I've owned a elite and it just recently broke. Personally I'm probably going to buy it again because I like the paddle placement better than scuf and this controller, I don't like how there in the middle of the controller and not on the side where you would naturally place your fingers. A con I would like to mention to anyone at all that is going to buy a elite controller, the rubber grips eventually wear out and peel off and this will happen even quicker if you have sweaty hands such as myself. I mean, after my 360 and ps3 constantly needing the controllers recharged every like 3 days i decided to go wired to avoid have the recharge/change battery message all the damn time.
Don't get how anyone can tolerate the lag of wireless peripherals. I get like 1 sec of input lag on a default ps4 controller, and like 1.5 secs on a standard xbox when using them wirelessly.
I'm intrigued. With those extra extra buttons on top, I can customize those buttons on Apex Legends so I don't have to take my thumbs off the analog sticks.
How does nobody mention in any review except this one just how amazing the ABXY buttons are on the ultimate. Those buttons are amazing and so much easier to press than any other controller's abxy buttons. Even the tournament edition buttons are not the same. If you are debating between the ultimate and the tournament edition from razer, the ABXY buttons are 10x better on the ultimate than the tournament edition.
Latency when it comes to wireless peripherals have improved greatly over the years. Its not as much of an issue these days as it was say 10 years ago. The real issue with wireless peripherals these days is battery life. U don't wanna have your controller die on u during a tournament
there are many controllers that have less input lag in wireless mode, including the ubiquitous ds4: 10ms via usb cable. don't believe me? good, look it up.
I have had both controllers and i gotta say the razer is a lot better if you don’t care about wired. The elite has rubber grips that fall off after a while of extended use and the buttons eventually broke for me. The real deal maker for me was being able to lower and increase sensitivity on the fly with the razer during gameplay, if you play competitively and want to get the most out of a controller the razer is the way to go.
No deal breaker at all for the wired connection. Even better actually because no lag. This controller is flawless. Especially with the lighting and the additional button layout.
Thanks to you, I ordered my Razer controller this morning. Thanks for going over everything, had no clue the controller was strictly wired but Im 100% okay with that, I prefer it honestly, switching batteries is a hassle.
Dont even own an xbox but your dumb, a standard xbox controller is 50-60 and this comes with alot of features, now the pricetag on this is crazy and overpriced but think of it like a mechanical keyboard or gaming mouse, you pay for what you get
Baker The Bradley I would spend 80$ max key word (I) its my option to spend more then that if I want. i dont need all the fancy bells and whistles I just need it to work.
I have the tournament edition of this controller. Amazing controller, missing a few of these features, but other than that it is the same. The fact that the controller is wired is great in my opinion because wired controllers get less input delay, plus I don't have to worry about it dying. The cable is super strong, the design of said cable is flawless. I have owned mine for 14.5 months and I can still use minimum deadzones, despite having played with this thing and average of 6-7 hours a day. The only problem I have is that for the tournament edition at least, and someone who has had the ultimate for a while, let me know if you've experienced this too, but some buttons will start to give double inputs. This only started happening to me after 10 to 12 months of owning the controller though, so the only thing that would keep me from ever buying this controller again, is if Astrogaming started making controllers for the Xbox One.
Literally same problem with mine. The RB double clicks so if you face any problems with this expensive controller outside of the warranty period, ur basically screwed. Also their are barely any videos on how to take this thing apart and fix buttons
For 2 years of usage - no one of the Wolverine Ultimate survived more then 8 month. Now I'm in process of the replacing of 3rd (!!!) gamepad with same issue "RT-button sticking". I'm fan of the MK11 player and RT-button is very important in this game :D. In all 3 broken gamepads after 6 month RT-buttons starting to sticking: you press button - game character go into block stance, you releasing button - game character release block stance with some lag, or even continue to be in it. Additional issue: each model of the same controller reacting on the D-Pad different in compare with previous. Each time you have to change finger moves from zero.
I use one every day. I love mine. Although I’m starting to wear out my LB since that is probably the button I use the most. I will probably buy another one when I have to.
I mean wired is actually more beneficial than wireless because if it’s wireless there would obviously be some input lag and probably a delay, you know, like less feedback when you are pressing buttons and stuff, it also needs to be charged after some time. For the wired ones, no delay, no lag, and definitely no need to charge and it also gives a better feedback or response since it is wired, if you know how to keep your wire organized and not get in your way, I don’t see why it is a how breaker.
That light panel is awesome imo I really like that but no wireless is a killer. I actually wasn't expecting that at all, everything else on the controller seems so modern
Good review. I’ve gone through at least 5 Xbox One controllers(stick drift)and decided to try an elite. I always get a warranty. It lasted for a year before it started to get stick drift. I had the 360 controller for 5 years with no issues! The only thing Microsoft needed to improve was the d-pad on the 360 in my opinion. Meanwhile, my 11 year old son has had the same PS4 controllers and he’s rough on them. He plays fighting games and shooters. I’m gonna try my luck with a wolverine controller.
I've had both the Elite n' Ultimate, must say the Ultimate is the best controller I've ever owned. Plus the durability is top notch, your elite controller can technically break in seconds if you remove the cable from the charging port compared to the ultimate having a catch so the port won't be a issue in the future.(My elite's port broke the first time I removed the cable... ) Other than that the rubber on the palm grips will fall apart for every user pretty much... While with the Ultimate I haven't had a issue and I've had this controller longer at this point. Some other issues you may run into will be rubber coming off the joystick, the trigger sensors on the board deciding not to work practically bricking your controller
It is, everyone who plays comp games on console either uses a scuf or some other sort of controller with paddles/buttons on the back. MLG and many other companies who host events allow them.
Elite controllers are dog shit though. I had one break by way of left thumbstick dying. The headohone jack was also messed up. I bought a new one, same issues are starting up again, left thimbstick has drift and headphone jack is messed up. Right bumber is giving out, upper left paddle is completely dead. Then bought the razer wolverine, please for the love of god switch to it. Actual quality
Dont even care about the controller now... Saw the eagles shirt and im sold! #Wentzylvania. But forreal, nice in depth review man! Glad someone takes the time to give an honest unbiased review.
I just love how the the d-pad buttons are separated. Whenever I play with the original Xbox One Controller on my PC, I find that the buttons tend to malfunction sometimes. Especially in games like Rocket League where I use the d-pad a lot. Although I'm pretty sure that's just my controller getting old :p
This is not made for the casual couch peasant. It's for competitive professional players. They don't lay and chill on their couch, but sit in front of the screen instead. Wired is better because of less input lag. Too many idiots here saying the wolverine is overpriced, simply because it's razer, but then they say that the elite is cool. The wolverine has all the same and even more features than the elite for the same price, fanboys.
6:19 im not arguing or saying your wrong but personally I like the wire because I've had to many times where my controller dies on me while playing and I am used to game systems with wired controllers
