Sara- you’re being a bit hard on yourself. Your grocery hauls are the best for not having processed foods already. Your shopping skills are really impressive
I find Sarah's cooking style and grocery hauls the closest to what we eat too. Most UA-cam vloggers of large families, seem to post a lot of freezer casseroles and Crock-Pot meals. Those are not things we eat at all.
@@andreasidlar7942 we should not be judging anyone. Everyone's situation is different. We don't know what goes on in their lives. Just because they do crock pot meals and freezer meals does not mean they are unhealthy. Not everyone has the money or resources to do "clean" eating. Especially if you have a large family
@@nancyfarkas3592 that wasn't my intent at all. I just meant that Crock-Pot and casseroles don't appeal to my family so I love how Sarah meal preps because it's more similar to how we like to eat and I don't know of a lot of UA-cam vloggers that meal prep the way she does. No offence intended to anyone that does cook that way at all. I think it's great if it works for them
I did “clean” eating a couple of years ago and I felt really great and lost a couple of pounds. Good luck to you!!! ❤️
I got excited when I saw you posted here as well!! Two of my favorite families!! ❤
Me too!! Love Christine and Sarah!!!
Also my 2 favorite families!!!! Love u both❤....#keepinitreal!!!
I hope it is something we can keep up for awhile! I want the kids to love it. 😜. So far so good!
@@OurTribeofMany I live on Northern Florida and any time I store fresh fruits at room temp I get fruit flies . Do you have problems with fruit flies around your fruit? I have to store them in the fridge, and I’m not fond of chilled fruit. I love your Channel.
For sandwich meat, you should try “Plainville Farms”. They sell their organic oven roasted sliced turkey breast at Costco here in CA and it’s only 3 ingredients; organic turkey breast, water & salt.
It may not be the 1 ingredient type of items you’re looking for but it’s pretty clean when compared to other lunch meats and it lists Turkey as the first ingredient! 🤓
It's available in the upper midwest as well! Just bought it for the first time yesterday and it's pretty good!
I was just going to post this as well! I follow Flavcity on Instagram and he posts all about clean products!
Hi Sarah and Solo I recently learned that natural peanut butter is easier to stir if you store it upside -down outside of the fridge, but do what you feel comfortable with for your family. Lyatt Sandee from Ohio.💜💜🙏🤘😊
These are my favorite types of videos, the grocery store is my happy place.
Me to
Me too
I love the grocery store too. Even more now that it’s the only place we are allowed to go!!!!
Costco sells a cooked whole turkey breast for $3.99/lb. I buy that and sliced it myself for sandwich meat. No preservatives so it goes bad fast, but we keep slices in freezer to pull out as needed (small family)
Easy!!! Thank you for sharing!
My family (8 total) do this. Easy for turkey wraps
They also have ham that’s all the frees too. My boys have allergies so we can’t buy lunch meat anymore
Thank you for this!
I’m to am looking for non expensive lunch meat for the growing kiddos... them teens need protein!
Was going to say you could do a beef roast or roast chicken breast (turkey isnt a thing where I am from) and just slice it up. Guessing you could also make your own ham as well
For eating "cleaner"i would definitely recommend trying costco again for more options. They tend to have cleaner and more organic options than Sam's Club (at least in my area)! I know going in the store sucks BUT maybe you'll find some yummy, easy, clean foods!
Thanks for posting, this is inspiring and SO EYE OPENING!!
Fellow lincolnite, here! If you want farm fresh chickens delivered right to your door, plum Creek farms is the way to go! They are a family-run business and so amazing.
If you you buy a spiralizer, you can make zucchini or beet noodles to replace pasta. And I bet several of the kids would enjoy making the spirals
We love spaghetti squash with sauce.Zucchini great for replacing lasagne noodles.Make your own kale chips in the oven for a snack.
I've used queso fresco. It will be good on your bowls. It is mild tasting, and the texture is kind of like feta. This month sounds like an exercise in frustration, lol. It is annoying that there are not cleaner options. Also, southern tip...save the bacon grease from that expensive bacon. Use it to cook up your kale and eggs (and anything else!), more bacon flavor for your buck. 😁
Ha....my dad does that!
Queso fresco is awesome crumbled on everything from soups to chili, tacos, enchiladas, taco bowls, salads, everything
My husband and I bought a meat slicer, we roast a whole turkey and slice the breast for sandwich meat.
That’s a great idea!
You can do the same thing with ham and roast beef.
