Great review and demonstrations! And, dude, I love this mic! I actually just had it delivered yesterday and it picks up 2 people talking perfectly (and it didn't pick up the noise from my ceiling fan, which is a must because my studio tends to get a bit warm!). Now, the one MISTAKE I made last night in the interview I was doing was that I didn't double-check that the mic was on. Typically, the mic automatically turns on once it's plugged in. However, this doesn't happen about 90% of the time. Last night, the soundcheck went great! But once I plugged the mic back in after listening to your test, the mic didn't turn on. So...(ugh!!) an hour and a half interview was completely gone! Talk about heart-broken (I was interviewing the drummer for Siren, which has recently been resurrected from the 80s). Fortunately, he's agreed to do another one, which I will this time double-check everything and will also have a backup source going! Next, I'll also be testing this for my guitar videos. I've always wanted to get a mic like this to be able to record tutorials while talking and playing back and forth. My lavalier mic just doesn't work well for that. So for years I've been recording my guitar direct and syncing the audio/video, but that is time-consuming. BTW, nice Jackson!
Just installed, with the purpose of using it for webinars & YT live shows (talking head but needs some space for showing books/albums - one of the reasons I didn't like and want a lavalier mic). Works well! Paired with RODE PSA-1 (which is not intended, nor designed for pairing due to low weight and other reasons) but it gave me exactly what I wanted: clear shot, with mic being invisible just above my head. 100% happy.
I ordered one of these today. It works great for vlogging and content creation, but the ability to use it directly as a USB mic is amazing! With this + the EOS WebCam utility, you've got amazing on-the-go video chatting capabilities, without the need to lug anything else around! Add a CamLink to that, and you've got a top notch streaming setup!
This mic saved our film when our main interior mic, an Audio Technica AT4053B, suffered terrible RF interference on a recent shoot in NYC. The interference was so bad, it made the audio of 3 locations unusable. Our on-camera Rode VideoMic NTG did not have the same issues (better design). It produced great audio and saved our film. Huge thanks to Rode.

This video is really great was very helpful ,and now I have a better understanding on how I should set it up when I use it the next time. Now my viewers can expect better sounding voice overs.
I just bought this mic and found your video to be very helpful for its use. For me, it will be used while in the field or woods. I'm looking forward to testing the mic's ability to reduce wind noise using the 150 high-pass filter in conjunction with the wind screen. I think it's a bonus that it's highly directional, but we'll see how well it picks up nature's ambient sounds that are pleasing. Thanks for your information.

Thank you so much for this video, it is exactly what I was looking for!!! I just bought this Mic for content creation on my UA-cam channel and wanted to know how all the features work, you answered all my question plus some more!! Good work :)
So I've travelled for 6 years straight and just filmed along the way with a Gopro but hardly even looked at the footage because I travelled without a computer. Now because of Covid I went back home to my parents and it was the start of a long cold winter and I thought I have to do something with my footage and started a UA-cam channel... So basically I edit little travel/diving/spearfishing/ adventure videos and am using all my old Gopro footage for this, but the audio is so horrible that I bought a good Mic to do some voice overs. Another couple of months and I will have gotten through all of these older videos and in the meantime I started filming and documenting my life with a better camera to keep putting out better quality in the near future, just so much footage to go through and edit for the moment :D
23:25 I really love the mic and sound, but these slight distortions overclipping moments everytime you raise your voice a bit are really my biggest concern. Does Sennheiser MKE400-600 has more max SPL ? Does it sound as full as the NTG ?
Excellent review. Finally ordered one of these: seems like it will be great for use w/ FilmicPro, which could benefit from a mic with the gain control features of the VideoMic NTG.
Probably don't need the presence boost. Might want 75hz if there's a lot of wind, or even 150hz. But don't use low cut if what you're trying to capture has deep, rumbly frequencies.
@@AudioforContentCreators thanks so much man! I watched your video 3 times and I gotta say, it’s VERY helpful and probably the best video on UA-cam for the rode videomic. Thanks for making this and commenting back! Cheers