Well, my second M$ Elite shit out... I'm so pissed off. I had a Razar Onza for 360. It was a superb device that also suffered a couple fatal design problems initially. Razar's method of setting things right with a customer who recievedva faulty device was: cut the cord close to the controller and text a pic to customer service showing the back plaque with the serial number and the severed cord. By morning I had a factory new Onza on my doorstep, no questions asked and no money out of my pocket. And it happened again with the same rapid, dedicated response from the Razar service department. I'm more than confident in the quality of their products and promise to make it right at any expense. The particular issue behind the onza problem is unique to the feature they were exploring with it and I can't imagine that they're stuff has been anything but improved since. And the mouse click feature that has become Razar's calling card can not be overstated. It makes using old fashioned buttons feel drastically outdated and inferior. That 1/1000th of a second difference between a perfect strike and getting teabagged at 4am by some shitty little runt on Fortnight. Couldn't find a Wolverine when my last elite broke... actually I don't think it had been released yet, so I had to spend the money on something I knew would self destruct. I'm getting old and arthritis is a bitch. I NEED the flexability and customization of these things to play at all. So far from an extravagance, I have no choice but to invest in something that I can use. I don't know how many years I have left before my thumb and metacarpals are a mass of ground up bone dust in a skin glove... or perhaps fused solid. Young fucks laugh it up while you can... decades of gaming is a life well lived but I finally understand whe old people always seemed so pissed off when I was younger. Everyone is condemned to watch our youth and viggor wane and the world we were convinced we could be the first generation that's not doomed to repeat the silly mistake of getting OLD. I remember being 22, tripping balls and rolling my ass off on some amazing E, having a three way on the floor if the bathroom with two beautiful, dirty girls and looking in the mirror thinking "This is what it feels like to transcend mortality... but it was just the drugs and even the thought itself was fleeting because it was cut short by a rusty trombone... my point is. Everything we enjoy. The people we love most. The times that seem to border on transcendental... they are gonna be gone before you get a chance to say goodbye. Then you'll be living in a motel room after your wife goes bonkers and gets you charged with felony contempt of court. Playing a game to distract you from the existential angst of middle age and POP! Controller busted. No replacement and soon you're typing some frazy rant on a youtube chanel wishing you could find the reset button for life. But that would suck too... imagine going back 25 years and having to wait for widespread adoption of the internet, 3D gaming, smartphones, 4K HDR TVs, DLC, Game of Thrones and Walking Dead... living through the death of the grunge movement. The shit we have now is amazing but its beginning to outpace my ability to keep up and i feel like a dottering, crippled old man, telling everyone who walks past my park bench about the good old days and feeling left out of the world you know. I remember when Street Fighter 2 came out. Arcade I'm talkin about. Lines longer than rails of coke at a Whitesnake concert. The rows of "next" quarters lined up across the ledge of the marquee. See... sounds crazy.
I have this exact Razer controller and it is amazing, HOWEVER the biggest and really ONLY issue with it is that it randomly gets stuck or freezes. And that can be a pretty big problem for online shooters or other competitive games. That is truly the only issue with it, the controller is in great shape and has been well taken care of, my friend has one and the same thing happens to him with his. The controller will freeze randomly after playing for a bit and you have to unplug it and plug it back in. you will continue moving in some direction while it is frozen and that may be enough to get you killed. Very frustrating when playing rounds of siege or other shooters where you only have 1 life and every second counts. Nothing is wrong with the controller other than that and it has never been dropped, just thought it should be made aware that it must be an issue with these controllers. I used to have an elite xbox one controller and have never had that issue and it was wireless so I would say the xbox one elite controller is a bit more reliable even though it isn't even wired in. You can also plug the elite in to charge it or take the battery pack out and just play with the cord attached if that is your fancy which reduces the weight. I am going to be getting a new elite controller soon because of the reliability of it and it not freezing, however the razer is a great controller for other games that are not competitive online. 80% of the time it is not an issue, but 20% of the time, having this happen multiple times in the same night can be frustrating and it never fails, if you play it for a couple hours it WILL happen. Still like the Razer controller though, hope they do a firmware update that could fix this freezing issue in the future because other than that it is an excellent controller and if it was sold for less than the elite I would whole heartedly recommend it. They are pretty much the same price though so now I will own both.
Great review, thanks. I don't mind the wired aspect, I play fighting games where it helps also. I have an elite controller but has stick drift and at a cost of $100 to ship it off to a third party to repair I might as well pay the bit extra and buy one of these.
I have the Raiju for PS4, Sabertooth, and Wildcat. Also have an Elite Controller. What I really like are the extra buttons on top. I hate pressing L3 for Sprint so I am always remapping one of those for Sprint. Sprinting being vital if you play Warframe or as a Hunter in Destiny and Destiny 2
I have gone through three of these controllers. They feel great to play with after getting used to it but break on me after a few weeks. I do love the placement of the m1 and m2 switches (switcher right next to bumpers) but the main issue that I have had was with the thumb sticks. From the left stick controlling the right one, or the left stick just not inputting correctly. Idk probably my luck, have seen absolutely no one with these same issues. I’ve had such a terrible experience with this controller that I might as well use a elite or scuf, but If you want to spend $200 for a overpriced controller that can’t handle a single drop (in my case) then go for it.
Let me ask you something frank, Do you game with a wireless keyboard and mouse? That’s what I thought, the answer is no, So I’m tired of reviewers seeing that as a con on controllers, Especially when they are people who mostly do PC reviews. No one games wirelessly when they play competitive.
Blu3ManiC It's a little different when you have a wide open space between you and your TV. Wires can be a pain when you have pets, kids, or drunk and generally careless friends.
Igmar van Bergen Idk if you know but razers keyboards are named after spider that’s why it’s called the black widow it’s not after marvel. I’m not trying to be rude I’m just saying hope you understand.
Considering I’ll probably never pick up a new Xbox console, I really appreciate that Razer made a high end wired controller. I want to pick one up for Halo and Forza 5 on PC.
Wired is a positive. So many people are worried about lag. On my system, the controller is one of the biggest culprits. I can tell if my Elite is running wired or wireless.
fictiondic I literally almost wore that same shirt today but opted for my Ertz shirt instead! Would've been hilarious to randomly watch a video and see a guy wearing the same shirt. Super Bowl champs!
So with the M5 and M6 adjustments you could change them during the game right as you're running around have it more agile and then when you're ready to fire or fight have it more precise change back and forth as you go right
$150ish for something like this is a steal. When you look at the extra engineering to cram all of those extra controls into an already finished product isn't easy or cheap. And the dedicated software cost money to develop.
“$150 for a controller?! Buy a pc it’s cheaper.” Spends hundreds of dollars on pc headsets, keyboards etc. just play what you like and spend your money on what you want lol
I'm looking for a new controller after 6 years of my Elite 1, is the Wolverine worth buying it? I'd like an honest opinion. The video does give justice to it, but not entirely.
Had mine about 3 weeks. Been using the elite 2 for over a year. It feels way more responsive and from most reviews and friends it lasts a long time. The stick tension is taking a while to get used to as I played on the elite 2 with soft tension. The paddles take a couple hours to get comfortable with. It's worth it
Hey guys, I just got Razer Ultimate and feel I should let you know; The second D-pad (not the one already fit in with the separate 4 buttons) is kinda stiff and doesn't feel good. Furthermore, it doesn't clasp well in its place and one of its edges may rise during play. I've seen this issue mentioned in another review but hoped it wouldn't occur to me. The other D-pad works fine but is not the best for fighting games (separate buttons can sore the thumb after lots of QC motions). For fighters, I have yet to use a D-pad better than the satellite disk they have on the Elites (and I have also used Hori Fighting Commander). Perharps Wolverine Tournament Edition is better in that regard but I haven't played it. The pros mentioned in this vid are there, but I guess this controller's made for shooters, albeit the best tools for shooters are mouse and keyboard. At this price range one would expect they didn't mistreat fighters like that. Light effect's cool and all. I hope this comment could prove of use to somebody
Useful comment but I like controllers for third person games, and my previous ones have broke so I bought this hoping it will be more durable. Crossing my fingers. Don’t play fighters, so do u think I should be happy with the purchase?
People are complaining about the price when theres the tournament edition that is 40$ cheaper and has almost the exact features excluding the control pad at the bottom of the controller.
For all the PS4 owners look at the C40 TR it looks amazing from astro gaming..you can pre order it now comes out around March 2019 for around $200..it is very expensive but you get what you pay for..i am an Xbox one x owner just wanted to share with the gaming community
All of u are complaining about $150 for us Australians it’s $230 like wtf everything is so cheep in America idk why you all complain Just a standard controller is $80
It's a half-assed mixamp on the bottom of the controller. This would be OP if it was the standard xbox connection for headsets as I can use my own plugable mixamp.
The agility and precision paddles would be amazing for fortnite on console, you can have a slower sensitivity for aiming and shooting and whenever you want to build you can click the agility paddle and instantly have a faster sensitivity
I bought this to help me learn how to snipe (I really suck at it). It seems that the "Focus" function may help me out but I cannot, for the life of me, how you guys change the button layout and actually play!! I tried it and I'm constantly pushing the wrong one!! Maybe someday I'll figure it out.

