Het Nederlandse televisieprogramma "Countdown" was van 1976 t/m 1993 “Europe’s Number 1 Rock Show” en werd uitgezonden bij Veronica. Later werd het programma ook uitgezonden in het buitenland en was het op z'n hoogtepunt in meer dan 20 landen op televisie te zien.
Gedurende deze 17 jaar muziekgeschiedenis zijn er opnames gemaakt met talloze internationale sterren, zoals Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, George Harrison, U2, The Police, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Lenny Kravitz, Depeche Mode, New Order, Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, R.E.M., Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Cure, Run DMC, Cyndi Lauper, Iron Maiden, New Kids On The Block, LL Cool J.
Uiteraard kwamen Nederlandse top-acts als Doe Maar, Andre Hazes, Herman Brood, Frank Boeijen, Spargo, Golden Earring, Time Bandits, De Dijk, De Raggende Manne, Hans de Booij, Gerard Joling, Drukwerk ook langs voor een optreden in Bussum.
Countdown werd gepresenteerd door oa Lex Harding, Erik de Zwart, Adam Curry, Simone Walraven Wessel van Diepen, Jeroen van Inkel, Rob Stenders, Simone Angel en Jasper Faber.
Het Countdown archief is vrijwel helemaal compleet en sinds 2017 eigendom van het Amerikaanse Reelin’ In The Years Productions (David Peck - reelinintheyears.com/) en Double 2 Hilversum (Jan Douwe Kroeske - www.double2bv.nl). Het archief bestaat uit meer dan 3.000 analoge mastertapes die allemaal gedigitaliseerd en gearchiveerd zijn. Without a doubt the best post Led Zeppelin line-up. The Grace of Charlie Jones on Bass. The mesmering beats of Chris Blackwell, The No nonsense guitar playing of Doug Boyle, The magic fingers of Phil Johnstone on keyboard. Not in this particular video though but when they're really playing they had you rocking. Oh, Let's not forget that fellow with the long curlyhair, I forget his name. lol I love this song, Just love it.

I have absolutely no recollection of doing this at all! It was always awful having to mime, especially to a drum machine, but that's how it was back then. 99% of TV was mimed with very few exceptions. Thanks for posting ... it's like watching somebody else!
I saw the pads on the drum kits and I thought that must feel very restricting and frustrating CB. It sure must be nice to be able to look back in your life and see it through the magic of video though. Me? I would just keep thinking" I'm getting old. Great memories of going to the concerts though. I oftened wonder if artists watch their videos from way back.

Great comment….. I was 19 in 1969 and by then LZ proved to me that the greatest rock band had arrived and would never be overtaken with that kind of pure natural talent. Many came close. RP’s vocals were just amazing and still are at his age…. take some time and check out his and Allison’s stuff.

This is probably one of the best cases to wonder... did they actually get RP and the band to lip sync to the folks in the studio. Or did he/they tell the producers to fook of wankers and they played live for the actual fans there, let the tv monkeys overdub it to their hearts content. Gotta believe there is at least ONE band that said broadcast what you want, but we are NOT lip syncing for these fans standing here... lol Would like to think if there was anyone from the halls of rock royalty to do it, it would be RP to grab a led zep and say I got your lip sync right here.
No, we mimed. Most TV back then was mimed, sometimes the vocal was live and the band mimed but on the whole you just turned up, mimed for a bit, then buggered off to the bar.
