Holy god I had to go back 11 years to find a good video! Good job yall!
That’s why it’s a classic. Glad you found us!
exactly!! over a decade ago. I googled videos to weatherstrip my cold house right now and this was the best one (and uncomplicated for rookies like me).
Aw shucks! Thanks, Laura, you just made our night.
I had to go back even further, thanks guys
If you only knew how many diagrams I've studied and internet searches I've done over the past few years... and your video is the help I needed. Now I know I've been applying weatherstripping to the wrong edge of the hinge side, among other mistakes. Count me in as a subscriber as of right now. Thank you, thank you!
Wow Donna, I’m so glad you found us too! Welcome to the club!
Thanks guys, this helped me out. I was worrying over nothing more than doing a job for the first time, but you showed how easy it was and gave me the confidence to go ahead. That's it now, job done for me. Many thanks.
You’re so welcome
@@HomePerformance ME too!! It was so easy and now my drafty doors are sealed UP. THX
Excellent Liz!

@@that_girl_2958Hey! I need to block cold hair smoke from outside too... How much did it cost? Do you remember! Thanks!😊
Thank you, guys. I was finally able to fix the massive air flow coming from my appartment door as well as the hallway light shinning through. It also dampened some of the noise from the foot traffic.
It's almost 2023 and you just helped another person (me!) learn how to do this the right way. Thank you so very much!
🙌🏽
First time home owner applying weather stripping for the first time; this was the most effective video I have seen on how to apply it. Thank you!
Currently 109 degrees here in Northern California. Needed to figure out how to insulate my apt front door. I found your video simple and to the point. Excellent info! Thank you!
Great to hear, happy it helped you Meka
This is an office episode
Okay as long as we are on the same page lol
😂😂😂😂
Omg
Why not a 'garage' episode ?

Thank you! It probably seems too simple to some people but for someone like me, this is very helpful. I don't know what new homeowners did before UA-cam if they didn't know anyone who was handy!
Thanks Perri, glad you found our channel
Thanks, your videos are clear and concise. I was able to get the plastic window cover up with only one failed try after seeing the instructional video of yours. Thanks for the help.
Gee. Sure wish videos were as easily accessible 20 years ago as they are on UA-cam today.
Boy, you made it look easy.
+INTJ- DmG thank you!!!
I need to do this to my inside door that leads to my balcony. This is the EXACT process I needed to see. Awesome video!
Great to hear, hope it goes well M!
this is one of the few clips I've found that doesn't drag on and was very helpful. Good stuff
Thanks man! Glad it helped you!
it did, I watched your clip whilst I installed the stripping, worked a treat. thanks again dude
Very helpful, simple and straight to the point. Thanks👍
You’re welcome! Thx for watching.
Yay! You show exacting where on the door jam to place the weather stripping!!! Thank you so much, 😃
Thank you. I had to watch quite a few indoor weather stripping videos to help with my issue and this was by far the best one. Thanks a bunch. Cheers!!!🍻
Hell yeah, great to hear Natalie! Oldie but a goodie I guess.
Thanks SO much! This works great for our exterior door, as we live in Western Oregon. I feel better about doing this myself, and knowing that I did it right. It seems simple now, but there are remnants of old weatherstripping (kind of covered with paint) in three different places on the doorway, NONE as described here !
OK, I admit it -- the most recent is mine. :)
Thank you so much for this video, you have definitely helped me. My 9 year old Daughter and i watched together and I am now confident that I'll be doing it right and she will be learning as well doing it with me. A little embarrassing that I had no idea how to do this at my age lol
Glad you found us, Angeline! Thanks for watching.
Thank you. This is exactly what I would need to do to my doors. You made it very simple and easy to follow. Thanks again.
So glad it helps, Allen!
I got a leaky front door on my home that seems to have gotten worse after our hot Las Vegas summer. And I’m looking for videos on how to fix it and they all don’t look quiete right. But low and behold my favorite people for air quality in my home have a video on just the thing. Love you guys ❤
Aw thanks Abe!
Thanks for putting the link to the inferred Leak Detector , really helpful !
Thank you! Doing this for all my doors this week.
It's alot easier than I thought. Thanks for sharing!
This was a big help. My son and I installed the weather strip to the outside door today. Thanks for posting.
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!
The information @3:14 where you place the seal along the hinge edge was exactly the thing I was looking for... Thanks for posting and leaving up.
Glad it helped buddy!
Thank you, this was so helpful - particularly the door hinge side. I had been putting the stripping on incorrectly!
Perfect video for what I needed, thanks!
So glad you found us, Jory
Extremely helpful!! I did not know there was adhesive door sweeper seals!
Straight and simple and a great guide
Thx Nigel
Thank you so much, this helps a lot. So easier to understand.
Great to hear, Josh.
Wow you two came a long way. Congratulations on your success.
HAHA thank you brother

What brand did you use?
Helpful and to the point. Thanks!

