Believe it or not, it’s somehow even WORSE in Korea. But y’all are 100000% right. Also BTS were complete BADASSES for saying this and coming out speaking against the older generation and society. In Korea that’s typically seen as incredibly disrespectful but they have always said they wanted to be the voice of our generation.
The reason I love them!!!
thats why BTS is different than the rest
Thank you guys for this reaction! I recommend watching the DKDKTV explain video as well as the dance practice for it(It's fun because they're doing the choreo, but also messing around)!💜
YESSSSSS
Yes please 💜🤗 this is the song that hooked me into BTS and the dance practice is one of my favs! Thank you for reacting and glad it resonated with you too!
Also, the dance too. I feel like the choreography is half the song.
So "뱁새 / baepsae" actually means crow-tit! It's a type of small bird with short legs. There's a saying in Korea, "If a crow-tit tries to walk like a stork, it will break its legs." Essentially, it's a mixture of saying, "don't try to be something you're not" and "don't try to act like you're from a higher class/status of society than you are." At the time, in 2015, BTS hadn't hit it big. They were underdogs; BigHit was close to bankruptcy and BTS were looked down upon in the industry. They did start gaining traction with I Need U and Fire soon after, but they were very much seen as "try-hards" and "posers" before that. But they didn't let that stop them. That's why the English translation for this is Try-Hard or Silver Spoon.
👆👆I hope they see this *before watching the live,* since the choreo is very related to this point. 👆👆
Exactly!
I knew you were smart from kenma's picture
It's okay to talk or complain about the "expectations" and how adults keeps on saying "try harder". That's the point of the song~ I'm glad you guys can relate to it. 😊💜
YASSSS, yall gotta do the live performance and the dance practice of this lol😅 and yes you pronounced it correct hahah
Yeeeees!!!!
Definitely!
damn you need to react to more live concerts, the energy is so fuckin insane
I’m waiting for that day to happen 😭 I don’t think they’ve seen a live BTS performance yet and they are definitely missing out. Hopefully they do the Baepsae+fire+run medley, that one is a perfect example of what their concerts are like
This song is legendary for army, the rhythm, the energy that the boys handle every time they present it is impressive ☺☺
This is one of my favorite songs from BTS! It's a satire addressing a very serious problem! Korea has the highest suicide rate among teens. Also, culturally speaking, speaking in this manner is highly discouraged and BTS was very courageous to write this song especially as idols where they are expected to be perfect. I love the irony between the playful music and dance with the lyrics, you'll see it once you watch the dance practice. Also, don't miss out on DKDTV'S explanation of this video.
You guys should watch their dance practices. It's sick. And it's true about what's going on with living. It's starting to get a little harder. So it's like our generation has to think outside the box.
Yes! They are amazing dancers. I'd love to see you react to dance practices. And more live performance. It is a experience that every ARMY should have. Borahae!
This is why BTS is so relatable. This is def one of the songs that resonates the most for me.
a very relevant song... it was risky for bts to do this song especially being "idols." a shot at the older generation and the korean culture as a whole. it'd be great if you watch the explanation vid by dkdktv. it is truly relatable on a global scale but wonderful to understand it from bts' eyes in their own culture.
BTS is coming to Las Vegas this April 8, 9, 15 & 16. It's a 4 night concert. I hope you guys can catch them up.
Everything you guys said is right but you also have to understand that they are Korean and South Korean society is quite different from western culture. The youth in South Korea are burdened with an incredible amount of pressure to succeed by just about everyone in society but in particular by their parents. I think too many people there have lived their lives as they thought was expected of them rather then living their own dreams. BTS has become a mouth piece for the younger generation through their music, both by confronting the tole on mental health that this type of pressure causes and lifting up the youth by teaching them how to believe in themselves, just just believe in themselves but to love themselves, to let go of the expectations, to chose your own path, to live your life for yourself, to believe in yourself. One of the things I rarely hear people talk about is how, on many levels, BTS are teachers and have been since the beginning with N.O. Great reaction gents!
Awww man, the dance practice is better
This is one of my favorite BTS songs, from the choreo to the meaning.
Oh great video guys!! I think you could watch the DKDKTV explained video as well and react to the dance practice or live performance too.
DKDKTV also has an explanation for this song.. You should check that out.. By the way I always watch and love your reaction.
I really suggest you guys watch DKDK tv's explanation video.. you are right about the meaning of the song but the explanation video will give you an insight of what it's like in Korea.. and if you can watch the dance practice, the choreo portrays the song well in a way and the live performance is just lit!!
