After my wife died i played this all the time. I was a bit lost and was playing all their songs. Still like the music but brings back weird feelings. Still love the music though.
Ahh, Sarah, IF I'd had your number mid-nineties, I'd have dialled your number. Thank you for all the beautiful music that kept me going when I was in a bad way.
Beautiful and stunning woman. Very classy band with a nod to the 1960s in style and music. Haven't met anyone yet who dislikes this track. A timeless classic that I'll never get tired of listening too. THANK YOU!
Totally agree with you Peter Howard. They are an amazing band. One of my two favourites. And in total agreement about Sarah - she is so wonderful. Actually she is tear jearkingly lovely. I love every song they did - especially Hobart Paving, Madelaine and Pale Movie. So glad to know that there are other Etienne lovers out there. Viva Cracknell.
You nailed it - was trying to think what old tune the keyboard riff reminded me of. At first I thought it was the title music to Marineboy, who chewed oxy gum to stay underwater !🤔
Delightful record about all of the small everyday hassles that beset all of us. Superb musicianship from a hugely underrated group. Brings back happy memories of North London in the nineties.
Reminds me of a trip to Skegness when I was only 17. It reminds me of the fairground and I did have a crew cut and I was wearing trainers (red white and blue Adidas).Fantastic. A very Atmospheric tune.
My normal listening is deep house, progressive type stuff, has been for years but this song came in to my head again and I gave it another listen as I always liked it - wow, its a slice of perfection, ranks right up there with songs that I will love until I die.
I have absolutely no idea why this song came into my head today, but once it was there I couldn’t get rid of it and had to find it on here! After suddenly thinking about it, I realised that I had lost my copy of it somewhere down the line, but have now added it back into the collection.
Steve Interesting. Never thought of that before but now you mention it you can really hear it. I love Joe Meek particularly 'Have I the right ' and 'Just like Eddie' ...amazing!
I hadn't thought about it before, but yes. I was living by Archway tube station when this came out, a few hundred yards from where Joe Meek's studio was.
I was in lust with the singer back in the early 90s. Heady days of clubs, pop, pills, thrills & bellyaches. But above all - the Pop! They still hold up, great 60s aesthetic.
As a big new order fan, this band is right up my street they don't need constant radio air play to get where their going, they're far too cool & sofistcated for R1 or any other corporate broadcast
My favourite band of the 1990s, prolific. Arguably the best single they've done, effortlessly cool and retro. The superb 4 track 12" release along with Archway People, California Snow Story and Duke Duvet was a kindof mini So Tough, the 2nd album they released a few weeks later, which included an inferior version of this Top 12 hit
I used to work with her Auntie and she said she was a loser in love albeit that was 20 years ago. I said me and my mates would marry her tomorrow. Remember going to EC1 club for Andy Weatherall's 30th I think in 1993 St Etienne did a live gig and a certain Mr Liam Gallagher was there it was a decent night xx
Huge in Europe right? Not so much here, and they should be. They are fantastic in every way-great singer that is Chocolate on the eyes-super atmospheric-melodies as good as anyone in the last 25 years and quite a body of work.
Never tire of this song, beautiful meleody, love the lyrics and for some reason the groove provided by the rhythm section reminds me of Topper Headon and Paul Simonon of The clash
I've met them and i'd like to meet them now, 20 years later! Bet they're still as lovely as they were then? The Plough Pub, Chelmsford Having done a Radio Road Show!
I met Bob Stanley at a talk and book signing ( Yeah, Yeah, Yeah) in Liverpool in 2013. He was on a panel with McCluskey of OMD. Bob was warm, friendly and modest when me and my partner spoke to him afterwards.
The most amazing underated band ever ❤
Saint Etienne must be one of the most underrated bands in the history of music. They should have been huge.
they are HUGE!
Great Track, one of those hits that should of been number One
Totally agree. A bit like what's happening with 'Bats for Lash's(Natasha Khan) now!
Gary Cronshaw still ❤ them 😊
Gary Cronshaw - for a small time way back when, they were. Always found the lead singer to be very beautiful as well.
After my wife died i played this all the time. I was a bit lost and was playing all their songs. Still like the music but brings back weird feelings. Still love the music though.
That's what happened to me after my wife died. Just played the same music over and over again.
One of the few outstanding songs of the 90s.
THANK YOU!
Ya man ♂️
Come to think of it the 90s was just the 60s Upside Down
Totally agree with you Peter Howard. They are an amazing band. One of my two favourites. And in total agreement about Sarah - she is so wonderful. Actually she is tear jearkingly lovely. this blew my mind when it was released. just came from no where!!!
First heard this at half time at at a football match up in Liverpool 1993. To be honest it was the best part of the evening! The match was bollocks 😎
I can believe it! I must have been there! I had a season ticket.
I'm 53 but i still love this one
Soo cute one😊😊😊
I’m 52 a different generation 😊but love it as well👍🏼
I'm 95 and I don't know what day it is !!
When I was young and beautiful. So long ago. Makes me sad. wish I could go back. What a great band.
20yrs ago my 1st crush introduced me to this, memories are memories thats all. i'll cherish every one to date.
Telstar meets Northern soul . brilliant.
You nailed it - was trying to think what old tune the keyboard riff reminded me of. At first I thought it was the title music to Marineboy, who chewed oxy gum to stay underwater !🤔
Our life was different then so blessed to be here now
and listening to this song with so many cool peoples
20 years old in 1993 .. 80s & 90s were unbelievable
I am in a bad way but this gem is lifting my depression thank you 😁
Truly great gem of a band
Lovely song from the mid 90s .... I didn't realise at the time how gorgeous the singer was out of the band....
What a wonderful sound very retro 60's like but in a 1990's way.
I love Saint Etienne. This has such a brilliant bass line. So conversational! Truly inspired.