Costco has turkey (lunch meat) that is only turkey and salt. Highly recommend!
I’ll need to see if we have that here! Sounds like a good option!
For shrimp, we make Italian shrimp. You take a stick of butter on a cookie sheet and melt it, then slice lemons and place on there, add shrimp, and sprinkle on a pack of Italian seasoning. Bake for about 15 min
Sounds yummy
Ashley, thank you for this recipe. It sounds delicious and so easy! 😁
Sounds easy and good!
This sounds delicious
Egg sandwiches are a great option for lunches, especially since the kids love hard boiled eggs. Just add either chopped onions, chives or mayo, or all 3. You can also add a ton of salad to bulk up. I used to live on these when I was younger x
So inspired by you! I’m ready to do more healthy cooking again- the holidays were rough 😩 And you found the pot!! Love it! 😍
It’s such a big pot!!! We’ve used it a lot already. And yes, those holidays are so rough for healthy cooking. 🤣. Love January for getting back into it.
If the kids are missing pasta - there’s a lot of chickpea pasta on the market that is only one ingredient! And it tastes just like “normal” pasta!
Lentil pasta too
I thought chickpea pasta was gross :( I know a couple people who like it though
Barilla makes chick pea pasta and the only ingredient is chickpeas. It is sold at Walmart.
@@rosegroshek1218 if you eat it plain there is a small different but with butter, any sauce or seasoning it’s the exact same. Whole wheat is the, it does taste much different unless you eat it completely raw
Isn't most pasta just semolina flour and water? I'll check in the morning
I cook whole turkey breast and roast I bought a meat slicer on Amazon and slice them into lunch meat
I was stopping to recommend something similar--a whole brisket would be a good choice, and I love my meat slicer.
I’ve added frozen riced cauliflower to my fruit smoothies before and it gives it that milkshake consistency and it’s so delicious!
My suggestion for the lunch meat is to buy a turkey breast or whole chicken, roast and then use electric knife to thinly slice. You can even freeze if you like for later.
I think you are inspirational. Your children are respectful and helpful in the house . I enjoy your videos
Thank you for that!
Happy Birthday, Judah!!
It's smart to know what's in the food we're eating. Good job!
We recently discovered a sandwich filling made w chickpeas called "no-tuna salad". So good!
Just mash up the chickpeas somewhat, then mix w tahini (made from just sesame seeds, at Trader Joe's), Dijon or dry mustard, a little maple syrup, red or green onion, chopped celery, diced pickle, and sunflower seeds or pine nuts. Turned out way better than I'd expected.
I absolutely love how health conscious you are!
Cook a whole ham and slice/shred it for sandwiches! Can flavor it how you’d want too
Whole turkeys have been on a good sale, roast it off and slice - can also freeze if it’s a lot. Blt’s are a good sandwich option too. Open faced steak & cheese onion peppers (w/ your ground beef) with homemade bread. Its quick to make and could meal prep to put together later
Good idea, helped our small family not to go out and shop too much during Covid
Interestingly the European cheese have few ingredients versus their American counterparts! For lunchmeat you could roast a whole ham/turkey/pork fillet and buy a meat slicer to prepare super thin slices!
Actually because most hams are already cooked just slice or shave and it makes great sammiches!!
It’s crazy what companies put in things. My son is egg, dairy, soy & corn free . Soy and corn are in absolutely EVERYTHING. I understand the struggle !
Yes they are it is really horrible!
My daughter has to be soy and dairy free. It is so annoying how many things have soy in them. Often, there are things that don't have diary but of course there's soy.
@@rosannasauereisen2827 if there’s not one the other is in it. It’s so hard to find food for the littles.
Yes, cheddar is not naturally yellow, so you'll usually see Annatto in the ingredients used to make it yellow. But annatto is just the dried powder of a fruit, specifically used for coloring. So it is a real ingredient, totally natural and is perfectly safe to eat 😊
I've been reading labels on our food for sometime now and I am still shocked by what I read ! So scary. So pleased that you are doing this. It's harder at first but in the long run your family will be much healthier and your children are learning too 😘
I can’t wait to see how this goes for you! I’m afraid my family would revolt 😂
🤣 I thought the same. But no revolting yet!
I thought about trying it for a week without telling my girls. They may not notice
@@OurTribeofMany if u buy white cheddar, it doesnt have coloring
I love your channel. You are doing a great job and a wonderful mom.
