The Shift series did one thing right, they made the cockpit driving experience more surreal and intense. It's kinda upsetting it failed in other areas.
It shift wasn't in NFS franchise...it would have been much better. NFS has a reputation for street racers so motorsport genere was not very well executed.
It's not just about the detail, it's the ambiance, and the motion blur, the shake, and the DriveClub, and Need for Speed shift nails it and still one of the best years past
If you played Driveclub you would know that isn't true. The closet experience that can explain driveclub is Top Gear season 11, episode 1 where Jeremy smeared Vaseline on the camera lens.
@@saleens302extremerockstar games were soo much better in the 2000s yearly releasing soo many games and those were packed with details nowadays they only release one game every decade they are in shit quality the only thing they are focused on is GTA online
Better for those who don't know what it's like to wear a racing seat belt.. The pilot doesn't move backwards and forwards 10cm each time he brakes or accelerates...
I love that feature. I’m always wishing from FH5 and future racing games we can like customize the interior and add in stuff like new seats, gauges, and many accessories.
Shift felt really good and immersive to play because of the cockpit camera, despite leaning heavily towards arcade physics for a simcade racer. They got the camera shake just right. Even after more than a decade the game aged really well. If anyone ever approached me wanting to delve into sim racers, I would recommend Shift to them as the first game 100%.
3 words: Sense. Of. Speed. Shift, Driveclub and Assetto Corsa are the only ones who pulled it off quite well. If people would say to me that these aren't realistic, I'd say falling asleep from boredom while driving a fast car isn't realistic at all
I thought you were gonna include the helmet cam from nfs shift/shift 2, it was the greatest cockpit view I've even seen in any racing game, the adrenaline rushed no matter what
Bruh shift and shift 2 unleashed has amazing cockpit view all those numbers on dashboard continuously changing was amazing and the sense of speed was amazing
I agree, plus in shift 2 bets cockpit and in shift 2 in all cockpits all working, odometer, speedometer, tachometer, sensor of turbo, oil temperature sensor,
@@Scooter227 I still have Drivec;ub with DLC as well, both non-VR and VR, and play them regularly. Sadly I didn't get the Bikes expansion before it was delisted.
grid autosport cockpit is total ass. they didnt have time to actually make detailed interior models but after the grid 2 fiasco they didnt want to get caught with no cockpit view especially in what was positioned as a more serious, simcade-oriented game, so they just covered up the shitty low-res interiors with a blur filter so they could say they had cockpit lmao
It really sucks that Shift has manufactured input lag. Idk what they were thinking, the physics are fun, forcr feedback is great but the immersion goes away when I spin out thanks to the game not doing what I ask it. Still one of my all time favourites though
Test drive series since 1987 were the first in use cockpit view, and Need for speed 2 and 2SE also have cockpit view, but only using the default graphics hardware, no the 3d accelerator graphics (voodoo 3Dfx)
One thing i don't understand in racing games is why they don't turn the steering wheel more then 90° degrees, even the latest racing games like Forza Horizon 5 and Gran Turismo 7 doesn't have animations that go beyond that. Don't get it where this limitation come from.
GTR 2 has a very realistic camera shake. The first GRID also has some nice details, you can actually see what gear is changing into. TDU had very realistic interiors at the moment. NFS Shift was very realistic too, and I also remember the first time I saw a Gran Turismo in HD. In terms of modelling, GT is always a step ahead (without counting non premium models).
GTR2's cockpit view has one weakness; it has no working wipers. If it has working wipers then it would be perfect. Someday, someday, maybe though CrewChief plug-in. Race 07 / GTR Evo is slightly better in this department. It's cockpit view is pretty much based on GTR2 (both are SimBin titles, after all). This time however, it has working wipers (or tear-offs for Open Wheel cars).
In many RCG games so far, I have never worried about whether I will hit the wall because the car is too fast when cornering, or have any car accidents, until I used the helmet view in Shift 2, this is why it Will always be in my mind.
One thing I think people aren't talking about that much is the variety in physics engines; surely trying to find the ultimate racing simulator is one thing, but we have so many different types of physics and type of racing games at this point that are impressive... and it will just become more and more impressive in the future as well (considering how fast these titles have been churning out). It is SO fun to follow all the options you can have these days.
Imagine combining the intensity of Shift with the graphics of DriveClub and the physics of Assetto Corsa. That would make for one sick racing game. I'm still baffled by the fact that no game still looks on the same level as Driveclub.
I'm playing Shift 2 for the second time around. Incredible game. Nurburgring full track at night Works car is such a rush. Haven't had my hands that sweaty in awhile. I'm over here using a controller. The intensity of the game itself is on another level, half the time I play in the helmet cam and it's phenomenal.
The change of the intention that has the shift and then move to the boring of Forza motorsport lr gives strength to the importance of the environment and exaggeration for a more exciting experience
Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown (TDU 3) is scheduled to come out later this year (September 22nd, if I remember correctly, unless it's been delayed again and I'd rather have a delayed TDU game than one as buggy at launch as TDU 2 was).
It would have been funny if Mario Kart 7 was added as a bonus. Granted, you can only use Cockpit View in replays, but it is rather impressive for the Nintendo 3DS.