Audio for Content Creators well, I’m still trying to find my voice. I’ve gotten into filmmaking about 3 years ago, and I’m doing client work from time to time. Terrific breakdown. I just ordered a used NTG online for $179...my only concern is how much life the battery will have, something I really didn't consider.
I feel like the presence boost is how the mic should always sound, it can't really pull off the neutral thing the way the NTG3, Schoeps MK41, Oktava MK-012, and MKH 8050 can. I think it's because of the huge dip it has in the flat mode.
Thank you very much for your review . I am in search of the mic that is capable to handle the engine at full throttle and exhaust . Can you suggest any? Thank you in advance . Alex
Ive had this mic for a year now and ive just plugged it in and recorded and only recently after doing my first vlog outside thought to myself I better look at the settings now xD
I appreciate the detailed review although I’m always skeptical because RODE do send out a lot of freebies to UA-camrs while treating regular customers very badly. This helps them sell a LOT of products due to the volume of content put out. However, that said, regardless of your praise and conclusion, you included details that many reviewers didn’t explain clearly or fully and that deserves a big thumbs up. Thank you.
Amazing review. I learned a lot in this video so thank you for this information. By the way, what are the NTG settings you used for this video? I don’t want to do anything in post. I have no background noise at home or at the office (where I usually film all my content).
Wow you really have some detailed information... decided to check what your videos were after seeing your video "AT875R or VideoMic NTG? SM57 and 58 the same mic?" I was interested in knowing your take about the AT875R. I own the Rode NTG, tended to always connect to the camera but I am now curious about how it sounds adding the audio in post; have been using my Shure MV7 for adding in post audio... I also use the Sony ZV-1 and use the Scarlet 2i2 Gen 3 as my audio interface.
incredible review, thanks a lot! would you still recommend this microphone 3 years later, or is there something better out there? i am mostly shooting motor-sports like motocross and stuff .. concerned this microphone can't handle the noise. also, will you review the rode wireless pro?
What I don’t think was mentioned in your review and has worked really well for me is the lack of rf interference from my wireless Go setup. It’s fantastic, my video mic is horrible for picking up the interference but my ntg is perfect, that alone is worth the price of entry!
hi how can I film or record video with rode wireless go ll from the front camera of Samsung s21 ultra without any issues. and record from 2 transmitters to get stereo sound and the best sound quality?
Comes with a 10 year warranty once you register it with Rode, so any battery issues should be taken care of. The sound of this MIC is truly amazing, and for the price you can't beat it, and YES it is a TOTAL copy of the Deity D3 Pro in every way, but the Rode still sounds better since it has the powerful and historical quality of the NTG tech family.
I don't know if I'd call it amazing, but it's definitely good for a camera top mic. But at the price it's roughly the same price as the Oktava MK-012 which is a much better mic, especially when you use the hypercardioid capsule.
the biggest reason why I have not used this regularly is because I have yet to figure out what the mic gain should be in correspondence to the camera's mic gain settings. I've found that at moments the audio will be nice but then later at a party where its loud the mic will clip like crazy making the quality sound horrible.

Thank you very much for your review . I am in search of the mic that is capable to handle the engine at full throttle and exhaust . Can you suggest any? Thank you in advance . Alex
Best review so far
Really good review! Thank you, I learn much about my own mic better than the brochure that followed ☺️
Great review! Thanks! Very helpful:)
Thank you.
if I want to use this for zoom or MS Teams and connect it to my camera via TRRS: Do I have to plug in a USB-C cable as well to keep it powered?
I can’t believe it not many subscribers yet. Very good presentation 👍🏻
Ah, much appreciated! Thanks for subscribing.
Amazing review. I learned a lot in this video so thank you for this information. By the way, what are the NTG settings you used for this video? I don’t want to do anything in post. I have no background noise at home or at the office (where I usually film all my content).
All the settings changed throughout the video as I demonstrated them. Thanks for watching!
EXCELLENT review. I’m buying one.
You’re an incredible reviewer.
Can someone please suggest what are the best settings would be for Ambient noise recording. Thanks.
What I don’t think was mentioned in your review and has worked really well for me is the lack of rf interference from my wireless Go setup. It’s fantastic, my video mic is horrible for picking up the interference but my ntg is perfect, that alone is worth the price of entry!
Best review of Videomic NTG
do you remember the gain knob u set when you record the FAN?
Thank you so much! this was super helpful and straight to the point!
hi how can I film or record video with rode wireless go ll from the front camera of Samsung s21 ultra without any issues. and record from 2 transmitters to get stereo sound and the best sound quality?
Auto power on not always work on S1H and S1..