@@OurTribeofMany Thanks for cheerfully sharing, what you've learned! There are lots of inexpensive ways to make brown rice, and beans - and quiche. If you haven't fully considered the multiple variations, you can easily make. Soaking beans and chick peas for at least 24 hours, or until they start to sprout. Also increases their nutritional values. Blessings to you, and your lovely family :)
You can make salmon patties out of the can salmon! It’s just a little flour, eggs, milk, and chopped onions! It’s really good!
Yes we have made those in the past! 👍☺️
@@OurTribeofMany I grew up in the 1960's and we didn't use flour. Mom used saline crackers. but you could make crackers. and no milk. eggs crackers onions, garlic, and what ever spices you want. I grew frying them, BUT I learned a few years ago to make them into patties, put on cooky sheet spray or brush oil your fav. oil on top of each patty.and bake them. and they will brown up in the oven. very good
oh but that is more than ONE ingredient LOL
@@HazelHammond1505 that's how I was raised on. Still make it like it
I love these for breakfast! I substitute ground flax for the flour.
This was so so helpful thank you! Honestly the most relevant and useful UA-cam video I’ve seen in ages😁
Your question re: lunch meat.... deli meat is so processed. My only suggestion would be to buy your own deli slicer. Cook up those chicken or turkey breasts and slice away!! Good luck!👍🏻😘
Hi from South Africa.
It's 11 years that I buy ones a month and sometimes some products for 2 to 6 months if it's on special. I still believe in you eat what you make so I still do most of our own cooking ect. We do not eat processed foods so for lunch you can also make some puld chicken sandwiches or what I do is I cook a roast. Cut it in small slices and put it in zip lock bags in the freezer and fridge. Your very own lunch meats. You can do that with chicken or Turkey as well.
Have a blessed day.
Ps... love your vlogs.
We are a family of 5 and we recently started shopping once a month for groceries. It’s been amazing! Less stress.
Love it!
For lunch meat I roast a turkey breast and a top round beef roast (season them) then I chill them all the way and slice them i to lunch meat. They slice better chilled. You cN find an actual lunch meat slicer super cheap on Amazon or you can just slice it thin
I love your channel in every way. Thanks so much for all you share with us.
When my kids were small I used to buy a small cooked joint of beef and my local butcher sliced the whole joint wafer thin for me and my kids used to love sandwiches made from it ❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️
Love this .Keeping it real
Enjoyed watching this! Smucker's is made near where my parents and I live. We used to have fresh goats milk when we raised goats and we used to make goat milk cheese. We have aloe plants here.
I applaud you for giving it a try!!! A few bumps in the road, but you're learning as you go!!
so excited to see how your month goes! Ive never heard of the 1 ingredient foods idea, but I love it! good luck!
Preservatives will be found in seafood that is frozen. The only way to avoid would be to go to a fish market where they freeze their catch.
For sandwich meat you got a ham or roast beef cook and slice them yourself, you should also be able to freeze the meat after you prep it
This is what I love about you Sarah! I watch other large families and they're focus is on just feeding their families without considering the health benefits/consequences. I understand just feeding a large family itself is hard enough but you manage to do it and keep it healthy and make it look easy too. Good work Sarah and Solo, keep it up!
My mom buys that queso fresco all the time and it is a staple in our Mexican household you can put it Pinto beans .my mom makes a dish of Mexican rice Cooked pinto beans boiled eggs and crumble some queso fresco on it and it is so good. growing up we didn’t have that much money but my mom always bought that to elevate a dish
You hit the nail on the head. Our foods are packed with additives that are poisoning us, hence the higher rates of cancer, mental illness, etc. So hard to eat clean! I hope you find some family favorite meals with this adventure.
Thank you for posting. The Daisy brand cottage cheese is a good option.
We love chickpeas so much that I buy them online, dried and in bulk to save money and control the additives. Twice a week I will soak 2 cups of dried chickpeas overnight, drain, and cook in the Instant Pot for 18 minutes. Then we freeze some to add to soups, stews, or curries and use the rest in salads and to make hummus. My freezer has a some meat, but mostly contains my home cooked bean collection: black beans, navy beans, white beans, pinto beans, and kidney beans. The Instant Pot was the best appliance I purchased in the last decade. We use it so much I'm told Santa is bringing be another one, soon.
