After practicing these overtone scales for 6 months I no longer require the upper an lower stack keys on my saxophone. I can play Giant Steps along with John Coltrane with just the bell keys. I am able to independently curl a 50lb dumbbell with each pinky finger! Oh and coincidentally my tone has improved.
What a concept! Overtones are new to me. In our University classical format no overtones were taught. I’ve recently started overtones on my own. I’m gaining in my confidence. Please, somehow get the web info for printing the actual scale material. With the sax playing -background- I couldn’t hear the web address. This will rev up my practice regimen (rev- short for revolution)
Doctor Wally - as a beginner, I am really struggling with overtones. I start by playing low Bb, and I can get High Bb, but not middle Bb. Could you do a video on How to get started with Overtones? Specifically what should I be doing with throat / tongue, jaw etc... :-) Thanks, and Tally-Ho from UK! :-)
Hey Chris! Sorry I missed the notification on this. Absolutely, I'll start working on a new video. In the meantime - it's all about shaping vowel sounds and air velocity. Try the syllable "koo" or "hair." And keep the abdominal muscles contracted - forced, rapid exhalation. Great question!
After watching some of these videos and a few other saxophone things, I can now say with near certainty that all saxophonists have an extremely dorky sense of humor (I've played since 4th grade and I'm 32, and my humor is so in line with this channel it's scary lol).

Are you venting the low C# key for the Low D- High A overtone?
I can't seem to get that one to speak.
AEclavea Yes! Overtones on D are squirrelly. After A2, I don’t use the D fundamental for any overtone work (I.e. D3 I play with low Bb fundamental).
