    I agree Martin I love working on mowers. Especially antique and vintage mowers. I think they’re a part of history and it’s a shame that people can just throw them away because they need to be rebuilt and they don’t think that the cost is feasible I love restoring and rebuilding them it’s just a labor of love and even if I don’t make a ton of profit off them and I break even that still knowing that in my mind I have saved something that could be saved from going to the crusher and it lives on to mow again

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  4 роки тому

      retrorestore your welcome And I definitely agree it can also be a really good hobby and I like the way that you restore them including the cosmetics. I try to restore every Push mower and garden tractor I get Fully cosmetically and mechanically but I will admit there are have been a few and I have one now that might not get a full cosmetic redo it’s a garden tractor that I’m working on but I try my best to restore them to expert spec most of the time within budget.

    Tip for black plastic. Using things like pledge etc gives very short lived effect so it is good for the day you sell it but no good for the new owner. If you want to revive faded black plastics (only works on black, soft plastics) use heat gun and "re-melt" the surface. It looks factory line new and stays that way for another decade. Some other plastics, like hard say red cutting level handles or handle bar screws do not react with heat other than burning to a crisp lol. Use WD-40 as it is "absorbed by the plastic (doesn't leave a greasy layer on top only) and returns the colour, say 90% to plastics which otherwise wee almost white. BTW, your paint job normally would cost more than the mower ;).

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  3 роки тому

      I know all those Pete, I've heard restorers say that the heat gun plastic thing doesn't last as well.

    Hi Martin mower looks great, but a bit off subject but I would like to ask you about the powder coating, I have seen you use the chrome effect powder with colours which gives a great effect, what I would like to ask is, have you used the chrome on its own?, if so how effective does it look? if classic car bumpers etc were powder coated would they look effective? like the original chrome? cheers mate, appreciate you vids.
