That is outright remarkable! Also if you're wondering why Nas references someone as 'God', it's from his 5 Percenter admiration. This is why you see Nas executive producing documentaries on Supreme Team which was built off of 5 Percenter teachings.
That reminds me a lot of when I first heard the Roc La Familia album when I was 10. I always skipped the Intro, but now that I understand it, it's one of the best intros to an album I've ever heard. Thanks for your input and sparking memories of mine
Nas is the most cinematic rapper of all time. He'll have you in the middle of a scene in his first two bars; sometimes he'll do it in the middle of a verse
This song I listened to and made me realize nas was the greatest story teller in hip-hop ever hands down a lot of others come very close but this song was the topping point. Plus I first listened to it and turned my friends on to it. Thank you nas for helping shape me into the man I am now.
Hearing Rewind for the first time years ago got me all like "Ain't no way he just casually flexed his storytelling capabilities like that while flowing on the track like it's nothing"
For me I Gave You Power is #1 because of the storytelling plus using personification, then Rewind, and probably Undying Love. But Nas also has Small World, Shootouts, Fetus, Get Down, Sekou's Story, just so many dope storytelling songs!

I’ve always liked Shootouts on It Was Written. It’s not unique at all in the sense of content or the topic but the rhymes were lethal and the best banged
streets disciple gotta be one of the more overlooked albums in nas discography like take a moment genuinely made me shed a tear because of the line “mommy im still here, i wish i was dead with you” i had to double back that it was so powerful to me
What’s wild is Nas admitted he made Rewind in summ like 20mins as a throwaway song cos he needed a filler for the album. How wild is this?! And it became a forever classic in his discography.
Nas has unrivaled penmanship all the works mentioned in the comments are top tier. I didn't see any mention of 'drunk by myself' or Project windows' which are also outstanding literal works of art giving the listener vivid insights to Nas's experience both 1st hand and borrowed.
@@tdsnuggzHas some skips with Stillmatic. Smokin, braveheart party, rule, & my country. I dislike the production and Nas too me still didn’t have range of styles because of the redundant flows and delivery.
I GAVE YOU POWER IS THE GREATEST STORY TELLING SONG EVERE! The beat, each verses building up to the ending keeps the listeners locked. Nas metaphorically narration as gun living through a harsh life is beyond brilliant. Especially if you can relate your life to the perspective of a guns life.
Man this channel... I say this alot but this is great and i look forward to these videos. So much hiphop content in youtube is so shallow and boring and sometimes outright dumb and wrong. This is refreshing.
I really appreciate this Travis, and also appreciate you still rocking with me 🤙🏾 I try to cover obscure topics that fly under the radar and feel like I have an infinite amount of ideas with relation to hip hop

TDS i think rewind is one that needs to be listened to atleast twice. Once for the story and again for the rymes and word play. "Dog whatever they call you God just listen"
Even thought Nas had some duds in hia diacography, every album is worth listening to if only for the lyrical brilliance. Nas is hands down the greatest rapper in my opinion.
@@marcuskennedy7357you gotta relisten to Gkmc then, cuz that’s easily his best story telling album, and maybe even best album period. Top 3 rap album all time for me, and it ain’t 3
I do think Nas is the best storyteller MC in all of hip hop history. But I personally think “One love” is the rawest. It lacks some of the lyrical sophistication of his later work, but when he says - after he basically says yeah shit hasn’t changed since you went in and it won’t and none of it is good - “the crackheads is stalking, loud mouths is talking. Yo, check out the story…” yada yada, and then later says “so stay civilized, time flies, though incarcerated your mind dies, I hate it when your mom cries. It kinda makes me wanna murder.” That’s maybe the rawest lyric I’ve ever heard in any song. It makes me half tear up still.
Nas is my favorite rapper of all time. When we were shorties, a close friend of mine was family to King Sun. He was in the studio with Nas. We had dubs of Illmatic way before the release date. The whole city did. That album was heavily bootlegged. My lady lives in the Bridge. I spend a lot of time in QB, Ravenswood and Astoria. Nas been real quiet. My favorite rapper is on a Diddy tape. Smh. A couple with C Chris Webber, too. Everything done in the dark comes to the light. Smh. A goddamn shame this world we are currently living in.
TDS, Wonderful video, the references and analysis, this is inspiring! I gotta ask, your analysis & weaving of historical references is insane, how do you do it man? Every video is insanely, I look at rap so differently after every video.

Spit a story back from the ending
Nas might not be in everyone's Top 3, but if he ain't in your Top 10, I have serious doubts about how much hip-hop you have listened to.
hip-hop evolved 2 much to the point ppl who listen to hip-hop wont listen to hip-hop because its in another sub genre of hip-hop
