- Joel McDonald from Canadian Kawasaki Motors joins us at Dirt Trax World Headquarters and brought along a Teryx KRX 1000 and the all-new KX450X (formerly KX450XC) to show us some of what Kawasaki has to offer on both 2 and 4 wheels. Then Luke leads him out on the trails in the KRX 1000 to challenge Joel riding the KX450X to really see just what this all-new cross-country motorcycle can handle.

I'm 52 years old, & I started out on a Kawi when I was 7 years old. Since then, I've owned 19 Kawies. Street & dirt. No side by sides. yet. I'm too young for those.
Kawi is makin some good stuff these days. would like to see more with the brute force 750. make a snorkelled mud edition, fancy suspension edition etc. All with bigger more powerful V twin. but keep it light unlike the competition.
Something about Luke on two wheels makes me want to join the party!!! Super fun video!
Thanks!!
Dirt Trax TV I agree ☝🏻
I love that they don't use any mapping crap. The power is still the same on both models.
nice to see a two wheel off-road vehicle. I grew up on bikes...then to 3-wheeler ATC, then to ATV 4-wheelers. Glad the market still has space for the 2-wheelers... haha Merci
If kawi really wanted to get into the xc/enduro market, a modernized kdx 200 would be a hot commodity. A new line of kdx 2 strokes would out sell the 250/450 xc models I'd say, but I doubt kawi is interested in the xc/enduro market to put out such a bike😣
Imagine a KDX 300. 🤤
Keep the two wheels testing going!
Congrats Kawasaki!!!
Woods riding is really catching on.
It's the best
It needs a headlight and tail light, or make the KLX450 available stateside.
si
Gimme a KLR 450x, then we're talkin'.
Nice video like always thanks 👍 👌
If take two over four any day. Go anywhere!
Still waiting for a KDX 300 with electric start & hydraulic clutch.............sigh !!!
Cable and kickstart all day!
@trav3510 trav3510 Yeah, that's true. Personal preference at the end of the day and we loves bikes all the same! But I'll take the more mechanical setup.
@trav3510 trav3510 Yeah, so true!
This would be badass.
Buddy just bought a 2022 kx250x, such a nice bike kinda makes me want this lmao
Kawasaki please make this bike in a street legal version with as little restrictions as possible.
I want a supermoto version too!!
@@big10hunter42 just register your kx450 in South Dakota and they’ll send you a plate without having to live in SD. Add lighting and you’re legal. Did it to my kx450 years ago.
Put a headlight and tailight on it so we can plate it. If you can't do at least that much, it won't sell.
It could have been a very nice dual sport)
Like a exc
Yeah I agree 1000000%
Evolution is a lie. Call it adapting. Awesome machines👍
Bro great vid . . jw. Is the 450xc. The same power has a. Kx450.. Or ? U know how kx bikes are.. Is there a difference ... xc to kx.
PLEASE do more dirt bike reviews
Enjoy all your videos thank you for the updates I am a side by side person rzr 570
Give me a break I’m 50 and still ride a yz 250 2 stroke u can have those utvs
I drive my truck every day so I don’t see the point in riding 4 wheelers out in the woods to.
Don't be fooled by the X / XC stickers, it's still 95% a high strung motocross race bike, less than ideal for recreational trail riding with it's tall 1st gear close-ratio gearbox and small fuel tank. Without an electric cooling fan and coolant recovery tank, stop and go style trail riding will have this overheating / boiling over pretty quick.
I don’t like dirt bikes with radiators, they seam like they would overheat a lot.
I hope you’re joking 😂
@Joshua Floisand No
Some have fans
Same size fuel tank as on the KX250x. On the KX250x the tiny fuel tank can take you around the block 1.5 times. On the KX450x it can take almost around the block once. Ridiculous.
Don’t try marketing this to sxs owners.... that’s not your market, this bike is made for desert and woods racers.
I can't help but laugh at these so called 4 stroke trail bikes from yamaha and kawi. They are fine in open trails, but they really show their shortcomings in tight single track. Not to mention that they overheat all the time. With the money you have to sink into them to make them good and competitive, you are better off buying a European xc bike.
@MotoMatt I have been saying the same thing for years. I have never understood why most of the Japanese manufacturers discontinued 2 strokes.