After our trip next month it’s clean eating for us!! Thanks for sharing what y’all are doing and I can’t wait to see the meals
If the milk gallon has a circle indentation that is to allow for expansion when frozen
If you're feeling up for it, making seitan is super quick to pull together & makes great lunch "meat". A million recipes & flavors for it, my current fav beefy one is really well spiced & some also incorporate chickpea & spices like sage for a more chickeny flavor. Anyway I love it & thought I'd share
I'm super excited for this! With my recent diagnosis of heart disease were trying to cut the sodium preservatives and it feels impossible without making everything from scratch. Can't wait to see what you make for dinners!
I am really enjoying this!
Half the stuff that is added to American food is illegal in the European Union :D
Probably y I can buy stuff in the U.K. but how long will that last now the U.K. is out of the eu.
It's really hard to find real food, that's not tainted..even toothpaste, shampoo's now..it's beyond ridiculous..they put that crap in it to last longer,..and extra weight..in meats, cheese..
@@castledykesfarm3396 I heard that bird’s eyes freeze their peas on the van outside the filed.
@@RockSimmer-gal4God Food quality/regulations is stricter in UK than EU food even when we were part of EU, Buy local food and eat in season, home grown is always better for you. Our grated cheese has potato starch added, not wood pulp as that is not legal in UK.
@twinkletoes. There was a vote in house of commons May last year about loosening food standards regulations post Brexit in order to be able to-do trade deals with the US... Not sure what the implications are.
I usually buy the organic canned beans from Aldi. They're usually just the bean, salt and water. Conventional canned beans usually have preservatives.
I love everything about this!
Oh this makes me so happy I need a best thank you I was so worried that you were not going to do grocery halls anymore because I thought I had missed it. I have been having a really rough time lately, long story short I was a bicycle accident in May and went downhill until right before Thanksgiving. I had back surgery and now relearning how to walk. Your videos bring a smile to my face and I really appreciate you making the content.
Eli is so unique! Remember his superhero phase where he wore the Spider-Man costume non-stop? And he was working on his muscles? (He's still strong, won the plank contest.) And now with the hat!💗💗💗
Hey! I hope that everyone is well. I had the thought that for sandwiches you could buy a whole ham and cook it, cook a roast for roast beef, cook a whole chicken ect. It's a lot more work but you'd know exactly what was in it.
Ham is often cured with loooots of stuff as far as what I see to buy here. The roast beef is a great idea!
Also cook chicken as well ... if you could
Turkey breast roast, pork tenderloin, whole butt pork roast any of those could be used as "luncheon" meat. But I would rethink wraps & sandwiches and maybe feed them the roast beef & cheese with crackers ( homemade " lunchables"), or deconstructed sandwiches and you can use thicker cut sliced meats or meats made into salad ,( think like your chicken salad or egg salad) we called this deviled sandwiches. But mayo is a hard one ingredient, unless you make it.
I would love to do this but I'm cooking so much already I'm interested to see how you handle it all
You are precious. Love these so very much!!
Girl grow your own! We have a tiny yard amd plant every inch we can. It makes it so much healthier, more convenient, and cost effective.
I live in Texas, I keep aloe it is the one plant I cant seem to kill. I would keep it in a pot because it spreads like crazy if you let it. I dont even water mine and only bring it in when we get to freezing Temps. Good luck, love your channel!!!
Seth is such a smiley baby! :) So adorable. And the one ingredient challenge you doing sounds like an amazing idea! I think i will try it!
Live watching your grocery haul. Waiting to see how you all make out with the new change in eating.👍🏾❤❤❤
Eye opening for sure!
For lunch meat, I just cook a whole chicken or roast in the crock pot. Shred or slice. It's great in wraps, on salads, or as a "lunch meat" on sandwiches.
Perfect! Thanks!!
I do the same thing with a whole chicken. Lunch meat got too expensive and bad ingredients. Haven't bought lunch meat in over a yr.
We do that with a turkey breast
We love egg sandwiches. Fried egg, mustard, lettuce and tomato on bread (we sometimes toast the bread)😃
I applaud you for doing the best you can for your family! I sooooo appreciate your honesty about the sweets and the "mess" in the kitchen. My kitchen always looks like that and we are only 2 people! We are also trying to eat cleaner these days. Very frustrating but "trying" is better than doing nothing at all.
The queso fresco cheese is really good fried up in a pan. I like to pre-slice it into portions and pan fry with a little oil or butter. Cook until browned on both sides and serve with a squeeze or lemon or lime. So good!
Hi Sarah! I use fresh garlic I bring home like 20 bulbs of garlic and I mince it in the food processor and I cover it with olive oil so it doesn’t oxidize an store it in a quart plastic or glass container. I love my freshly minced garlic. I stored it in the freezer when I went out of town and it was still just as fresh tasting. It’s such a time saver to have it done in advance and I really like the fresh stuff.