Nooooooo 🤩🤩🤩 you guys should react to Baepsae dance pratice & live performance
RM has written this track, and one thing with him is he will make a loded message bop
You guys being THE men with open minds and intellectual understanding is just making me respect you guys even more... Thanks for digging into this song, it's definitely one of my fave earlier BTS tracks. 👏🏻🙌🏻💜
Baepsae, name of bird(very small, sort leg)has to try much harder than Hwangsae, big bird(gold spoon).
Sorry my bad English!
You boys are so smart and so good at understanding the deeper meanings with BTS music..even without any explanations..you get it..💜💜
Ahhhh react to a Live performance pleaseeee!!
The live concert is Army favourite performance
the dance practice is really fun too hehe
I also recommend the live performance of this.
It's almost criminal not to watch the dance practice for this and the Live where Jhope sends Armys to their graves! Haha 😆💜
jimin's notes are just freaking incredible here
Baepsae a true banger 🔥
I agree with most of what ya'll said. I had a BA in Nursing and worked almost 10yrs doing what I loved. My daughter is half my age and when she started at the museum, in culinary department, she started at 14$ per hour. That was my starting pay right out of Nursing school with my BA. Things are definitely complicated these days. Rent and bills are definitely harder to pay. God Bless
I was getting ready for college and then I saw the notification and came here to watch the video 😂😂
Ooooh y’all are missing a nice bit of the cultural nuance of the meaning of “Baepsae” because it does not translate to “try hard”. Baepsae is the Korean term for a bird called a crow tit from the proverb “Baepsaega hwangsae geoleumeul geoleumyeon garangi ga jjijeojinda” or “If a crow-tit walks like a stork, it will break its legs”. I can understand why the translator used “try hard”, because they’re not about to do a whole explanation of the proverb and what it means in modern society to South Korean millennials and Gen Zs, but the translation is only scratching the surface of just how bold af and thoughtfully written this song is. BTS made the kind of socially critical songs other K-pop idol groups wouldn’t dare to pen or had the freedom to. As others have probably pointed out by now, DKDKTV does a really good explanation of the song as a whole, especially some of the other wordplay that gets lost in translation. I would definitely suggest you check it out!
dance practice please
Hello guys, I would recommend you to see BTS - Baepsae (뱁새/Crow Tit) by a Korean. BTS usually uses many analogies, puns, and certain types of language that for us as non-Korean speakers we don't understand and are difficult to transcribe verbatim into other languages... this song is no exception as it has a lot of this.
“Explained by DKDKTV” love their explanation
I laughed so hard at the idea that this song goes less hard…😂😂😂 I think you need to see it live. Just sayin’…
This. 👆👆👆👆👆💯💯💯💯💯💯🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You guys are spot on, would love to see you react to both the dance practice and the DKDKTV explanation, not because you dont understand the concept because clearly you do, just to show you the korean references and expressions in the song.
BAEPSAE Live Always Awesome! … yeah, the Explained.. thx for appreciating it! #BTS💥
The live version for this song is even better
ddaeng vocal line x rap line please

Hi guys I like a lot of your videos!!! congratulations
the RWJ quote “i had to walk to school uphill both ways” LMFAOOOOOOOOOO
You should watch the live performance for this
It’s sick !
You need to watch that live it’s insane
You should watch it Bapsae stage mix compilation. The edit was so good. You may watch to check their dance practice video of Bapsae so you can see the complete dance and appreciate the choreography as well. Thanks
BTS lyrics & all so meaningful. They’re such a inspiration.
This song is legendary for Armys.
Hope you follow up with dance practice and DKDK Korean explained video. This is one of their most pollical song.
thank you for the reaction!!
Check out DKDKTV they have an "explained" video that dives into the Korean cultural side of this. And you're right this is a worldwide problem now. I'm a baby Boomer and even I know that some of my peers are full of it. A lot of things are out of reach for the younger generations. Baepsae is a small bird with short legs (Crow-tit)
It has more meaning in korea bcs is basically a very classist and materialistic society and this type issues are maximized, some other countries are more about "fuck it" but young coreans are under even more pressure in that sense bcs the current mindset there is very rooted to ancestral traditions so its just how their culture works
the DKDKTV explanation neeext!!
the dance practice and Live performance MUST watch!!!!!
