    The people of Lake County actially love it. I do. My home is in Nice, just four miles west of Lucerne. Clear Lake is a beautiful place. Visit Lakeport, Upper Lake, Kelseyville, Middletown. And the locals are wonderful.

    Most of the year, clear lake for the most part lives up to its name, sadly it does have an algae problem which blooms wildly in the summer, but it’s still my home and I still love it. But still, I recommend coming here later in the year, just be careful because we do have severe storms during the winter. Also my opinion on the school as I did go to them most of my life, the actual system they run on is for the most part trash, but that is to be expected from the American school system, overall staff and teachers are usually really nice!

    Me and my partner visited lake Claire two weeks ago and we end up buying beautiful Lake views lands We were shocked that how reasonable everything was there. we believe lake clear is great opportunity for people who wants to invest in Lakeview lands before it becomes the next Lake Tahoe . I think it’s a great time to invest in that town. I totally feel that town is moving towards becoming more desirable ,it’s the matter of time .

    Take hwy20 all the way to the coast. Passing the lakes you will notice the smell. Once you are passed them and hit US101 north, you shortly come to the last segment of hwy20 at the gateway to the redwoods. Where you can smell the green, the earthen dirt, the mist, the true epic beauty that is found on hwy20 west towards the pacific coast. A drive so inspiring that car and bike enthusiasts drive hundreds of miles to drive the hwy 20 between Willits and Fort Bragg.

    Half my young life was spent there as well as going to High School there. It flourished in the late sixties and seventies. Lots of people and activities.We fished there and ate the fish. It has been a superfund site since the gold and mercury issues in the 70's.

    Ew. Im a Mendocino county local that Loves the crystal clear waters of the eel river and can tell you that lake counties volcanic lakes are just that, sulfur smelling nasty lakes.
    It always smells like chit as well as the craziest meth hubs of Northern California

    Why can't they clean up the water?

    • @weekendwanderin6953
      @weekendwanderin6953  9 місяців тому

      The lake has a long history of water quality problems, including mercury contamination, pesticide usage, and invasive species. High concentrations of nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus fuel large algal blooms and contribute to poor water quality in the lake. Phosphorus is particularly abundant in Clear Lake and its associated watershed. As a result, harmful phytoplankton known as cyanobacteria thrive here, some of which can produce toxins harmful to humans.
      Probably very costly to fix all this as well. Lake is quite large. I think there have been efforts to clean though.

    • @atsu6165

      You would have to see it in person to understand how large the lake is.

    • @timgerk3262

      It's a very fine lake to be a bird or a fish. When comparing to North Coast rivers, the ocean, or Tahoe, these are all very cold water, or not a place where nutrients have collected. It's understandable that people will enjoy swimming pools more than swimming holes or duck ponds. Better to not try making something into what it's not.
      Things have been done to address issues from mining, farming, and primitive sewerage sysytems in the 30s through the 80s, some of them take time for natural cycles to work out. Since the lake has limited outflow (through Cache Creek) the contents of the lake wash away very slowly. Thus distinguishes Clear Lake from reservoirs that rise and fall drastically every year.
      Lastly, Cache Creek seldom flows right into the Sacramento, but vanishes into sands and gravels north of Woodland. Meaning, the ecosystem is mostly isolated.

    "It's a really sad place..." 1 second later: "I wouldn't call it sad..." Uh...you just did! Don't judge the whole lake by visiting a, literal, tiny stretch of the place. Talk about making a hasty judgement!!

    Years ago, I brought my deceased spouse and stepson to visit their mother and her partner for a week. Back then, the water was green in many places. I've kept in touch, though not often, with folks I met there. I would NEVER consider swimming in that water nor would I dream of eating a fish from there. It can get hot and dry there and like many inland areas, can be a fire danger. If I understand, the Southern area is pretty "low budget" (I'm being kind) and a haven for meth; I am told it is expanding, but where is it not?

    You're in one of the worst areas of the lake, the north shore is all pretty run down. The south/west is the good area, where you note that it is not close to the lake. I have never seen homeless and have not seen any crime on the south/west. Lake County is the poorest county in California.

    • @collinsfriend1
      @collinsfriend1 10 місяців тому +4

      There's homeless in Lakeport too, and Kelseyville. In fact there was a homeless guy living for years in the Black Forest and another in Kelseyville Rivieras. I'm sure there's more than we don't know about. Once there was a woman who lived in the bushes for a whole year (before they were cut down to make the walking trail) on the grounds of Sutter Lakeside Hospital. I worked there for 16 years and never knew it. Found out from a friend of hers who became a patient. They're around, but they have many places to hide in plain sight, or in the woodsy areas.
