I think the real problem with the commando droid was. That they were not set up to mass produce them. They were instead set up to mass produce the B1 battle droid. There's nothing super advanced about the commando droid. The cost per unit could have been brought down with mass production. If they had retooled for that purpose, however they didn't. They were already tooled up for the B1 battle droid.
Because the B1s were already developed. The BXs were developed during the clone wars, where as the B1s were already around for like 15 years by that point ( they were developed a few years before episode 1, to fend of pirates, atleast in legends.) Therefor there was more manufacturing capacity, and maintanace capacity for the B1s, because there was a whole industry built around them. The BXs needed new production lines established to make sure they can be produced in practical and reliable numbers. But that is just the making of the droid itself, the parts like the voice modul and the new operating system all need to be build from a new too, and that is a lot of effort, as few parts were already existing, and just one of these supply lines being cut means the BXs can´t be produced. Where as B1s take parts that are made by multable supply lines, that were established over time out of necassity to produce higher numbers, and maybe even some off brand parts, because the B1 may use components that were found in other droids, to not make them too expensive, because initially they were designed to just be security droids (by the designers, they were ultimately intended to be used for their purpose as battle droids, but the designers tried to make a cheap and reliable security droid), and so taking existing parts like a processing unit that is capeable of handling the routine of the droid makes sense. Like, if the seperatists lost a production plant for the B1 processing unit they may be able to sublement them with protocol droid processing units or similar ones, where as the BX had a more complex processing unit, and one I doubt many ordinary droids processing units could be compared too. Then there is the initial issue of costs, because it takes a few badges and simplification in manufacturing to achieve a really good producing price. If the BX development was started 15 years before the clone wars, they would be a lot cheaper than their in universe price, because the production would be simplified, i.e. requiering less costs to build. Even with geonosians building them for little credits, the energy to melt the metal and buy the machines to produce the parts must be bought of world, and that cost stacks up. Also the manufacturing itself could be made easier, like instead of using CNC machines to make the bodies of the B1s, they might instead be made from stamped dura-steel, cheapening the price per droid, and not really affecting usability. The B1s were probably so cheap and easy to produce, that repairing them would be more expensive than building and buying a new one. The same can not be said for the BX series, because of how intensive the production needs were. After a few years of optimizing, the BX would maybe be simpler and less feature-rich, but also only a fraction of the price, while still furfilling its´ purpose of being a superior B1 droid. That is why it is called BX, because the X is an indecator that it is experimental after all. Lastly, material. The B1 is utterly cheap, but also has little exotic materials. So even a struggling CIS with few worlds left standing has the resources to build them. Where as the BX requires more specialized components, and finding those when loosing the only world having them to the republic is hard. Other than manufacturing, the BX is too specialized. There is no use in having a droid that can do everything, and be so good at it. Either the CIS should make dedicated droids that are really good at one thing , i.e cheaper to produce, or build B1 style droids that can do everything good enough, but not too good to make them expensive ( for mass produced droids atleast, as supposed to Magna Guards that were NOT intended to be mass produced, but intended to be an expensive droid that is used for special roles ). Result: The BX may be nice, but overly specialized and too new to be manufactured reasonably. Like how a Porsche GT3 is nicer than a Volkswagen Golf, but the later is cheaper to produce, easier to produce in large quantaties, and still a good car.
DURASTEEL BX hmmmm , you got a start of a good idea but then super battle droid are also there so i dont think cheapening BX makes sense , keep them specialized.
One of my dream Star wars games is to be trooper involved with very detailed destruction of a droid factory and maybe a separate campaign doing the same but as a droid with various models and weapons

Kinda begs some questions: if the Republic, with all its economic might, had set about building a battledroid army instead of a clone army, what would it have looked like and how big could it have gotten? How quickly could they have ramped up production, if they'd really thrown their weight behind the idea? Future video ideas, perhaps?
Given the cost of every BX Commando Droid and the fact that units such as the B1s, B2s, Droidekas etc. were meant for the open Battlefields of the Clone Wars, its likely that the Commando Droids were meant to be Stealth, Infiltration, Sabotage and Assassination Units.

