Someone's probably already mentioned this but Heartstopper(both the show and the comics it was based on) was written by Alice Oseman, who is queer! 🍂 🌈
Edit: y'all Heartstopper has been renewed for TWO MORE SEASONS🥳💕💕

alice oseman (writer of heartstopper) is actually aro/ace and uses she/they pronouns. very queer and based off of her own experiences!!

Hey!! So Heartstopper actually was written by a queer person, the author is not a straight white woman. It’s based off of a webcomic that became a book, and the same person who wrote the books wrote the script for the show. Just think it’s really important to mention!!

Its super cool to hear that Heartstopper was actually written by a queer person, esp one who uses she/they pronouns. One of the few comment sections on youtube thats pleasant to read more often than not

  • @ananunes273

Alice Oseman is not a “straight white woman”. I know that sometimes they talk about stuff on the podcast that they didn’t plan to talk about, so obviously they can get things wrong (nobody needs or has the capability to know everything) - but it would be nice to have a little note on the side when they do get things wrong, just as an acknowledgment.
I remember seeing something similar on the guys’ pod where they talked about Harry Styles and they said he was straight, while he never said he was and constantly talks about not wanting to label himself. They just assumed he was straight because he never said otherwise, which as I’m sure they know, it not correct… being straight is not the “default” sexuality.
Anyway, I know the Try crew is very aware of these things, but I feel like we could all do a bit better sometimes, and this is an improvement I would like to see.
Love the podcasts and all of you guys! Hope you’re all safe and doing well

I know a lot of people already commented this but I’m just gonna add - the writer of Hearstopper isn’t actually a straight woman, they are aromantic and asexual and uses she/they pronouns. I had the same assumption as Eugene until I said something to one of my best friends about how I was annoyed about it (I’ve had books in the past that I loved and then found it they were either wlw stories written by straight men or mlm stories written by straight women that have semi-ruined it for me) but they (my friend) corrected me and told me that Alice Oseman is queer which is exciting because that means its a queer love story written by a queer person that was turned into a Netflix TV show which makes me happy. Anyway, I understand the confusion and hope someone tells Eugene and hopefully it brings him joy.

I'm loving seeing all the comments from everyone stating the writer of Heartstopper is part of the queer community. I have never heard of the show or the creator but to see so many people open about INCLUDING aces in the queer community is amazing. I feel they should be included but being ace myself, I've seen some really hurtful things from others within the queer community saying we aces don't belong.

Right?? I was so glad to see it too! It's very refreshing :) And if you're ever in need of something to read I recommend checking out Loveless by Alice Oseman (creator of Heartstopper), it's a really good coming of age story witih an aroace protag, it's also how I first heard about Alice.

Thank you so for the kind words. It took me a long time to realize that nothing was actually "wrong" with me and that I'm just a heteroromatic asexual. I just recently learned that asexuality is a broad spectrum and that me thinking I was asexual when I was a teen (long time ago) was actually correct. I felt SOOOOOO out of place. Still do because I feel like I can't talk to anyone about this.
I feel so loved. Thank you!

Matt made me think of being in Spain when he talked about Lays chips with a cocktail. any bar in Spain will automatically give you bar snacks for free at your table or whatever, and usually it's a bowl of regular Lays chips (sometimes with shaved jamon on top of the chips), and that was my every night in Madrid, white wine and some chips, a perfect evening.

@@madnessqueen yeah 100%. I also think it’s perfectly fine to not watch trendy shows or watch them when you feel like it vs when it came out… there’s so much out there and I personally don’t prioritize what’s trending. I know Becky is super tuned into pop culture and loves shows and that’s great for her, but like be respectful of other peoples preferences. I like all of them but I will say that what I like about Ariel is she’ll never judge someone for a different preference or yuck someone’s yum. I feel like Becky can sometimes be a little judgmental and it bothers me when that happens. I also don’t get why they were dissing Matt’s chip preference lol though I know they’re friends and it’s just teasing. Like what you like! Lol

Unpop opinions: 1. Bay leaves are removed cause they are unpleasant to eat/chew. They don't exactly break down easily, but they add flavor. 2. Sounds like a cleanliness preference. I eat Cheetos with chop sticks cause I dont like the dust all over my fingers. 3. Appetizers are a waste of money most the time. They're always overpriced in my town. 4. Yeah, not really an opinion.

I literally can't imagine tomato soup or some of our cream sauces without bay leaves, they do add flavour.
Also, employment policies in the US seem to be harsh. In my country, when you are fired, you usually get a few months' notice (unless you are in a probation period, which usually takes a few months, or unless you do something exceptionally bad, then you don't get that luxury of course). Also, our law guarantees each employee four weeks of paid holiday and most employers add one week extra to that (a few even more). That being said, it doesn't mean at all that August is a no-work month. Most people are "rationing" their time off very carefully to be with their kids when school's off, or to distribute their time off evenly (a week in the spring, maybe two weeks in the summer, a week around Christmas, etc.). The situation is a little different in Scandinavian coutries where it is very common for people to be off for four or five weeks during summer, so maybe that's what you guys meant.

In most parts of the US, employers are not required to give any PTO. There are federal laws surrounding medical, family, or parental leave, but they are NOT required to pay a dime for any of it. Many workers in the US are lucky to get two weeks of paid vacation or sick time per year.

I work a corporate job and we get extra weeks the longer our tenure - I started with 4 week, but got an extra week after my 5 year anniversary. people with longer careers/higher positions get extra weeks off including mandatory time off.

Here's my take with cutleries on snacks.. During the pandemic I started using spoon/chopsticks when eating chips or bite sized snacks. I think it's more sanitary that way. Also, when I started having long nails. Eating chips with cutlery is practical. Just cause, for example, when I'm eating chips the powder/flavoring got stuck between my nails.. It's a bit disgusting. If you eat with cutleries you have none of those problems.

Fresh bay leaves are a different beast than the dried leaves. It is still subtle, but it accentuates other flavors.

My Husband and I always have food to take home or that goes unfinished. Even though he can eat way more than me, he still can't finish a normal American dish. We never get appetizers unless that's just my meal and never get dessert. Most of the time we find one huge meal that we both like and split it. But please make sure you tip as if you are tipping on two meals! We always make sure we do this. Sometimes they will even give us two plates and split it for us and it winds up as more food somehow. So please tip accordingly!

I still think it's weird that Americans call the main dish an entree, which literally means "to start" in french.
I always have a 5 week summer vacation. Our whole office shuts for july. I would not survive working in the States.

When I was a kid, my best friend’s mom would make cheese (probably velveeta) dip with ground beef in it and we would dip Doritos in it 🤤 I hadn’t thought about that in years!