Thanks for going over everything, had no clue the controller was strictly wired but Im 100% okay with that, I prefer it honestly, switching batteries is a hassle.
i would pay $80 max
I hear ya
Dont even own an xbox but your dumb, a standard xbox controller is 50-60 and this comes with alot of features, now the pricetag on this is crazy and overpriced but think of it like a mechanical keyboard or gaming mouse, you pay for what you get
Baker The Bradley I would spend 80$ max key word (I) its my option to spend more then that if I want. i dont need all the fancy bells and whistles I just need it to work.
respectable, but remember there are people that spend that type of money and this is who the product is geared to, ya catch my drift
I'd go $100, but yeah, $150 is borderline outrageous.
"Welcome to the cult of Razer"
Sounds about right
Another negative is the cable port is proprietary. Make sure you get the warranty. If the cable faults, you can exchange for a brand new controller
I love Razer and prefer a wired setup, so this sounds perfect for me.
I use one every day. I love mine. Although I’m starting to wear out my LB since that is probably the button I use the most. I will probably buy another one when I have to.
Those your l stick still work with heavy use? No drift
Jack Ness I haven’t had any issues with the thumb sticks. But if that happens you can adjust stick drift in a game.
Are you having any problem with it or have you stopped using it lol... I’m thinking about getting one and I’m not sure yet...
what deal damn holyy i'm pumped to get one.
David Ly dude i just bought one its fahking sick dude go buy one now if u havent
Wireless = lag
10ft for the cable is the enough length for my living room
That’s pretty damn small then

