I still have no interest in seeing it.
terry, jesus was right...may he find you worthy. i always think, God most high does weird amazingly, miraculously. but he dont like evil. your work is admirable. a humorist inspiration!
"I know nothing"
I come Cardiff,and pigeon toed,so I walk funny hih!!😅
Terry G - G for genius
Nobody ever asks why he doesn't make films anymore. Brazil is genius, 12 Monkey's brilliant, Time Bandits Brilliant, etc...why stop...?
MLK’s speech in Washington was 60 years ago when this video was made.
Do you know how lucky you have to be to live in France?