Cool video. Straight forward and to the point.

+GDazza155 so glad it helped! Thanks for the feedback!

Unfortunately due to the pandemic, our maintenance staff is limited, so DIY it is.... it came out perfect! No more light gaps and door sealed tightly 👍
Good job!

Glad to have helped you, Robin
Exactly what I was looking for. :))
Great!
I LOVE IT
THANK YOU
help a lot, thanks bud.
You’re very welcome
Is there reason not use wider strip on the hinge side ( not thicker, just wider )
How long does this type of seal last for doors that face indoors ( inside house on both sides )?
How long last for doors that face outside on one side & inside house on other side?
Thanks for sharing, appreciate it...
The weather striping currently on house has been there from the beginning & has been there for probably 10 to 20 yrs & has provided good seal & adhesive still good...
I wish I could find weather stripping originally installed...
It was thicker than what hardware stores have now & it was rubbery / like half side of small racing bicycle inner tube cut... So there's small dome facing door...
You guys rock
Aw thanks Joaquin
does this weather strip work around windows also? do you have a video on that?
This clip worths 3 or more Home Depot associates! They were useless to me! 👌
I know, right?!? Crazy. Glad you found us.
They wouldn't even be able to help you find the weatherstripping at Home Depot. 😆
This helped alot thank u
yeah buddy
Not a hard task, but I did it wrong last time so I needed some help. You don't quite show if you cut the weatherstripping at each corner, but it looks like you did. Thanks for the helpful video.
Thanks David, and yes, cut the corners so they’re square
Thank you.
👍🏽
I was wondering if this will reduce noise coming in and out as well? Say for an apartment leading to a noisy hallway.
+Jordan Iverson yes is the short answer, but there are a lot of other air leakage pathways that could transmit noise.
How thick was this weather stripping. 1/2" or 1/4"?
hpygolkyone hit the nail on the head, 3 yrs ago. This type of weatherstripping might be fine if you live in the south where it doesnt get cold. And as another one commented, wow such a thin door.
That's exactly right- most people completely misunderstand what's inside and what's outside in a home (builders included). The key thing would be to get a complete analysis of your building enclosure and know that this attic needs an exterior insulated door.
What is that device which u held to check the gap?
will this als0 help dampen the sounds of a slamming door?
So does the strips overlap the top corners?
thank you so much! this is exactly what I was looking for. just wish there was the names of the products on the description and were you can buy them. Merry 2020 Christmas.
Merry Christmas to you as well! Thanks for following.
Very helpful, I think I can manage to get this done
We believe in you
Where did you get the door sweep?
@bamagym exactly the problem I have. Did you find a solution?
Hello. I have a question. I am currently moving into an apartment room (shared with 2 other roommates). My biggest concern is others being able to hear me talk at night (when I record videos or stream). Somebody recommended me to try placing Weatherstrips around the wooden door. I found this video on how to install them on an indoor and the information you presented is very understandable + correct. Will adding weatherstrips around my room door reduce (possibly block out entirely) the volume of my voice when I close the door?
99% certainty this will NOT do what you want.
Thank-you for the reply! It's sad how there aren't too many good choices out here for reducing noise without removing drywall (landlord won't approve of drywall renovation).
I’d look into a small vocal booth maybe?
will this reduce the smell of smoke from one room if i keep the door closed?
what is the device you use to check the temperature ? Please answer !!!!
I really enjoyed this; quick and to the point. Great visuals. I'm in a big city & often get awakened as I can't block out street noise into my apartment with my flimsy hollow core bedroom door. Many thanks. Any other ideas I should consider?................................................................................................... PS- There's also a roaring commercial exhaust fan on the my roof (I'm on the top floor, so this is right over my head, & also I've got a bedroom window, now stuffed with foam pillows, which is actually somewhat useful; of course, it's November now... come the summer though, & I'll need to open the window to get some air, so the pillows may only be a temporary fix ). Any ideas there? My fear is that, other than the window, that noise is probably coming through my walls as well. I can't see hanging curtains on the wall, as the room is pretty small to begin with & I don't want to make it any smaller; still, I'm hungry for ideas that don't demand any great DIY skills or cash. Last question: any ideas for soundproofing my bedroom ceiling, which is what separates me from that roaring exhaust fan? Anyway, thanks again.