Holy shit. This could change the eSports scene so much. I would if it will be legal
It is, everyone who plays comp games on console either uses a scuf or some other sort of controller with paddles/buttons on the back. MLG and many other companies who host events allow them.
I don’t get why people use controllers in eSports

Great video
Love extra bumper buttons plus the paddle buttons look a lot more out the way
Great video and quality! I liked and subscribed
I like the heavy weight of my elite, makes it feel high quality
Elite controllers are dog shit though. I had one break by way of left thumbstick dying. The headohone jack was also messed up. I bought a new one, same issues are starting up again, left thimbstick has drift and headphone jack is messed up. Right bumber is giving out, upper left paddle is completely dead. Then bought the razer wolverine, please for the love of god switch to it. Actual quality
"feel"
Dont even care about the controller now... Saw the eagles shirt and im sold! #Wentzylvania. But forreal, nice in depth review man! Glad someone takes the time to give an honest unbiased review.
I just love how the the d-pad buttons are separated. Whenever I play with the original Xbox One Controller on my PC, I find that the buttons tend to malfunction sometimes. Especially in games like Rocket League where I use the d-pad a lot. Although I'm pretty sure that's just my controller getting old :p
You have a very good clear voice and presenting style sir. Top notch review keep it up.
The rgb on the razer is soooooo attention grabbing, rgb catches me like when I smell food.

