Mount meru also has good significance in Jainism and in Hinduism too

@@spacegeek6166 At the highest level, all philosophies and religions are essentially referring to the same idea. But Buddhism is the path for me because it asks the least of us, is flexible, yet is very complete. Jainism to me borders too closely to asceticism. Though maybe some day I will academically study it in more depth.
Sumeru is the treasure mountain. As known sun, moon and stars around sumeru. Therefore, black holes are the most suitable explanation. Only angels, saints, fairies, and gods,... can enjoy it and see the treasure, humans only see it as a black hole. Humans live in the south of Mount Meru. According to Buddhism sutra, there are four species of humans living in the four directions of Mount Meru - galaxy or black hole. And the ground is the abode of humans, animals (include dragons which people can't see if they don't want, live in sea or air high sky), demons and underground sinners in hell. Mount meru and the heavens near it are the abode of noble beings and people can't see them too (such as angels, saints, maybe some heaven have precious animals like garudas and some dragons or fish species, devas,...). Each universe have one billion mount meru equal one billion galaxy, today scientist still unable to discover how many galaxy in the universe, but in Buddhism again, there are ∞ universe.

The
Buddhist cosmology divides the bhūmaṇḍala (circle of the earth) into
three separate levels: Kāmadhātu (Desire realm), Rūpadhātu (Form realm),
and Ārūpyadhātu (Formless realm). In the Kāmadhātu is located Mount
Sumeru which is said to be surrounded by four island-continents. “The
southernmost island is called Jambudvīpa”. The other three continents of
Buddhist accounts around Sumeru are not accessible to humans from
Jambudvīpa. Jambudvīpa is shaped like a triangle with a blunted point
facing south, somewhat like the Indian subcontinent. In its center is a
gigantic Jambu tree from which the continent takes its name, meaning
“Jambu Island”.
Jambudipa, one of the four Mahādīpas, or great
continents, which are included in the Cakkavāla and are ruled by a
Cakkavatti. They are grouped round Mount Sumeru. In Jambudīpa is Himavā
with its eighty-four thousand peaks, its lakes, mountain ranges, etc.
This
continent derives its name from the Jambu-tree (also called Naga) which
grows there, its trunk fifteen yojanas in girth, its outspreading
branches fifty yojanas in length, its shade one hundred yojanas in
extent and its height one hundred yojanas (Vin.i.30; SNA.ii.443;
Vsm.i.205f; Sp.i.119, etc.) On account of this tree, Jambudīpa is also
known as Jambusanda (SN.vs.552; SNA.i.121). The continent is ten
thousand yojanas in extent; of these ten thousand, four thousand are
covered by the ocean, three thousand by the Himālaya mountains, while
three thousand are inhabited by men (SNA.ii.437; UdA.300).
Jambudvīpa
is the region where the humans live and is the only place where a being
may become enlightened by being born as a human being. It is in
Jambudvīpa that one may receive the gift of Dharma and come to
understand the Four Noble Truths, the Noble Eightfold Path and
ultimately realize the liberation from the cycle of life and death.
Another reference is from the Buddhist text Mahavamsa, where the emperor
Ashoka’s son Mahinda introduces himself to the Sri Lankan king
Devanampiyatissa as from Jambudvipa, referring to what is now the Indian
subcontinent. This is Based In the Kṣitigarbha Sūtra in the Mahayana.

The
term Jambudvipa is used by Ashoka perhaps to represent his realm in 3rd
century BC, same terminology is then repeated in subsequent
inscriptions for instance Mysorean inscription from the tenth century AD
which also describes the region, presumably India, as Jambudvipa.[14]
‘
the Kuntala country (which included the north-western parts of Mysore
and the southern parts of the Bombay Presidency) was ruled by the
nava-Nanda, Gupta-kula, Mauryya kings ; then the Rattas ruled it : after
whom were the Chalukyas; then the Kalachuryya family; and after them
the (Hoysala) Ballalas.’’ Another, at Kubatur, expressly states that
Chandra Gupta ruled the Naga-khanda in the south of the Bharata-kshetra
of Jambu dvipa : this is the Nagara-khanda Seventy of so many
inscriptions, of which Bandanikke (Bandalike in Shimoga) seems to have
been the chief town. And fuidher, a record to be noticed below says that
the daughters of the Kadamba king were given in marriage to the Guptas.

Mount
Meru (also Sumeru (Sanskrit) or Sineru (Pāli) or Kangrinboqe) is the
name of the central world-mountain in Buddhist cosmology.
Etymologically, the proper name of the mountain is Meru (Pāli Meru), to
which is added the approbatory prefix su-, resulting in the meaning
“excellent Meru” or “wonderful Meru”.[1]

Well, my opinion, following the advices of the Buddha : don't ask astronomical or geographical information to the Buddha, they are useless in the Way of liberation of the Suffering. Follow the advices of the Buddha to correct your mind and with a correct mind and view, you will less suffer. The teachings of the Buddha are here to change, reform, disciplin the mind, not give astronomical informations. Don't charge your mind with this sort of knowledge. The Buddha explain clearly He only share information usefull to the purpose of suffer liberation. Details like the localisation of Mont Sumeru are not important. The Buddha is a doctor, not a geograph or astronom. He porably use the believes of His time of predication to be better undestand by His followers. Buddha tell the truth only about the way to free from suffering. The others details could be skillfull method to be understood, no more. And the Buddha said clearly : to believe me without verification. Keep the words I say when you have verified them, and if some of my words are wrong for you because you have verified they are wrong, let these words, don't keep them.