Sorry, but I think your easiest and most effective DIY fix is to move out. Some problems are designed into a building.
Thanks, but I can't do that. I own the apartment. There used to be a French restaurant on the ground floor, and peace. Then a noisy sports bar moved in and all hell broke loose; they fired up the exhaust fan that had never been turned on, and when its motor died they put in a louder one, and the value of my investment (and what peace of mind I had) plummeted. The efficacy of the pillows in the window have given me some hope, & your video has also made me a little more hopeful, that I can "take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing, end them". In any case, taking some DIY action beat a seemingly bottomless depression, is my hope. My fear is that if I'm totally unsuccessful, if I end up just writhing uselessly like a fly trapped in a spider's web, what effect that would have on me.
Thanks for this video. Could you share what material you used for the weatherstripping? I know that you called it a "closed cell foam"; the options seem to be by material - poly vinyl foam, rubber foam, and so on.
All peel-and-stick strips should perform roughly the same. Overall, it would be better to use a mechanically-fastened strip if possible.
@@HomePerformance Hello, what is a 'mechanically-fastened' strip? what does it mean? Will the weather stripping withstand both super hot and super cold?
It means either nailed or screwed to the frame, not just glued.
This maybe a silly question, but what surface do you measure to determine how thick of weather stripping to buy? Thanks in advance!
Measure the gap- sorry if that’s a silly answer. Once you give it a shot, you’ll figure it out in no time.
Wait a minute! I could see the leak down there at the corner! :D
4:36
What kind of trim seal did u use
you could cut a piece of fleece/quilt or bubble wrap the size of the door and stick it onto the side of the door you will not see.
¡All right!
You didn't address the issue of the paper covering the adhesive side; it APPEARED as if that sticky side made no contact with the lip of the door. If that's true, what makes the foam adhere to the door stop, since it's been applied with the sticky side out?? And since it's sticky side out, might the door itself adhere to the foam, making opening or closing the door more of a chore?
You think this would work well with keeping cigarette smoke out of a bedroom? Unfortunately stuck living under someone’s roof who chain smokes right near my bedroom door so need to figure out how to seal that stuff out since it makes me sick…
Hi. I got weather strip and the self adhesive door sweep then found this video. I have already done the door sweep a week ago and it's already coming off. Doing the weather strip now. But not sure what I'm going to do now with the bottom of the door. Any suggestions?
Lots of options (LOTS), but fastening with screws is always better than glue strips
thanks for this. i'm going to try this on the doors of a music studio!
lol dude literally same
@@sabbath994 haha nice
I just weather stripped my door the correct way I believe. My door wouldn't close tight any more after the weather stripping. I used the small gap foam weather strip. what can I do now to make the door close tight? Thank you for any help!
Jady, there must be too much wstrip or in a spot that's too tight. Remove the wstrip where it's giving you a problem- you should be able to see that issue at work if you open/close slowly.
Thanks! I think the wstrip is just too thick for the gap. I might have to find a thin one.. thanks for your help!
Same problem here. I like. The v-shaped weatherstrip better and for outside door the spongepoly nail on weather strip
What a great attic space! We can't stand upon ours! Thanks!
May I know what model and brand of the infrared viewing gun that you're using?
It was a FLIR Bcam, not made anymore
What is that little machine you're using to see the cold air coming through? Ugh. I need one of those. Thank you for this video! This is exactly the solution to my back door draft I can't get rid of.

Glad we helped with your back door.
Hi there! I know this video is from a long time ago but i just wanted to know which brand and the exact measurement of the weather stripping you used. Because my door is also not tight just like yours. Thank you so much
+ruth tefera sorry, I don't remember! You're right it was a long time ago.
Hi Ruth. measure the width of the piece of wood (or steel) on the outside that meets the door when it is closed. That is the size you need. Check at a local hardware store (NOT Walmart, they aren't qualified) and ask for someone who is qualified. I used the solid rubber type, and it keeps out air and noise, and is guaranteed for 5 years.
