The bottom one is a Mitsumi single speed drive? This was one of the first affordable drives and quite popular back in the early 90s. Most other drives used caddys back then.
I've had that second one installed on an old desktop system I had as a kid back in the late 1990s to early 2000s that my dad had installed above the 5.25" floppy drive. He never got the CD drive working though. This brings back so much nostalgia for me though.

When you think about it most Blue-ray / DVD-ROMs on modern laptops use the same system - laser and pretty much the whole assembly slides in and out.
