  • A convenience for some, new technology connecting a range of devices and appliances in smart homes is changing the lives of people who have disabilities. Todd Stabelfeldt is a complete quadriplegic who uses tech like Apple's HomeKit and Switch Control to run a business, help around the house - and perhaps most importantly to him - care for his family.

I'm physically disabled and I wish that I could afford all of that assistative technology, but sadly, it's out of my reach.

That's really real! I send positive vibrations your way that this other reply is true, and they will come your way soon enough 🙏🏿💓✊🏿 definitely an important comment, because as heartwarming as this story is, seeing this man have more autonomy, even just starting with Apple(Siri), those phones are not accessible for many! Expensive in terms of how phones go. So both are important to recognize, love to see this man's life improve, but also taking into account those who don't have the access to these technologies still. Hopefully, soon enough. 🙏🏿 much love.

I’m sorry to hear that! Maybe you could group up with your town to start a lending library :3
Although that might be unrealistic 😓but they do make lending libraries specifically for people with disabilities

I'm planning on making this my job, building smarthomes for disabled people. If it ever takes off, I'll hope to sponsor some people all around the world.

That's great... I'm physically handicapped myself and I hate the newer stuff that relies on wifi, it can all be done with systems that have existed before the average Joe figured out they could automate stuff. Oh I see the person who is worse off then me who can't move enough to unplug the wifi and throw it against the wall is going to be fine when that thing bottlenecks?! AND THEN being that you know he is probably in the US... they will throttle back the internet usage right when you really need it!!