The commandos were better used a scalpel rather than as infantry because of the gymnastic movements. The standard Battledroids could form an impenetrable line while the commandos would need more room to move around.
I would say ditch all the acrobatics and use the advanced servos to haul more armor. Imagine if BX were impervious to all (but anti vehicle) hand held weapons of the GAR. Also the most efficient way of using them would be during urban combat, where you just cannot put 18 B1s in the same narrow hallway. Or as the tip of the spear air assault units tasked to create a foothold for deploying the main forces.
There is a diminishing return and feels like a waste to put BXs as infantry. BX were made for special ops and high level security, any other role would be a waste
Honestly I am more surprised that 'enterprising' CIS captains or officers didn't try making mobile factories using some common cargo container ship to make either their own second hand BX droids from salvaging battles for materials to than be fed into making more of these very handy droids. Than slap some full body uniforms with their voice synth to play at being crew members or scavs while covertly dropping of 'shipments' to play havoc with Republic/Empire's activities.
Damn that is clever the likely reason that wasnt done was because of the shortage of skilled comanders anyone with that level of brains willing to lead troops would have been given armies and told to take planets.
Amazing how much power the Confederacy’s smaller economy could put out to completely outclass the Republic’s. The same handful of corporations basically circulating the same money to pay eachother to produce an absolutely massive army all at the same time. In a way they were right to focus on producing the B1s exclusively. Buying more cheap soldiers over fewer expensive ones helps to not only build an even more massive army, but it also speeds up that “turbocharged economy” effect.

One thing I heard and wanted to say something about. You said that only 10k units of clone commandos were intentionally made. It is correct but each unit had 4 clones. The kiminonas had a different view of what clones were and didn't value a clone trooper as a single unit.
It is the same reason why the soviets in WW2 kept producing T34 tanks when the T44 was better in every way, to re tool the factory’s for the new tank they would have to stop production which they could not afford during the war of attrition that they were in.

