    I ordered one of these today. It works great for vlogging and content creation, but the ability to use it directly as a USB mic is amazing! With this + the EOS WebCam utility, you've got amazing on-the-go video chatting capabilities, without the need to lug anything else around! Add a CamLink to that, and you've got a top notch streaming setup!

    This mic saved our film when our main interior mic, an Audio Technica AT4053B, suffered terrible RF interference on a recent shoot in NYC. The interference was so bad, it made the audio of 3 locations unusable. Our on-camera Rode VideoMic NTG did not have the same issues (better design). It produced great audio and saved our film. Huge thanks to Rode.

    Just installed, with the purpose of using it for webinars & YT live shows (talking head but needs some space for showing books/albums - one of the reasons I didn't like and want a lavalier mic). Works well! Paired with RODE PSA-1 (which is not intended, nor designed for pairing due to low weight and other reasons) but it gave me exactly what I wanted: clear shot, with mic being invisible just above my head. 100% happy.

    Great review and demonstrations! And, dude, I love this mic! I actually just had it delivered yesterday and it picks up 2 people talking perfectly (and it didn't pick up the noise from my ceiling fan, which is a must because my studio tends to get a bit warm!).
    Now, the one MISTAKE I made last night in the interview I was doing was that I didn't double-check that the mic was on. Typically, the mic automatically turns on once it's plugged in. However, this doesn't happen about 90% of the time. Last night, the soundcheck went great! But once I plugged the mic back in after listening to your test, the mic didn't turn on. So...(ugh!!) an hour and a half interview was completely gone! Talk about heart-broken (I was interviewing the drummer for Siren, which has recently been resurrected from the 80s). Fortunately, he's agreed to do another one, which I will this time double-check everything and will also have a backup source going!
    Next, I'll also be testing this for my guitar videos. I've always wanted to get a mic like this to be able to record tutorials while talking and playing back and forth. My lavalier mic just doesn't work well for that. So for years I've been recording my guitar direct and syncing the audio/video, but that is time-consuming.
    BTW, nice Jackson!

    I just bought this mic and found your video to be very helpful for its use. For me, it will be used while in the field or woods. I'm looking forward to testing the mic's ability to reduce wind noise using the 150 high-pass filter in conjunction with the wind screen. I think it's a bonus that it's highly directional, but we'll see how well it picks up nature's ambient sounds that are pleasing. Thanks for your information.

    I know this video is old, but I'm glad you did a deep dive into every feature, as that's what I was looking for! I've been using the original VideoMic for years and it has never failed me, however, having to remember to have 9v batteries before every single shoot gets annoying and these days, super expensive. This is the main reason for getting the NTG with its rechargeable battery. I also wanted a smaller mic and didn't realize how much smaller this was than the original VideoMic, so that was a pleasant surprise. Also I love my DR-10L and the dual recording, so finding out that the NTG also has this is incredibly useful.

    One thing about the non-replaceable battery .You can easily send it to Rode and ask them to do it, you don't need to dump it and get a new one, why would you even think that and not consider a simple after-service for a new battery?I am sure its an easy replacement just like most user non replaceable batteries on hundreds of other devices.

    Best review so far for this mic. I want to capture voice and ambient sound (noisy streets and things like that) with a camera and a phone and you explained clearly that it might not be the ideal mic for that.
    It's a beautiful piece of tech though. I like the features.
    I have a descent USB mic to record voice and play online games, it has a 0 latency monitoring output but like this Rode, there's no way to control the headset output volume directly on the mic, and doing it in Windows causes some problems. I don't even know if there are some mics able to do that.

      So I've travelled for 6 years straight and just filmed along the way with a Gopro but hardly even looked at the footage because I travelled without a computer. Now because of Covid I went back home to my parents and it was the start of a long cold winter and I thought I have to do something with my footage and started a UA-cam channel... So basically I edit little travel/diving/spearfishing/ adventure videos and am using all my old Gopro footage for this, but the audio is so horrible that I bought a good Mic to do some voice overs. Another couple of months and I will have gotten through all of these older videos and in the meantime I started filming and documenting my life with a better camera to keep putting out better quality in the near future, just so much footage to go through and edit for the moment :D

    I appreciate the detailed review although I’m always skeptical because RODE do send out a lot of freebies to UA-camrs while treating regular customers very badly. This helps them sell a LOT of products due to the volume of content put out. However, that said, regardless of your praise and conclusion, you included details that many reviewers didn’t explain clearly or fully and that deserves a big thumbs up. Thank you.

    Hi! Thank you for the detailed review! I have a very important question! In many reviews, I hear background noise created by the microphone itself. You don't hear this noise, did you process the sound in this video or the sound without processing? I really want this microphone but I'm stopped by the noise I hear from other bloggers

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  4 роки тому +2

      This was 100% unprocessed, raw audio from the mic. The reasons so many reviewers have background noise are 1) Improper gain staging, 2) low quality or poorly set up recorder, 3) untreated recording environment.

      @@AudioforContentCreators Thanks for the answer! I got my videomic NTG today. I didn't notice any problems, everything works perfectly! There is no noise!

      Audio for Content Creators well, I’m still trying to find my voice. I’ve gotten into filmmaking about 3 years ago, and I’m doing client work from time to time. I have a full time job, so I can’t devote my full attention to both. I’ve been sharing things on these two channels, but I feel it’s time to structure things.

    Is this the mic you would recommend for use in recording a live jazz concert? I am planning to use this on a camcorder. Thank you in advanced 😊

    Brian...have you covered somewhere what Audio Interface you use? Almost considering getting a Tascam D-40X to use for Interface and have the option for portable recording...but i already own the DR-05X... your thoughts?

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  4 роки тому +1

      I talk about it in my online course I think. My interface is a Presonus 44 VSL. I highly recommend a dedicated audio interface for the highest quality, unless you need portability.

      Audio for Content Creators I have the Scarlett Focusrite Solo. It seems on a non condenser mic you really have to crank the Gain on it. Maybe weak Preamp?

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  4 роки тому +1

      Sounds like it. I use Presonus start to finish, hardware to software. Their preamps have loads of gain, very transparent and quiet.

    great review! Can I use it plugged with a power source (battery bank, wall plug)? Could this be a solution if the non-removable battery stops holding charges?

    I feel like the presence boost is how the mic should always sound, it can't really pull off the neutral thing the way the NTG3, Schoeps MK41, Oktava MK-012, and MKH 8050 can. I think it's because of the huge dip it has in the flat mode.

    Really appreciated your video. Thank you! I just purchased this NTG today and am hoping it will help step up my audio-game.
    Question...I film over carpet in a small area. Have an audio blanket blocking the area off and one professional acoustic panel...would it be overkill to also install an acoustic panel on the ceiling above me and on the opposite wall or would that be overkill?

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  4 роки тому +1

      I have one panel cloud mounted directly above my desk where I was in this video, and where I do a lot of talking head and podcasting. Compared to filmed on my couch at the other side of the room without a ceiling mounted panel, it's a much tighter sound. I highly recommend it.
