Marnie's Bio:
Canadian pianist Marnie Laird, praised as "…a technically immaculate, probing and authoritative protagonist" (The Miami Herald), enjoys an active career as a collaborative pianist, chamber musician, and soloist. Prior to founding Brooklyn Duo and Brooklyn Classical, Marnie spent three years as principal pianist of the New World Symphony in Miami under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. In high demand as a pianist in New York City, she worked with several opera companies, including the Gotham Chamber Opera, and was also on staff as a collaborative pianist at The Juilliard School after graduating. Recent performances have taken her to Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Merkin Hall, where her performance with cellist Matthew Zalkind for the Concert Artists Guild competition was broadcast live on WFMT radio.
Originally from Vancouver, BC, Marnie has been the recipient of numerous Canadian awards, including top prizes from the Canadian Music Competitions, Canadian Music Teachers' Association, and the BC Arts Council. Most notably she was awarded the Gold Medal for the highest mark in Canada on the A.R.C.T. piano performance exams. She made her solo orchestral debut at age 13 with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and has participated in the Tanglewood, Music Academy of the West, Kneisel Hall, and Banff summer festivals.
Marnie received her Master’s degree in collaborative piano from The Juilliard School, where she was the recipient of a full scholarship as well as the Orchestral Piano Fellowship. She also has a Master’s in solo piano performance from The University of British Columbia. Her principal teachers include Lorraine Ambrose, Robin Wood, Jane Coop, Jonathan Feldman, and Margo Garrett.

Another fake-out pregnancy video! Just like the last Debussy video we posted, we recorded this when Marnie was pregnant with Emmie last year. (Over a year ago actually since she just turned 1!) This performance is included on Marnie's solo album, Classical Piano Favorites, which is available everywhere online now. Just search for "Brooklyn Classical" on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, etc. and you'll find it. Thanks for watching!
Fake pregnancy? Like Serena Williams?
@@edrooney9580 no, it means they'd recorded the video when Marnie was pregnant, but only posted it now, giving the false impression Marnie's pregnant at the moment (and she is not).
We love you anyway
I thought you were expecting your second child.
The theme at 0:49 is only one small example of why Debussy is my favorite composer.
I feel exactly the same
I could say the same for the one at 0:30.
I like how she smoothly crushed this piece like it was no problem
This is so well written by debussy. He had such a beautiful mind in music. Well played too.
I could just sit and listen to Marnie play all day...ahhhhhhh, so relaxing!
Warm performance. It's like a winter blanket.
My favourite piece from the preludes. This is a fantastic interpretation. Debussy is amazing. Thanks for that.
Very nice. I may learn this.
I didn't know this piece from Debussy; sounds very ... Debussy and beautifully played :)
So beautiful. Debussy is my favorite composer, besides Chopin ❤
So he's not your favorite then
I just found your channel and I’m hooked. Debussy is one of my favorites and you do him justice
You are my new favourite classical pianist! It's great fun to listen to all your cover versions of pop-songs with your cellist-husband (he is great too!), but please post some more videos of you playing the classics! You do it SO well! And there are comparatively few of those...
Love Debussy and your interpretations of his pieces! ♥️
Love it. You play with so much grace.
A wonderful piece, beautifully played. I love that there's lots of time taken with the phrases, and the spaces left as a result.
Thank you
So beautiful . I love this . A great interprestation.
I am learning this piece so appreciate how incredible this is in both technical proficiency and sensitivity
Beautiful!
so fast and so cool
Fecho meus olhos e parece mesmo que estou escutando uma harpista!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Correctio: I hear!
Magnifica Marnie una de las mejores a mi gusto, al igual que Evgeny Kissin
Sublime ! More Debussy please.
(PS. also more Liszt, Chopin, & Satie please)
You can so clearly hear Star Wars in a lot of this! Very cool
"It's a beautiful day in the village, and you are a horrible goose."
@@padraicfanning7055omg untitled goose game I love that game !!!🎉🎉
Life goals 😍
I love Debussy! Congratulations, Marnie, it's amazing! I'd want to play the piano like you, I love cello, violin and classical piano, but I couldn't study classical music, It's too expensive here in Brazil, 😢😢😢
study on your own. as long as you have internet connection and an instrument, you're more than ready to start. I learned piano, guitar and flute only from internet. you got this
My grandpa has a similar body type, just his hair style is more Ben Franklin to it. Anyway, lovely job! Idk how I ended up here since I was looking up a Beethoven rondo I’m learning but I’m glad I found you :)
💕🇧🇷
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🌹🌹🌹
It looks you were carrying your beautiful little girl when you performed this gorgeous work. Hopefully, she will follow in her parents footsteps and one day you will be a trio. Gina Dodds
Marnie you look Gorgeous !
I hope the Baby turns out to be the next Mozart.
@Ryan Anson Great preference !
Faz um tocando la campanella voce toca muito
@brooklyn classical what age would you recommend to start my little girl on piano. She loves watching your videos and she’s only 18months 😀
Aw, that’s so cute! I started when I was 4 and I think that’s generally a good age to start. 4 or 5! Thanks for watching!
Did you record with Sontronics Stc2?
Thought you were switching to Star Wars at 1:23 !!!
So true! Apparently Debussy was WAY ahead of his time.
Wouldn't be surprised if John Williams was subconsciously thinking of this while he was composing for Star Wars.
That's the part when the star destroyer blasts the blockade runner.
I hope a piece of Rachmaninoff prelude in G minor Op.23 No.5❤❤❤ilysm
سحر ..
Will you name the baby debussy?
🪿
That sure is one hell of a bio xD damn. So impressive. How does your husband fare next to you out of interest? You're both so talented and woke perfectly together though, and that's what's the most important thing.
연주 괜찮은데 곡이 적어서 아쉽군요.
thank you for the great performance. Will keep visiting for more. Meanwhile you are welcomed to my channel too. Thanks♡
Music is the silence between the notes.
Stupid comment. If that was true there'd be no music here because there's no silence, only continous lovely notes and sound.
ushoys it’s actually a quote from Claude Debussy
@@harrisonharper7486 I'm a big fan of Debussy but his skills were with music, not words.
@@ushoys cocked that one up a bit didn't u? With your "stupid comment" I mean 😊
tee cee Perhaps but at least I didn’t upvote my own comment as you just did to yours
