Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

It was done for dramatic effect but was so completely unrealistic in a real court lol. Prosecutor would have to specify first to the court the exhibit number. Also Saul appealing to the jury saying “they are better than that” when the jury is literally there to apply the law based on the facts and not to let their personal emotions decide whether the kids were guilty or not…

Remember that Chuck only ever saw Jimmy as his worse traits, the grifter, the liar, the conman. I don't think Chuck ever saw Jimmy as being incompetent in law, but rather he knew that Jimmy would be capable... and it SCARED him because he could only ever picture him pulling his cons and grifts with something as serious as legal procedure, not only making a mockery of the law but also endangering others, which given what actually ended up happening was not a totally unfair assessment, although you COULD also state that the fact he was never ever truly given a chance drove him to relapse and go back to his Slippin' Jimmy tendencies... which eventually turned out for the worst when all that was really left was Saul Goodman. In a way, Saul's crimes are both a consequence of Jimmy forgoing the opportunities he had to make it on the straight and narrow... and also of others pushing him to go that way, note how being honest about him basically not caring about Chuck after he died (at least as far as he was willing to admit to himself) did not help him in getting his license back out of perceived "dishonesty," but LYING and CONNING them into believing he DID actually moved them with his "honesty" and got him his license back, so he'd obviously feel vindicated and all the more encouraged. It wasn't just Chuck, it wasn't just Jimmy, it wasn't just "the world and the system" but a curious and interesting combination of those three that gave way to the tragedy that would beget Saul Goo- I mean "Gene."

He focuses solely on the immediate consequence (nobody got hurt) rather than the moral actions of it, and then tries to bring in other pieces of information to rationalize his arguments (them being honor students and allat). It really shows Jimmy's mindset really good and how he applies it to his work.
It's also surprising but it actually shows the idea of change that BCS is centered about. He claims that they'll never do it again and that they'll change from this, which is a nice little parallel to his own struggles to change.
These things are what allows Jimmy to commit immoral acts without a care in the world because he's able to keep downplaying his actions using only the immediate consequences to tell himself that he's not actually a bad person, until he can't do that any longer

I love how they picked such an interesting scenario to start with. Really lures the viewer into questioning what kind of serious punishment could be inflicted by justice for this kind of act. Lots of wild conceptions, obviously it has to be taken into consideration that the person is already dead but the fact that this act is being done on another human could cause the jury to feel as if the person were alive, which in this case would probably result in either life or the death sentence. Crazy.
