I did 2 windows with Frost King, this morning. Took me 90 minutes, by myself. Such a simple job. Took me that long, though. I have no DIY skills, obviously.
I am in the process of doing this right now! I have done this for years and it does keep the draft at a minimum. The plastic will still feel chilly but no air seeps through. I have never saved the plastic sheets to use over for the next year. I pull off and throw away and purchase again for the next winter.
I put my tape flat onto the window frame and the sheet of plastic on top of that. If you get too close to the window your nose might "boink" because it is that clear. Good luck! Happy winter..hahaha
FYI....you can skip to 2:45 to start the tutorial...90% of the stuff before that is just a commercial for the product and other products
getting ready to do this for the 1st time, evuh! I've watched a few of these tutorials. Yours is the most thorough and complete. My windowsill "cut and come again" salad garden will thank you. Thank you!
I like the music with the sound effects.
I love these kits and ALSO highly recommend using rope caulk -- the putty kind -- to really seal the deal (no pun intended).
Great tutorial 👍
Great video! And catchy tune too!
Wow. Her DIY job was so neat. Pretty sure mine will be a sloppy mess. Oh, well. Long as it works.
Frost King actually returned my call! I was told to put a piece of scotch tape on the tape backing and simply pull it back. Guess what! That made the tape itself come off. Went to the hardware store to buy some 3M tape, but of course they were out. Kid there discussed every tape they had and none were appropriate according to the info on the rolls. Store would not give me credit on the 4 pack I bought last year. Is it just me or is the customer always wrong nowadays?
I can hear it fine
This was so helpful, thanks!
I use to have to do this with old windows. I usually used 3M but couldn't find it one year and used Frost King. The plastic isn't as clear and the folds didn't always smooth out. Also, the tape wasn't as strong as 3M. Don't get Frost King if there is a choice available. Both brands, of course, are easy to install.
Really! I had no problems hearing what she said. But my video was jummpy
Very helpful the extra chit chat wasn’t giving
The adhesive strips suck. Expect to use some regular tape to go over the plastic to hold it to the window. Otherwise it's going to fall. They need to use better adhesive on the strips.
Yep, even if you clean the window with 2 degreasers and press as firmly as you can, the tape just bubbles in certain areas
I've gone through TWO of the premium patio door kits already because even though my application is neat with just a little "give" to allow for shrinkage, the tension from using the hairdryer to make the product shrink tight causes the film to pull the tape right off the frame. Yes, I degreased. Yes, it was warm enough. Yes, I let the tape sit (for 30-45 min actually because my kids are demanding when I'm busy). I even tried using the hair dryer on the covered tape while rubbing with a microfiber cloth to improve adhesion. Still lifts within an hour of applying.
Going to buy some 3m tape & try one last time with yet another new kit, but I'll now have to put a space heater near that window because it's too cold out now according to their directions..
I had a terrible time getting the backing off the tape. I will check out the utility blade method,
Me as well....
Not a single word can be heard, but the music is great!
Terry Menger hahahahah
I tried for almost an hour to open the folded film, even heated both corners. I purchased the premium cut to fit package, lots of windows. I finally gave up and it's doubled. Never had so much frustration with 3M.
In the winter my room smells like fire/burnt plastic
I have such a headache.
Only my room.
I have every window covered. My daughter has 2 but her room doesn't smell.
I'm wondering if the sun ONLY shines on my windows and thats why it smells burnt?
Thoughts?
I'm not really sure what to do about our blinds. We have wooden blinds in our apartment. They're not ours, so we can't take them down, nor would we anyway. I think I'll attach these sheets with the cords coming over the top on the windows we raise and lower the blinds. I could try putting it under them, but the surface is uneven on the edges, so I'm not sure how that would work. I've used these before without any issues, and even if there are small gaps at the top the amount of air escaping would be minimal compared to not using them at all.
i found it way more difficult to install than putting on a saran wrap. i'm not exactly a handy man but have done many DIY projects before. perhaps it's because my windows are large (~90' x 60') but I had to readjust several times and it's still not as tight as I would like - took me about an hour per window altogether. Also, while minor wrinkles went away with heat treatment, the original fold lines are still noticeable... 3/5 overall.
Dont have a hair dryer, so can I use a heat gun?
What about the patio door kit? Where do you attach the bottom?
I would apply the bottom to the solid track to help seal between the door and the track.
Too bad the adhesive removes your paint when you take it down in the spring, ask me how I know
you fine ash
Ahora en español, por favor 😅
I purchase extra two sided tape from Amazon. I have it on hand just in case I run out from the tape that comes in the package. I LOVE that I have it on hand.
I would recommend a second pair of hands. Get your spouse or a friend to help. Also yes all audio is perfectly fine, get off of dial-up already people! XD
Audio was great. You all need an internet upgrade.
The audio is HORRIBLE !
In the future NO music please!
Otherwise, decent tutorial.
The music is so distracting. I give up trying to follow directions.
I don't know how I peeled the backing off the tape last year. I know it was a real nuisance, but this year it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to separate. What a waste of time and money. There is no reason why a better quality tape that has a backing that actually does peel off is not used. This must be the cheapest quality they could find. Also, the plastic came off the window last year when I returned to the house months later. Not sure why I am even trying to do this, other than the PRICE of FUEL!!
Volume is fucked
This is getto as fuck
Nope it's old man summer who is losing his cool with the air conditioning. 😂
Y'all need to stop being chinzy and get a better internet package, mine is 600 mbp & my phone has 4 LTE unlimited data & tablet has a cheaper chip giving it a 3g network and they all 3 have perfect sound quality.
Marketing……….poor people seal their windows. So make sure your spokesmodel is dressed accordingly.
Blue jeans, bad hair and wearing dads old shirt.
Perfect !
Idk about being a poor thing…definitely an older house thing. It’s nice to be warm. 😂. Lots of houses just have too many windows for the winter
My gas bill tripled, so sealing the windows.
Just bought a roll of Frost King tape for window kit. Tape looks like double sided tape, but only one side is sticky. I’ve been doing this procedure every winter for 12 years so I know what double sided tape is.
Defective tape made in China, likely by political prisoners and sold to you by your friends at Canadian Tire
And they charge $6 for a tiny, useless roll.
Sad..