Man I miss the early BTS... Much more my music style. Shit hit hard when RapMonster and HipHop was the majority of influence
i swear yall should react to the dance practise ver or the concert😭😭 ... they got me hyped up 🤞🏻😚
They don't know what the world is really like!
You guys should check out their live performances. Trust me there are amazing.
Thanks for your great reactions.
If Ivy League tuition actually matched with the value of the dollar and inflation, Harvard would only cost $8.5K a year. I'm part of Gen-X, and we had to let go of a lot. Many of us never finished college because doing what our parents did - working and going to school- just wasn't doable. Tuition or rent became a real choice.
This is my ringtone
You definitely need to watch the live performance.
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Gotta watch their LIVE performance too!!! 😁💜
This song 🔥💜💜💜
You guys definitely got the gist of the song, lol, but I would still really recommend the dkdktv explanation for s more nuanced breakdown.
Hello, the interpretation of the stork in the Korean context speaks of the upper class or privileged class that lived through the best economic times in the country. The silver spoon supports this symbolism, as wealthy people with the means to stay on top socially and economically tend to simplify the world order through "effort." The beapsae is a small black bird endemic to Korea and has short legs. Bangtan in the song makes a harsh criticism of the Korean (and world) neoliberal ideology of the law of effort, merit and work. In Korea, young people are put under a lot of pressure to access the best universities, since that in theory ensures a good job and a certain stability for their lives, however the competition is incredibly difficult due to corruption, sexism, misogyny and difference of opportunities. Bangtan talks about this also in Dope, not today, no more dream, N.O, spine breaker, Jump, never mind, am i wrong, lost, go go and in his solo projects as well.
Still one of my favorite songs, a great message and an even doper beat!
I can recall my grandfather saying "at your age, I had already bought my first car ((a mustang F-1 truck of 1947 or something like that!))...yeah! But back then they were like $30 each!!! I don't know!!! It depends!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 But that was funny!!! Thank you guys!!!! 💜💜💜💜💜
Have you watch the explanation video of this song
i love your reactions
I enjoy the discussion guys, thanks
Dance practice Bapsae is great great great! Watch it as soon as you can 😄😄💜
So in order to perform this live they must have to change some lyrics to fit in tv audience same as DOPE's.

Loved this reaction; very relatable. Also, please watch a live performance (maybe a stage mix).
P.S. particularly love your BTS reactions, but you make me wait far too long for each one, lol. 🥺🤧😭
Guys, watch a live performance with BAEPSAE - get even more impressions!!
so happy for this reaction and that y'all did get what they were talking about even if there are some differences between Korea and Western society. It would be very cool if y'all reacted to a live performance of this song, is soooo good!
You should totally react to this live!!! You won't be disappointed 👍😁
Ps. I like your videos a lot 🖤
I agree with others you need the explanation video dkdktv. Love your reactions and you are spot on, but there is more. This is one of my favorite songs and the dance is amazing (not just hip thrusts), but their movements are birdlike. I dislike the color coded lyrics because the translations are off (they are close but language does matter)
Baepsae means crow-tit a teeny little fluffy white bird. It just hits differently than try-hard. I hope you will check out the dkdktv video. 😘💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I paid for college too. It was really hard. I had a part-time job or two jobs!
I want you to react to live stages. Their stage presence is insane & their performance is one of a kind
Hope u do the explanation... and DAMN y'all can't wait 1 sec until the video ENDS...?

Always waiting for your reaction to BTS
DKDKTV has done an explanation video of this one, if you want to react to it : ua-cam.com/video/RP4Qbh2rXFU/v-deo.html
The generation that's give up is much more than that in Korea. They have name fore the different level of "giving up" (sorry, I don't really know how to say it in english). But basically, the young korean, because of the economic siutation, social pressure and all, will be called :
-Sampo generation (three giving-up generation) for those who renounce to have relationships, marriage and children.
-Opo (five give-up generation) plus the three above, they renounce to employment and home ownership
-Chilpo (seven) with the five first one, these ones renounce to interpersonal relationships and hope.
-Gupo (nine) renounce to their health and their physical appearence
-Sippo or Wando (Ten giving-up generation or complete giving-up generation) at the end, they give-up their own life..
You should watch the live version!
this is just my thought but, the whole "you have it all easy now, back in my days I had to blah blah blah..." like isn't that the point? to have the next generation not to experience the hardship we experience? or at least not as hard as we experienced it?
kindly react to their dance practice its more fun.
3:42 it’s funny cause I grew up in Manila but I hear the same thing from my parents.
You need to watch a live performance.
