Surely my favorite song from them. 8 years after the first time i've listened it, the chorus still haunts me to this day
(Crack the skye is their best album imo)
Same here. You know the song is timeless when you still get goosebumps. What's your second favourite album if you had to choose one?
@@LieLikesMusic remission or bloodmountain, too hard to chose haha
This song and album really hooked me. This still might be my favorite Mastodon song. But ya Leviathan and Crack the Skye are my favorite of their albums too
Ey a fellow Primus fan! Cool. What are your thoughts on Blood Mountain and Remission?
I prefer Crack the Skye, but that and Leviathan are both 10/10's. Remission is a 9, Blood Mountain also a 9. What an amazing run of albums. I love their new direction too, but those first 4 albums are legendary.
Profile picture. If you know you know.
Definitely agree with you here. I would rate Blood Mountain 10/10 as well though. It was my favourite album by them at some point as well. With all these great albums it's hard not to get excited for new stuff.
@@Plohph1 I love Loathe :)
The Last Baron gives me chills every single time.
Same for me. Every time!
100% agreed.
I was just watching your other mastodon video and this pops up in my recommendations. What a neat coincidence
And Blood Mountain is their best to date, but Crack The Skye is another masterpiece
@@snoboater I used to think BM was their best too for some time. The first 4 albums are timeless and hard to distinguish in terms of quality imo. Thanks for watching both of the videos btw!
Crack the skye helped me get through tough times in my life. Every year I get to see mastodon and for that I’m grateful. Thank you for this video!
No problem man. Thanks for watching.
I love this band, this album is easily my favorite one so far. Good to see people still showin it some love. The new one dropped today, looking forward to listening to it after work!
Very nice analysis, keep it up
Long time pattreon love the channel
MORE MASTODON
Just saying,I havent been getting notifications...I'm subscribed and the right bell was clicked but.. anyway..good shit.
Dritbra video!
For the chorus I think it’s actually autobiographical of Brent Hinds.
He just recovered from a massive brain trauma that he was in a coma for.
“Falling from grace because I’ve been away too long”. Brent waking up from his injury and having to start from square one.
“Leaving you behind with my lonesome song”. The possibility he could have died from his injury and all you would remember him by would be all his songs up to Blood mountain. Brent at that point was a brutal alcoholic with depressive tendencies.
“Now I’m lost in Oblivion”.
Maybe he himself reflecting on this fact and having a deeper sadness of lost time and regrets
Golden sun poster is rad!
I was going to subscribe.... Until I saw the dust between the pickups. How dare you sir!? Lol jk man, excellent video!! I've seen your content tons of times but never knew about this deep dive on my favorite band! 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Morestdon, please!
Alrightstodon xD
Hell yeah
CRACK THE SKYE!!
Spiraling up through the crack in the skyyyyyyyyye...
Ok mastodon is just epic
Oh man, I love Blood Mountain and The Hunter too. 4 great albums
Eeexcelleeent. Definitely my two top favs. Then I have to say I probably even prefer "once more..." over "crack"
Mastadon is a band similar to Tool where you can't pick a wrong favorite album. Mine is one of the less popular but I find "Once More Round the Sun" to have the most solid catalog of songs. It's just constant bangers throughout the whole album and I really feel the band is at their best on that album.
Nice. I've still got to give their newer albums more listens. Especially Emperor of Sand. OMRTS is lower on my list. But it's not bad at all.
Blood mountain is so underrated and is their best album. I will die on this hill
not just saying this because Crack the Skye is one of my favorite records of all time; i really fucking enjoyed this format.
Cool :) There's more to come very soon.
I started listening to Mastodon when I was 14
The first album I heard from them was Leviathan and it's one of my favorite albums of all time
Leviathan and Crack Skye both 10s for me, next closest being once more round the sun for me
Crack the skye is still their masterpiece. Such a great complete prog record. It’s so dense with killer riffs, weird chord progressions, and really unique creative guitar playing. It could only be written by Brent hinds. He’s my favorite part of mastodon just because he’s so unique. He writes crazy stuff that is really hard to wrap your head around yet it still has an accessibility that makes it digestible to someone whose not familiar with what’s going on musically. I love everything mastodon does but those 4 first records are truly something special. It redefined American metal when they came out and set a new benchmark for what Amrit made metal can achieve when musicians step outside the box and explore. Now they’re too interested in being a more commercial pop band with simpler songs structures and generally way more accessibility. At least those first 4 records though are really great though.
I went to see Mastadon and Dethclock when Mastadon released Crack the Skye at the Old Lady at Brady. Mastadon played the album from beginning to end and had a video through the whole album. The video goes along with some young person who is physically disabled who can separate his soul from his body and travels through the solar system while connected to his body through a golden cord. Some disturbance (a crazed, bad person who end up being Satan in the concert video) breaks the cord, and the soul goes through time and ends up encountering Rasputin in early 1900's. The soul tries to warn Rasputin of his future while trying to find his way back home. Rasputin tries to return the soul, but there are many assassination attempts on his life until one finally succeeds. Crack the Skye was the climax song/part of the story where you find out the disturbance was Satan all along.
Blood Mountain. Unquestionably my favourite
It was my favourite too for a long time! Al, the songs are fantastic. Pendolous Skin gives me pendulous skin every time... or do I mean goosebumps?
Please review one of the Dredg albums. The guitar parts are amazing.
I love blood mountain the most
i personally think an episode on deathconciousness would be very interesting
Nice TMV shirt.
Thank you. I made a video on The Mars Volta too some time ago. Feel free to check it out ua-cam.com/video/S3y3IXgrvzM/v-deo.html
I enjoy Leviathan, but Crack the Skye is definitely my favorite.
Im very interested to hear the project Brent Hines is planning with Matt Pike from Sleep and High On Fire
I’m seeing a distinct lack of cold dark place respect, that EP is crazy and like nothing else they’ve made in a very good way, although crack the skye is my fav
EP's never get respect. I agree. I really enjoy it. Toe to toe is great
Crack the Skye. The story is too cool.
Remission is my #1 actually, but you could convince me Crack the Skye is their best
Hehe, well Leviathan and Blood Mountain are very high up there too though. Might make videos on them and/or Remission at some point.
Met Brent Hinds outside of a studio lol
great tone, what irs are you using?
Thanks. I'm using Logic Pro with Neural DSPs Fortin plugin.
@@LieLikesMusic thanks man thats ml sound lab irs.