I miss the pre internet days. 😔
Killer tune - basically the 'Telstar' of the 90s!
Great observation....you are spot-on,mate.
Telstar do do do do -de de
Dream Academy of the 90s
Telstar meets Northern soul.
That organ bit in the chorus is a straight "Telstar" lift. I like it though... very Meek-y.
Brilliant song Sara's so beautiful
One of my top 5 songs of all time, I love the 60's vibe it gives off
Love this..makes this old man get up dancing around
Sara has one of the most unique and beautiful voices ever. If I ever feel down or stressed I listen to their album so tough, I find it very soothing.
God the early 90's were awesome
Delightful record about all of the small everyday hassles that beset all of us. Superb musicianship from a hugely underrated group. Brings back happy memories of North London in the nineties.
I am a huge fan since 1993 and the first time I heard this song in MTV! Saint Etienne are so great!
Love this track! Positively superb in every aspect. 🎖
A sympathetic, loving woman to cure your blues, God bless 'em!
Beautiful melody...One that gets stuck in your head all day
In a Good Way
Smiles all around
what a beauty and very under rated band
Steven Sutton very true on both.

Under-rated band to say the least. Love this track.

One of my fave bands of all time!
a piece of perfect pop. great production. lovely stuff.
D M Tucker utter perfection...been saying that since 1993
Reminds me of a trip to Skegness when I was only 17. It reminds me of the fairground and I did have a crew cut and I was wearing trainers (red white and blue Adidas).Fantastic. A very Atmospheric tune.

Still listen to and love this song in 2020. Timeless classic.
I have absolutely no idea why this song came into my head today, but once it was there I couldn’t get rid of it and had to find it on here!
After suddenly thinking about it, I realised that I had lost my copy of it somewhere down the line, but have now added it back into the collection.
Aint heard this for ages.....what a great track.
This song makes me feel good to be alive.
What an amazingly wonderful tune !
The guys behind St Etienne were big fans of Joe Meek, the cult 60's record producer, and nowhere is his influence more obvious than on this song.
Steve O Thanks! I always thought I could hear 'Telstar' on this track and wondered if I was imagining it. I love the production on this.
Never knew but can hear it. Wicked fact Steve.
Steve Interesting. Never thought of that before but now you mention it you can really hear it. I love Joe Meek particularly 'Have I the right ' and 'Just like Eddie' ...amazing!
Sounds very much like Telstar, didn't know they were fans of Joe Meek, who was an underrated genius.
I hadn't thought about it before, but yes. I was living by Archway tube station when this came out, a few hundred yards from where Joe Meek's studio was.
Beautiful song. Thank you.
I was in lust with the singer back in the early 90s.

it a generation had a voice, it would be this song
Brilliant song. Few bands or singers like this from the nineties.
Just heard this song once again on the RODNEY BINGENHEIMER SHOW.
I can't get enough of it. ALL TIME CLASSIC!!!!
This is produced by Alan Tarney, one of the great unsung heroes of British pop music.
Rescued A-ha after guiding Cliff Richard in the late 70's...
Catchy, gorgeous, brilliant pop!
Sarah Cracknell - what a hottie!
+Toyman Blood nicely said.
I used to work with her Auntie and she said she was a loser in love albeit that was 20 years ago. I said me and my mates would marry her tomorrow. Remember going to EC1 club for Andy Weatherall's 30th I think in 1993 St Etienne did a live gig and a certain Mr Liam Gallagher was there it was a decent night xx
she is extremely pretty !
you are so right
Huge in Europe right? Not so much here, and they should be. They are fantastic in every way-great singer that is Chocolate on the eyes-super atmospheric-melodies as good as anyone in the last 25 years and quite a body of work.
beautiful, beautiful album
When I came to Japan in the 90’s St Etienne made me so nostalgic for London. All gone now. London now isn’t the cool London of the 80’s and 90’s.
@roin Yes, but that wasn't the cool London of the 1660s.
Donald McDonald!! Really Lol! Seriously?!
Donald McDonald 😂🤣😂
Serious mate ! Never heard of depole ?!
Sorry! But really! Donald Mc Donald!!!
Sarah whatsit singing this - warms a man's heart ;)
Far ahead of their time. It's an achievement
Cheers Bob from Athens
2018 and its still a great song.
Saw a St Etienne tribute band a while back and tbh i thought it was the real deal..
Love it
Never tire of this song, beautiful meleody, love the lyrics and for some reason the groove provided by the rhythm section reminds me of Topper Headon and Paul Simonon of The clash

Beautifull track..
Sarah is just so precious !
This was my favourite song as a little girl, just googled lyrics and finally found name of the band ❤
This is great songwriting. So so great. Hooks
An excellent track, sounds like something from the continent but from Croydon, great ❤
Not heard this one in such a long time! Classic!
effortlessly cool
90s classic with the gorgeous Sarah
What a great single. gorgeous Sarah and the very talented Bob Stanley, nearly finished his fabulous book "Yeah yeah yeah"
Dear God please take care of these folks ....and all of us...

This has to be one of my all time song ❤️and I agree they were so under rated
One of my 90s favourites.
Totally timeless
Definitely an echo of 'Telstar' in this. Love it!
Go on - then I'll bite !!!
Definitely!
Class
My favourite 60s pastiche ever.
Some of this great song so reminds me of early 80s Blondie
Not heard in years.. I just clicked on this not knowing which song it was, it's all coming back 😊. Childhood

Has anyone noticed that this track has Northern soul undertones ?
I've listened to this track for years and never noticed but now you mention it, must say you are right
It actually is a rip-off of 'Telstar' by The Tornado's.But fair play to them....I love it.
