And now, the Camry is about to become even better. Toyota has finally decided to make every Camry hybrid. By doing this, Toyota has created better basic transportation for the masses. We are talking about a car that has even better fuel efficiency. The 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE will be a car unlike any other, especially with this new powertrain. But what exactly has changed? With the way things are looking, the 2025 Toyota Camry might just end up being next year’s bestselling hybrid. Of course, this is just a prediction, but the odds are stacked in favor of Toyota’s new midsize sedan scoring that honor. Last year, about 12 percent of the Camrys sold in America were hybrids. However, things are about to change because every 2025 Camry will blend the power from a gas four-cylinder engine with one or two electric motors, depending on the model.
As much as owning a Camry is not all about the performance, the numbers definitely add to the hybrid’s case. When it was tested, the Camry XLE AWD managed to go from 0 to 60 in an easy 6.9 seconds. This is a half-second faster than the current hybrid, which has about 208 horsepower, and four-cylinder models.
However, we have some bad news for the Camry-driving speed freaks-all six of them. Sadly enough, Toyota will not be offering a replacement for the outgoing 301-horsepower V6 model that got to 60 in less than 6.0 seconds. A Camry with the same plug-in hybrid powertrain as the RAV4 Prime would fill that void nicely, though packaging a large enough battery in the car would be a challenge.
However, on that note, the 2025 Toyota Camry is, in a way, about fuel economy. Just like the EPA likes to remind us, your mileage may vary.
Just as amazing as its fuel economy is how utterly unremarkable the Camry drives as it achieves such impressive fuel economy. It is obvious that Toyota designed this car to be a hybridized Camry rather than an enlarged Prius. The automaker has kept the old aesthetics to it, such that instead of turning a knob or jiggling a joystick into drive, you slide an old-fashioned gear selector into drive.
The 2025 Toyota Camry will be a smooth operator. Its sloping nose, narrow headlights, and subtly bulging rear fenders suggest a newly aggressive attitude to go along with Toyota’s rekindled interest in building sports and sporty cars. But don’t be deceived or alarmed.
The SE and XSE trims will get sport-tuned springs and dampers, plus larger-diameter anti-roll bars for sharper handling. The XLE AWD that was tested, on the other hand, is the same comfort-first Camry drivers know and love. The smooth and mostly quiet operation of the gas-electric powertrain spills over into the rest of the driving experience. Now, driving the Camry has a calming effect, even in the rudest rush-hour traffic.
When it was taken to the test truck, the Camry was literally quite average. Its 114-foot stop from 60 mph is slightly better than the 121-foot average of every 2023-2025 model-year car that has been tested before. And at 0.82 g, it has slightly less cornering grip than its contemporaries, to the tune of 0.02 g. But you will barely feel that effect.
There are a few upgrades on the new Camry, some of which are not that great. These include front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, a large head-up display, and ventilated seats. These are all the positive upgrades that were put in to give you a great experience. Nonetheless, we could do without the extra active safety systems that beep and boop more than they help, such as the driver attention monitor. This one nags you as soon as you look anywhere other than dead ahead. Toyota also added a premium sound system, which is a nine-speaker JBL audio system.
Toyota has definitely upgraded the new Camry, but there are not that many changes in the interior. But even with that, the changes that have been made are pretty nice and set to enhance your driving experience.