2 strokes are an emissions nightmare that’s why they got away from it. That, and the on coming rider isn’t comfortable with tossing a top end on a bike every 50hrs or so let alone mixing their own gas 🙄. 2 strokes will never die, but the market is small and emissions regulations will continue to get more and more strict so new 2 strokes mat not be in the long future. Who knows though, efi tech is getting better and better even on the 2 smokers so maybe they’ll be able to figure it out for us guys who like to braap it up.
@@nathanpanter4625 pretty much agree with everything ur saying, but 50hrs out of a top end is kind of sad on a 2 stroke. I average 150-200hrs on my 2 stroke top ends.
matt dyer just tossing a number. When I rode I think I got about 100hrs on mine but that was riding an Mx bike on the trail, not really designed for longevity. Even ktm recommends “40hrs” but that’s just a recommendation. Even at 100hrs that’s not bad considering most people probably average MAYBE 10 a month, so a rebuild a year isn’t horrendous (for most of us anyway) but people like that 4 strokes can go years before needing opened up (if trail riding that is).
MotoMatt ya California is the biggest issue on anything motorized. Personally not a fan of the state since most modifications aren’t technically “legal” there. If it has an engine and tires I’m into it, and sadly for those that are the same way in Cali can’t do nearly the same things that we can in pretty much any other state especially when it comes to the Offroad market (trucks/jeeps, Mx/atv and SXS). Beautiful trails out that way though. Living in the Midwest has spoiled me when it comes to any sort of Off-roading. Rocks, mud and sand are all within a few hours but obviously when it comes to rocks we of coarse don’t have Moab or the rubicon and hardly any public land to wheel on (unless you’re in Michigan that is).
So it’s basically just the KX with shorter gears. And a smaller rear wheel.
Probably has softer suspension and bigger tank too.
@@larrynorsworthy8582 Look it up it has 1.6 gallon tank just like the racing model. And you can always set your clickers all the way out to soft.
@@SD-ir1vf the yamaha dealer said as soon as they get the woods racers in they sell. Sx models, not selling as well.
@@larrynorsworthy8582 The shorter gearing helps going slower on single track without clutch work. But people don’t look on internet for woods racer they look for trail bike. So it has to actually come out before people know about it.
@corn pop I doubt that it feels all that much different than the race model. The only difference in this bike is if you change the mapping. I have read that adding a Fly wheel weight doesn’t change the bike that much.
I dont get why bikes are so expensive for that kinda money I would just buy a side by side
What do u mean side by sides are way more expensive
@@connorklevesahl7846 I buy on the used market, so a side by side from the past can get the job done for me for an equivalent price.
Trent White we’re talking bout new machines
@@connorklevesahl7846 when I bought my teryx4 brand new they had a base model two seater for 9000k brand new in the crate when you buy a bike you get a motor and two wheels I just dont see how its worth it but that's just my opinion
Anthony Tipsword ya 2 wheels are more fun than 4 can do way more things off-road
when are they gonna update the brute force? you must of asked him lol
Is it fuel injected?
Yes
The Japanese bikes will never be prominent in the off road market until they spend the money to compete with the European bikes by having strong two stroke off road models. The 4 strokes don’t hold any water in a hard enduro setting
Still doesn’t even come close to the ktm 450 xcf fit finish and build quality
Have to be careful not to get carried on the throttle.
Young guy who looks old or old guy who looks young?
I was hoping for a serious review. This is more of a commercial.
We take great pride in the fact that our opinions, and subsequently, our reviews are based on decades of experience and expertise. I dont have enough experience with dirt bikes to give a full review that would be credible. So for this one, we just stuck to talking about what it is and how it felt. I hope it was still interesting and fun to watch.
Not interested in dirt bikes me and my friends watch this channel for atv’s and utv action
Good thing we produce so much content so you have lots of other videos to choose from.

you know its KX450XC right? lol
Right at the beginning of this month (after this segment was shot) we were informed Kawi dropped the "C" and rebranded it as the KX450X and KX250X. You can confirm on the website.
Dirt Trax TV my bad guys. I guess since the release I haven’t looked again other than dealerships which still have them as XC lol
No problem. Thought it was kind of a weird change. They had all the decals as XC on the bike and then last minute changed it up.
With less places to ride all the time it needs a plate on it.
Needs bigger tank and headlights!
