    Great info video. I think Apex learned a thing or two as well. So you were able to pull the Apex housing apart and transfer the “guts” into the original alternator housing? Genius! One good thing is where the unit is mounted on the 392, you didn’t have to dig deep to get to it. 👍

      I sent to them the original unit and Apex did the transplant! 😁

    Hola Marco, sorry to hear about the alternator. I’m glad you were able to resolve and install a new one. I have the 2021 JLUR with V6 Etorque but it has no alternator, it just uses a little motor instead to charge my Optima Yellow-top battery. Thanks for the informative vid. Good to know for when god blesses me with a 392 one day. Safe travels amigo! -Ryan

    Just realized you also mentioned it's running consistently at 14.4 volts? The JL's generally have fluctuating voltage due to our "smart" charging systems. Is there something different with the 392 vs all other JL's in terms of charging circuit? Again, just curious?.

    • @OVRLNDX
      @OVRLNDX  7 місяців тому +1

      Same smart alternator as JL’s! The upgraded one is not a smart alternator

    Marco, thank you for the share, I’ve been debating on the alternator upgrade why I’m not is upgraded with you with power options last year. I had an issue which I think was alternator related. Keep up the great work.

    Thanks for the vid and the info 👍
    I was just at Jerry's shop earlier in the week getting some exhaust work done on our JK and I know where your new serpentine belt is 😅😅😅
    Jerry wouldn't let me hold it hostage so I could get a chance to shake your hand.

    So I guess by going to this alternator it no longer has a "smart alternator"?!
    That's actually a great thing and if that is the case no way will I go with an oem replacement when mine inevitably fails.

      @OVRLNDX  7 місяців тому +1

      Correct!!

  • @JEEP-N-DIRT
    @JEEP-N-DIRT 7 місяців тому

    Marco, great story but very confusing based on how are JL charging systems is "supposed" to work, or at least as we've all seen. You mentioned all the load you have with multiple batteries, but correct me if I'm wrong. We're unable to connect "other" batteries to our system like in the old days hence the reason for using systems like red-arc etc... That said, since the systems are DC-DC charging and there's a separate system i.e. Red Arc then you're alternator should never see anything other that what the overall (fluctuating) charging load is. Not sure if you were implying that the extra loads caused the alternator to go bad or ?? Seems odd because the Red Arc (if functioning correctly) would never let your alternator overload (in theory). Just curious?

    • @OVRLNDX
      @OVRLNDX  7 місяців тому +1

      Well the RedArc system went in safe mode when this happened. Same thing happened with the trailer’s Redvision system, I did noticed in Baja that trailer was not charging. I think the alternator was giving up since December

  • @markrigney4372
    @markrigney4372 7 місяців тому

    So the alternator was fine you just put too much load on it with the four batteries you mentioned if not the fifth auto/stop battery.

    • @OVRLNDX
      @OVRLNDX  7 місяців тому

      I believe it went bad because of that. Fortunately the 392 doesn't have that aux battery nor the on/off system

      Alternators/electrical can be a strange thing. I had a new 1986 Nissan PU back in the day. I had the stock OEM alternator gp out under warranty. Had a new OEM alternator installed. It lasted a month. Then had a 3rd OEM alternator installed and it went to 275,000 miles;.