Valpo Desidero Montoya if you want to go pro in gaming you dont play on console, its going to be on pc
Geeknoid ill be honest, there is a SLIGHT hint of latency, but it isnt too noticeable. Unless you are a “pro gamer” you really cant tell a difference
"casual couch peasants" you mean average gamers who dont commit their lives to games like social awkward people like you?...
Jay Turner yeah but only at shooter games; in games like rocket league or madden you better have a controller to be good
competitive/professional players use mouse and keyboard
This is better than the Elite in my opinion.
I agree
Yea
I have both and definitely agree
Not opinion lol literally facts
razer has mechanical buttons , hence the clicking sound, and they arent sitting on rubber like all of xboxs controllers
JakeyAirplane how is the build quality ? Do the buttons hold up? I read somewhere that the buttons get sticky or unresponsive over time.
There was someone trying to sell this controller for $1,107
Thats and overpay
i was considering getting this, but when i heard it didnt have that satisfying weighted feeling, i immediately knew i’d stick with my elite controller
Great review, thanks. I don't mind the wired aspect, I play fighting games where it helps also. I have an elite controller but has stick drift and at a cost of $100 to ship it off to a third party to repair I might as well pay the bit extra and buy one of these.
“M3, M4, M5, M5”

Great for flying as well. I have an XONE Elite, and I had to adjust the sensitivity on the thumbsticks so I wouldn't overshoot in SWBF.

@@Lastchancepanda yea i do but it definetly wasnt worth the money. Id recommend the cheaper version

Its pretty sick i have one you can do any colour u can do waves a rainbow or 2 colour changes
It's pretty smart for Razor to market this to the XBox One. A large majority of PC gamers prefer mouse and keyboard.
Wait so should I get it it’s on sale for 120 now and that’s all I have so should I get it or no? all my other controllers are broken.
Is this better than elite?
Game Start Xbox easily
Yes. By far
It is the true Xbox elite
What if Razer made a RGB controller for the switch
Who knows? 👌
It's basically the Razer Raiju for Xbox/Windows. Razer Raiju is definitely one of the best controllers i have ever used.
Best controller that I've purchased and I've brought all the controllers scuf, elite etc.
Blu3ManiC Console players do though
Jayden O that’s because it’s console
Blu3ManiC It's a little different when you have a wide open space between you and your TV. Wires can be a pain when you have pets, kids, or drunk and generally careless friends.
Oh yeah. I had a drunk friend trip over my 360 wired controller and spill beer on my floor. Wired and wireless have their pros and cons.

Can you put kontrol freaks on them?
Ya but not a good Idea. I tried and it messes up your dpi and is hard to contour to. Your choice tho!
Installs the taller stick on the left... 😒.. dur.
That's where I put mine. I use the left stick to aim.

fictiondic I literally almost wore that same shirt today but opted for my Ertz shirt instead! Would've been hilarious to randomly watch a video and see a guy wearing the same shirt. Super Bowl champs!
7 months later, just as flimsy as an elite controller, a b x y buttons start to stick and so does the dpad, wouldn’t recommend
Wireless? Horrible, I hate Wireless. Changing Batteries...
Wired? Amazing, No changing batteries! Wires, Keep it tidey.
And no input lag

I those dislikes where from gaystation controllers
DankLordThomasTheTrain controllers can dislike videos?!?!?!?
People are complaining about the price when theres the tournament edition that is 40$ cheaper and has almost the exact features excluding the control pad at the bottom of the controller.
I am totally happy with mine. Best controller I ever had.
Have this controller and love it, wish the dpad was more like the default one though. That one tends to work a lot better with fighting games.
Just so u guys know in 2020 the app is different its called razer wolferine for Xbox

Dlaczego? You realize 150 american IS 230 australian, right? It's not cheaper it's just displayed differently.