I also find it interesting that in the bad batch we see afew different police droid models that have the body plan of BXs, just with a different head and paint. this may have just been a real life cost cutting measure to simply reuse an already designed droid model as opposed to making a whole new one but in universe it makes me wonder if after the clone wars if the company making BXs shifted into making police droids to continue having business after the empire took over. or if similarly some other company took the designs for the BX after the separatist collapse and modified them to to be police droids with a different head/programming, and also probably made out of cheaper materials despite making the same body shape and sold them to the empire the ones I remember specifically where the "imperial police droids" seen in bad batch episode 6, Decommissioned but I swear I remember seeing another droid in the series with the same body but another different head.
I saw plenty of people answered already that it was the cost why the BX-Series Commando Droids did not get mass produce. However, what stopped the Droids Army from forming a group similar to the Bad Batch by using these Commando Droids?
I can give three reasons why The first problem face is the simple fact that B1 Battle both starships and ground go do repairs, combat, maintenance, and combat. Now you might be able to commando droids do maintenance and repair jobs and combat with having less effective at combat you might not. It is also possible to combine computers us this simple not option. The second would be worth doing cost. Again cost does per say have to be high for the real issue. Again the bad batch saw B1- battle droid during the battle of Planet Desix. We see all do during Clone Wars not as effective BX-series commando droids still relatively lethal. A lot say for argument's sake get two B1 battle droids for commando droids. Now according to star war book 9 or `10 B1 -battle droids per commando droid between B1 battle droids is smaller sound. First left with the logistic factor all adds up first you need let us the Lucrehulk-class Battleship basic 5 million credits now carries basic 310 battle droid now has C-9979 landing craft cost about 12,000,000 credits now again carries basic 2,500 battle droids. Now going to need to get the area fight this going Multi-Troop Transport Craft costs another 220 credits. This does not even go crab droids, tank droids, or spider droids maintenance. B1 battle driod make lot sense simple left lot work done keep working and fighting. Commando battle droid performs transport is the Heavy Missile Platform) droid gunship 60,000 credits per unit which carry 10 commando droids aid role firepower. While yes might be able to get 10 battle droids for one commando droid things start Heavy missile platform droid gunship you get basic and 20 B1 battle droids and Heavy missile platform droid gunship droids get about 7 and 10 commando battle droids. Now of question would one squad of heavy missile platforms gunship with 10 commando battle droids more effectively 2 heavy missile platforms with B1 battle droids. The answer is likely yes commando battle droids that fought battle for planet Desix show to be more effective B1 battle droids. They almost stop clones cry out load. We also saw missile launchers used effectively down the Heavy missile platform droid gunship. Role something closer to both do the job protect other. Commando droids turn themselves into priority targets with B1 battle droids if have the right anti-vehicle missile to take out the heavy missile platform and prevent use a second time. A commando battle droid is less option even have the right missile they choose to take little revenge deal more series threats. Giving a choice between revenge and living they normal choice living. Since between factor lose fewer commando battle droids and lose fewer Heavy missile platforms means latter own more money and spend even more on both or other units. So real reason is likely see the screen.
I wish I could get 100 BX series for real life. I would have them become firefighters since my area is running low on volunteers and these would work great 😌 also imagine paintballing with these nightmares 😂.
Having BX Commando Droids as line infantry is stupid anyways. Even if they had the credits to replace each B1 with a BX, it would make no difference on the battlefield. Both B1 and BX will get mauled by AT-TEs, LAATs, artillery and blaser rifles (slightly more shots to take down a BX, but if they are deployed on a massive scale like the B1s, can't miss them).
Meanwhile The Weaving Force has B3 Ultra Battledroids and Jedi Hunter droids coming out of the literal wazoo. Though the increase in scale goes all around, the clones' initial size is increased to 300 million, and stuff like that. The fic is really wild.
A way to limit the cost of the Bx is to use metal from the wrecked warships. These were perfect for boarding ships and the RA could’ve used them with brutal efficiency.
both are needed, the B1's were the cannon fodder needed to do frontal assaults pinning down the opposing forces while the BX could do the flanking manoeuvers and hit them from behind at the same time
🤔 . . . There could’ve been two versions of BX droids; a more forward assault force & an anti-superpowered (i.e. anti-Jedi) security force, especially for high profile targets & such.
If they were good at budgeting & also not so SITH like they could’ve probably had half the b1 units out there ratio to commandos, mix them in like the B2

Expensive, Expensive an usually.... THOSE sorta Droids woulda been EXPENSIVE... AF... When you think of trying to build an field enough of them to constitute even a small army of them, on a Galactic scale..
Now, what they really should have done was back-port some of the advanced combat programs to the B1s. Much cheaper, and anything that made the b1s less stupid would have been great.
They don't fit the tactics, and on top of that while the BX had agility on its side, the B-2 had insane durability (Not consistent with what's shown in TCW) due to having heavy armor, on top heavier munitions as a whole. Shock troops, essentially. BXs were also highly aggressive which again, not only didn't mesh with the general field tactics (Mass attacks rather than fire and maneuver) but even with their general advantages would still lead to high attrition. They had more of a will to survive in general combat, but their programming that allowed that aggression would "Switch on" and the survival "Instinct" goes out the window. Remove the excessive aggression and you're then building droid Soldiers, not battle droids. They had a higher capacity of independent thought compared to all other fielded droids without the arrogance of tactical droids, the ability to disobey or execute orders in a way that would be deemed unacceptable by CIS standards, even if effective in outcome. To unpredictable for the greater leadership's taste, and overly independently minded for Sith to potentially keep controlled if produced en-mass.
1.Late to the party BX deployment started around 2 years after the clone wars, which is 11 years after naboo blocade. Nobody bets all money on wunderwaffe. 2. Trenches love numbers, not skills As we can say from all of 3 of world wars - numbers of soldiers makes the difference, even when you fighting with literal cannonball meat against literal superheroes. Yes, surprise effect can give you time, but as soon as enemy adapts - it's all back to digits. 3. It was Sidious all along Even with better tactics and unlimited army - it's hard to win a war when the war is a staged show by two sith.
Over time droids develop personalities if they’re not reset or destroyed after some time. R2 is one such droid that developed a very strong personality after years in service and no memory wiping. B1s and other battle droids weren’t excepted to last pass the war so they weren’t given memory wipes. So by the end of the Clone Wars, they were more prone to be free thinking and even disobedient.
Im not really sure what youre on about here. Obviously the BX droids werent produced in mass and deployed in mass is because Palpatine (Lucas) knew theyd be WAY too effective and sweep the Republic off the Galactic map, and Dooku (Filoni) really only thought of them about half way through the war.
18k credits for the Separatists bc they bought in bulk. For everyone else 180k bc you would have to have unique programming and most likely it would be illegal to own a military styled droid. maybe?
Why not put the head from the BX-Series on the body of the B1-Series? surely it wouldn't be that much more then a standard B1, you could even leave out the advanced vocabulator. You'd just be upgrading the B1 to be as smart as the BX. The only reason I said to use the BX head and not just the BX droid brain is because I assume it won't fit in the B1 head. (I mean why else would the BX-Series have a larger head?)

