I really liked the sleek design more than the cinnamon waffle, because it really keeps the bullets out. Just throw some paint and greebles on if you absolutely have to,. If you try some of the newly added shapes, you can make it so there aren't so many busy edges.
You make a good point. I'm gonna make a sexy brick. It's decided. One idea: a perfect rectangular shape, with one face entirely made up of grinders, but in front of it, ude rather fragile bumpers and a layer of light armor on the very front, use it as a taming vessel, and when contact is made, the false front will break but leave the grinders intact beneath, allowing it eat a square shaped whole straight through the ship. I'd probably add some reverse thrust tho help slow you down a little when closing in. A full speed ram would probably be too much damage
Hey man, so I ran some testing and apparently the best way to do armour on the miner is having it not touching directly the thrusters and other internal fragile components, because I made a miner with armour covering directly trusters and stuff but still if I hit a tunnel wall a bit I was damaging the armour but also the other stuff that this armour was touching, like a damage propagation mechanics...
yea your not wrong, damage does travel through blocks. the best way i have found to mitigate this is to use offset amour panels, that way they don't connect to the components whilst also not being very bulky. the only downside is is basically required to use heavy amour
@@Waldherz mining in a safe environment is not an option, who knows the dangers that lurks around you when u r shredding that sweet sweet ore, from oportunistic pirates to aliens to environmental hazards, otherwise we wouldnt even need to design armor in the first place, but if we are going to make it armor at least do a good job. mostly angles and shapes are why i cover things up or make actuall frames to plan out shape better.. looks bricky at fisr but it takes form eventually.. APCs for example have a vustom cab thats sealed. kinda cant be made of componant blocks with bits if armor like that besides ive figgured out pin points to put it in flat so i use blast door for armor now. beavy but tough.. and no cobalt for metalgrid so its cheap XD
I tend to avoid blocks, or half blocks unless i absolutely need to. I'll just use armor panels since they're thinner(with a degree of risk for internal components). I also think i'll make my old miner a block taller so i can fit a larger crate. It's a carrier based one so i don't think i'll have issues.
not the best option. you have little traction in the diagonal plane forward and down. when you dig mines and get a lot of weight from the load, it will be difficult to hang in a diagonal plane.
Form determines efficiency so having a brick (unless its thicc af) might be disadvantageous or even useless, for example, The.... the cock n balls design is already great for space ships, and having a kind of reverse wedge on miners lets you have multiple drills (or reverse thrust, lights, etc.). So I personally love having pretty ships (and cool shapes) not just for looks. Not gonna hammer this into you, but think about it if you wanna. BUT, that balance is dead crucial, therefore I agree with function over looks once in a while, but I avoid such off-balances and make it pretty and functional. this is quite a chunk of text...

@@hunnybunnysheavymetalmusic6542unlike tanks you can basically always face your opponent without real loss to mobility. I think the armor should mostly be forward facing and the ship should be more narrow than a cube.

This man treats ship building tutorials like bob ross painting tutorials and I dig it.

a brick-looking, well-protected ship is better than a good-looking ship with low protection or exposed parts
I disagree lol
Exposed parts dont really matter on a miner anyways.
If your miner gets shot at, you made a mistake.

Lets just say that your spacebattles are... Short. 😂
Is this ship in the steam page?
it is not I'm afraid, its my ship it looks good but its not finished still needs some work
does that armor is functional or just aesthetic?
Yea function to protect main components from basing into stuff but probably wouldn’t protect against gunfire

The miner can actually carry its self, the two large cargos of ore and the drills full no issue
But... I like da brick 😥
Bricks are good
Yea, you can’t go wrong with a good old brick
Looking 'interesting' is pointless to me.
I would rather make a brick.
Strength over looks.
Function over form.
Yeah I try to find a balance, so I’ll make sacrifices in form sometimes for function
