Absolutely amazing detailed breakdown of the entire process. Why on earth haven’t I been saving ever last drop of wasted resin in a separate container like that?!? Goal for 2022 is to make a spray booth like that 🤯
Hello there Uncle Jessy Sir😁 Thank you so much for saying that😁 That really means a lot, especially when it’s from someone who I know share’s the same interests. And you’ll be happy to know a «Studio Tour» is coming, and I’ll hopefully put in the making of the spray booth😉 Have a good one, and enjoy the holiday’s with family & friends. Cheers
@@PropsNstuff I'm looking forward to the spray booth part, as I am in dire need of one myself. Don't know where to buy the filter yet w/o "breaking" the bank (yes, I'm a cheapskate).
I'ma be honest, that killed part of my soul when he added plastic eyes instead of lenses. I know it's a prop, but you can't tell me that everyone DOESN'T have a desire to wear a build like this, and NOT be disappointed when you can't see out of it. Lol Great build!
He said UV Resin and I flipped out, "There's no way that's a cheaper alternative to putty!" and the realization when he finally showed his 3D printing resin was such an aha moment
As a fellow prop maker, I must say, you're truly legit. I have been using resin and spray putty interchangeably for years, but your method to add talcum powder is new to me. I've learnt something exciting, can't wait to try it. I don't think dedicated small bottles of uv resin is practical. Just because the props which makers makes are usually very big. One difference is, I use a large UV torchlight and a wider brush than yours to cover wider areas faster. I usually make 8 of these at the same time 🤭 Btw, with masking tape, hardware stores sells low tack(low adhesion) masking tape for hobby paints like this. You're totally right that masking tape will tear off paint, I make masks too and got my fair share of this problem. I'm using the low tack masking tape from 3M now and they save me a ton of rework.
As a total beginner who is trying to get into painting 3D props, this video has been an amazing and detailed walkthrough for me. You deserve way more subs for the quality videos you produce! I would love to see how you did the details on the eyepieces.
Hello there Jelly Bean😉 That's so cool, I'm glad I could help in some way😁 The weathering techniques are usually covered better, but I feel the video was running a bit long....so maybe next time. Or check out some older video of mine. Always different ways to weather something😉 Have a great one, cheers
This is exactly what I want to do. I've got my airbrush kit fully ready to go. I need to get a 3D printer and I want to be printing helmets. Loved your DIY booth, this is definitely the channel for me.
Love your walkthrough on this, although I've never been able to do anything like it from start to finish in a day let alone a week. But it's been a while since I've done a big project, and my printers are FAR better tuned in now than they've ever been. I can't wait to give a project like this a try.
Awesome video. Some of the techniques I knew and many I didn't. I had started dabbling in the resin but honestly just re-using old leftovers of resin never occurred to me.
Hello there Besi Art😉 Thank you so much for saying that Sir😁 And yes, I'm actually working on a studio tour video these days😉 So it's coming up for sure! Have a great one, cheers buddy
Fantastic job on the cowl. You mentioned it was cold and the outside temperature was 22 Celcius. Did you mean to say Fahrenheit? Because 22 C is rather warm.
Amazing work mate, congratulations! Just got my first 3d printer and I'm printing one of those mini paint booth to start training smoothing and painting the 3d parts, but I'm totally new to all of this so a lot of training before making such beauties. Gonna take a look on your other videos to learn more, thanks for sharing
Wow. Watched one video. Hit subscribe. You've answered a whole lot of questions I was having about cleaning up and finishing my FDM prints. While I'm posting, I work for a small TV station, and I've got to agree with @mrcetus, your whole production is really well done. This is genuinely better made than a lot of stuff that we broadcast!
There is a fine thing you can mix into the resin, it is called "Mcro-Ballons". These are very, very small glassfibre-balls, and they make the epoxyd thicker.
You are correct about the talc. Body fillers are basically just polyester resin, like you would use for fiberglass work, with fillers like talc to create the paste consistency. You can also make your own out of regular polyester or epoxy resin and add in talc or glass bead till you get the consistency you want.
Thank you for saying that Mr. Jack😁 I'm actually going to make a full size figure in pla. So it's been a range of tests to se how I could clean them up fast. And with a good result. Have a good one, cheers
Excellent work! Have you thought of making an Amazon list with affiliate links for all your supplies? I’d love to know exactly what tools and products you are using and it would be nice to be able to support you that way as well
8:35 22 degrees Celsius outside sounds wonderful. That is almost summer weather. Winter here in northern Canada today was NEGATIVE 35 Celsius. Did you forget a Negative? or did you convert to Fahrenheit, but say Celsius? 22 C is rattle can weather
Sanding sucks because the plastic tends to melt if you try to work fast. The sandpaper gets clogged and needs renewing all the time. You also have to use different grain of sandpaper to reach a good result. A wood scraper instead gives excellent smooth finish and allows to remove material 10 times faster. I have some parts that would take 3-4 hours of sanding, but done in 20 minutes with a scraper. Also, a scraper can be sharpened so the expense converges toward zero. Seriously, if you do any 3d printing or wood working, look into scraping instead of sanding, it's a life changer....
I only print mechanical prints so never any painting but I am a fan of weathering on say space suits ect. That said, when you blur the lines right up to the edge of the color transition black it just screams overspray from painting which after watching video I can see was not the case. I would've been proud to produce this and you fixed all the issues I could have pointed out so it seems a shame to feel it's flawed on first glance.
Damn, this makes the post-process work MUCH, Very much more expensive! You can just use the liquid auto putty and flow it all around the model, then just sand it. You’ll get perfect results with much cheaper way
That makes me so glad to hear Sir😁 Yes, I always try my best to get the best footage as well as telling the prop making story. So I really appreciate it when someone points it out😁 Thanks again, have an awesome day. Cheers

" it's about 22 degrees Celsius outside" where I come from that's summer ha ha ha. Also it's not a helmet it's a cowl. I think the difference is a helmet just sits on your head whereas a cowl is partly a mask and helmet in one.
I know, I know........I meant to say -22🙃 So cold that the primer spray froze as it left the nozzle😳 And yes, you're right about the Cowel😁 I have learned the difference now😉 Cheers buddy!
Hey there Joe😁 Kinda. That’s to say, after the priming. I only sanded down some spots that I had applied to much primer. From there, it was resin all the way. This build was really all about how fast, and with how little I time I could spend on sanding. For a PLA print that is. Hope you get into this 3d printing hobby👌It really is an great escape from the everyday stress😉 Have a good one, cheers

Heh. Thought the same thing. 22 degrees is balmy, shorts and t-shirts kind of weather here in Australia.
Yeah I was confused by that too. Seems like a perfect temperature to be outside. Edit: Oh negative 22 celcius...