Having BX Commando Droids as line infantry is stupid anyways. Even if they had the credits to replace each B1 with a BX, it would make no difference on the battlefield. Both B1 and BX will get mauled by AT-TEs, LAATs, artillery and blaser rifles (slightly more shots to take down a BX, but if they are deployed on a massive scale like the B1s, can't miss them).

A way to limit the cost of the Bx is to use metal from the wrecked warships. These were perfect for boarding ships and the RA could’ve used them with brutal efficiency.

Now, what they really should have done was back-port some of the advanced combat programs to the B1s. Much cheaper, and anything that made the b1s less stupid would have been great.

They don't fit the tactics, and on top of that while the BX had agility on its side, the B-2 had insane durability (Not consistent with what's shown in TCW) due to having heavy armor, on top heavier munitions as a whole. Shock troops, essentially.
BXs were also highly aggressive which again, not only didn't mesh with the general field tactics (Mass attacks rather than fire and maneuver) but even with their general advantages would still lead to high attrition. They had more of a will to survive in general combat, but their programming that allowed that aggression would "Switch on" and the survival "Instinct" goes out the window.
Remove the excessive aggression and you're then building droid Soldiers, not battle droids. They had a higher capacity of independent thought compared to all other fielded droids without the arrogance of tactical droids, the ability to disobey or execute orders in a way that would be deemed unacceptable by CIS standards, even if effective in outcome. To unpredictable for the greater leadership's taste, and overly independently minded for Sith to potentially keep controlled if produced en-mass.
I wish the BX were in Star Wars Republic Commando. Perfect enemy for a squad of commandos? Another squad of commandos.
Essentially, imagine fielding an entire army using only specialist and not general standing army

BX deployment started around 2 years after the clone wars, which is 11 years after naboo blocade. Nobody bets all money on wunderwaffe.
2. Trenches love numbers, not skills
As we can say from all of 3 of world wars - numbers of soldiers makes the difference, even when you fighting with literal cannonball meat against literal superheroes. Yes, surprise effect can give you time, but as soon as enemy adapts - it's all back to digits.

Over time droids develop personalities if they’re not reset or destroyed after some time. R2 is one such droid that developed a very strong personality after years in service and no memory wiping. B1s and other battle droids weren’t excepted to last pass the war so they weren’t given memory wipes. So by the end of the Clone Wars, they were more prone to be free thinking and even disobedient.
But computers have to be that advanced to learn we don't computers that function as brains

Im not really sure what youre on about here. Obviously the BX droids werent produced in mass and deployed in mass is because Palpatine (Lucas) knew theyd be WAY too effective and sweep the Republic off the Galactic map, and Dooku (Filoni) really only thought of them about half way through the war.

Why not put the head from the BX-Series on the body of the B1-Series? surely it wouldn't be that much more then a standard B1, you could even leave out the advanced vocabulator. You'd just be upgrading the B1 to be as smart as the BX. The only reason I said to use the BX head and not just the BX droid brain is because I assume it won't fit in the B1 head. (I mean why else would the BX-Series have a larger head?)