Am I right to say almost all the time when Buddha talked about Mt. Sumeru it was with his close students almost all already with supernatural penetration powers. They can see dimensions that we can’t. Therefore, they can see Mt. Sumeru. That’s why in many occasions Buddha asked his disciples is this bigger or Mt. Sumeru bigger, etc? Hardly Buddha talk about Mt. Sumeru in his talk with lay persons.

I guess , mount meru is within our galaxy's supermassive black hole ,
Yes I do believe that there is highly condense mass within black hole , wich is mount meru.
In future , science will proove there is something inside black hole , which is not singularity, but mass.
Dwip means arms of galaxy , ocen means visibly empty part of galaxy between arms.
In Jainism it is written that human(humanoid) only reside within 2 and half circle of dwips, so we are within that range also.
That is my theory too, because the black hole at the centre of our galaxy is big enough for Mount Meru, the bulge of stars surrounding the black hole looks like the surrounding of the Meru plus the model of Mount Meru is flat which fits with the universe since the universe is flat as proven by science, plus the milk way arms does look like an ocean I believe our Saha world or one world is the galaxy, plus with other life in our galaxy we have only explored 5% of it, again Buddha saw things differently to how we see it, Namo Amituofo 🙏

I used to think sumeru somewhere inner earth but I wrong
Plus most galaxies have a black hole in the centre, some scientists do think all galaxies have a black hole but they don't yet because they are hard to see and locate, honestly look up a picture of the milky way it matches very closely to traditional Mount Meru depictions, plus with our galaxy we have a bulge surrounding the black hole which is made up of stars close together again that matches up with the close islands surrounding the mountain, I believe with Meru you need divine eye to see it though and possibly inside the black hole is the hell realm, plus I have had Christians and Muslims try to say we believe in flat earth but mount Meru is the galaxy it holds up because the universe is flat, Namo Amituofo 🙏
Mt Meru or Mt Sumeru is mythical mountain. In Tibetan it is called RI Yi galpo Rirab meaning king of mountain.
Buddhist cosmology was written by Vasu Bandu about 5AD. Vasu Bandu is half brother of Asanga who was credited with founding of Mind Only School of Mahayana. Vasu Bandu was a convert to Buddhism from Hinduism. It is believed that the Buddhist cosmology is a copy of Hindu cosmology. The duo brother hail from Peshawar, Pakistan. Central Asia was then predominantly a subcon Buddhist subcontinent as you can see Bamiyan Buddha and many other relics in the region.
To tell you the truth. The Hindus and Buddhists had blurred lines. And before that , a Hindu king known as khinkila gathered a huge army from mainland India and Pakistan 's various kings and kingdoms and used that to invade entire Afghanistan. As per records he had defeated all muslims of the region and to commemorate his victory constructed Buddha statues.
All these kings whether they patronized Buddha or worshipped Hindu gods ( khinkila worshipped Hindu gods too) worshipped within their own Kshatriya ranks and clans.
Buddha nor his diciples copied from hindoo.

Could be, I have heard many theories like it is the north pole and the mountain is actually a metaphor for the planets spinning axis, my current theory is Meru is the black hole at the centre of the galaxy because it is large enough to fit Meru plus pretty much all galaxies have one at there centre, plus when we see depictions of Meru it is flat just like our universe, plus the oceans could be a cosmic ocean

So, we need to know their behaviours and what happening in these matters are infront of our mind (Sthamadi).we need to know the universal right of our matters which are compsed of four part of atom such as hard behaviour ,composed behavior, support behaviour and cold and heat behaviour. so, Everything has started and ended in the universe which cannot exit parmanently ....Buddha points out mainly this about.so we need to stop finding out the external universe and start to find out in our body ....to see the end of trouble. This is very important for humankind because we will face this process almost when we need to go to die.
In this process, we will face the rough, afraid, not knowing the processing of mind understanding truly. This about can cause we cannot go to upper Heaven. I can point out that this mind is not purified.Cannot go Heaven with the unpurified mind. so, we need to exercise daily meditation with high-level mid purifying. I think, Our buddha real target is mind center teaching and purifying. The scientist will approve that Buddha is the greatest person who is born in Asia (The light of Asia)the Trillion of the universe. Thanks for knowledge sharing.

gods in Buddhism are not absolute creators, they are simply heavenly beings reside in the heaven realms (some have great power/control over their realm) but they are not absolute creator, we will talk more about this soon. Amituofo

He couldn't reach higher realms cause you need to have no ego, desires, greed, rules, physical, powers, etc....
All religions god can only reside in brahma realm and lower cause of these reasons.
It's not that the buddha doesn't believe, but it's just not the goal for his teaching and students to become god or live in heaven. His goal for all are nirvana which above all these realms.
Since he only talk about cosmologies with his students that mean they are looking from something outside formless, heaven, hells,ghost, animal, humen /mortals(science cosmologies), etc...... Even the view come from outside of every realms and dimensions and planes. It's hard to say galaxies cause them aren't even outside mortal human realm(science universe) let's alone ghost which we can't even see and others. Just saying.

location of Mt, Meru is not important we will not know exactly to reach in this place and we will not understand exactly their life ...and there are many people in the world who have many religions ..some will not understand what u said but we will wait the time which is the scientist approve. I can say that our buddha said the present tense is real. the past and future do not really exist. I also that is the real buddha religion. Buddha's religion will not argue with other religions . we are watching with mindfulness only in our body which is full of trouble and purification of our mind . Our target is the highest level of mind purification which is called Nirvana or Heaven.