Soooooo smart!!!
Do you think you can can it? I want to grow garlic then maybe pressure can it in the little jelly jars.
@@teambeining yes you can, can it. I do it with water and for 40 minutes but it does lose flavor. I also make pickles out of the scapes. I am going to try the chop it up and store in oil method and see how it works. I may throw some chopped ginger in it for added flavor.
Salmon Croquettes are wonderful and the salmon goes along way so you can feed a large family. Just add onion and egg with seasonings of choice and crackers or bread crumbs like a meatloaf and I air fry mine. My mom used to sub jack mackrel in the make it go farther.............not sure if it is clean though.
I grew up eating salmon croquettes I love them today
I'm going to be checking my food out now. Thank you
My family is doing the Daniel Fast right now, and we have a “Crazy Richards” peanut butter that’s just peanuts and it’s pretty good!
Mary’s Nest on u tube is a great source for traditional foods.
When I was cooking for a ton of peeps everyday, I had a meat slicer and sliced my own roasted meats. Pork loin, Turkey breast, and roast beef were their favs
for lunch meat, try salting/curing beef brisket and roast when ready. once cooled, it can be sliced thin, tastes like pastrami.
The best idea I would have would be egg salad or chicken salad, and use home made mayo :) It’s super easy to make in the blender.
I bought that salmon from Aldis last month...it was very good
She said she could & so she did‼️ With the Grace of God busy Mom of 10‼️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Love that you are doing this. Queso fresco is a topper. It’s a fresh (fresco), mild cheese. We love it over eggs or beans. It does not melt and will lose moisture and composition if cooked. Queso Oaxaca, same Sam’s brand, is a delicious melting cheese-long cheesy strands. Perfect for quesadillas. God bless all of you.
Yes, you really have to watch out for added items in so called one ingredient goods. Frozen Fish and even frozen fruits usually have added ingredients the companies don’t deem a bad added item. Salt ,citric acid etc.
For lunch meats try tuna, canned chicken , egg salad
I love your Grocery hauls !! First time respond
Happy New years.
For salads/sandwiches - corned beef/silverside in Instant Pot or Slow Cooker - 1 onion, 1 celery stick, 1 carrot, 1 bulb garlic, 2 bay leaves, tsp black peppercorns, 1 tsp cloves - add to Instant Pot/Slow Cooker and cover with water and cook according to weight of meat. We love it.🧡
I've started making more of our food from scratch. I'm trying to get away with all the "junk" in the food we eat. Get a turkey breast and cook it and make your own lunch meat. It's not all that hard to do once you taste the difference!
You can get pasta that’s just Durum Wheat Semolina. I know the 365 brand just used Durum Wheat Semolina, and water. Not sure what others
Loved your video!! I used an aloe plant to treat my sunburn when i was in AZ-nothing better! I'm sure that will come in handy!
omggg i have ten siblings! we’re all grown ish now but it’s so fun seeing other big families 💗
Daisy cottage cheese just like their sour cream is great no extra
Daisy is my brand only loyalty. There is only cream salt enzymes. Both cottage cheese & sour cream
@@bethcacace6020 yep exactly
I came to tell her this too!
I cook a silverside for a meal and then I have meat left over for toasties the next night ,and also lunch meat. Aussies understand what I’m talking about 🇦🇺.
And kiwis hahaha this is so true though
South Africans as well 🙂
The Kerry gold butter is amazing. I buy the salted for spreading on bread, veggies, potatoes.
We cook a turkey and slice it or shred it for sandwiches. Also get a fresh ham and prepare it the same way. We make chicken salad, egg salad , tuna salad and homemade pimento cheese. All for sandwiches.
Roast you're shrimp or scallops with the veggies and some Old Bay seasoning! Yum!:)
Not hating on this or anything! I Absolutely adore y’all! Just be careful with labeling food as ‘clean’. I developed an ED in my young teenager years and it still hunts me because of people around me labeling food as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ or ‘clean’. Just be careful with that. ❤️❤️ Healthy eating is amazing and that’s what I strive to do. But do be careful with labeling food.
I absolutely agree with you. I think the word “simple” is more accurate than “clean.”
Sarah, you are such a great person. Thanks. I get Sam’s delivered and I love the frozen fruit mix you bought. I also got some tips on cheese.
Love this! I am trying to make our diet clean as well!
Almost every packaged food has some sort of preservative additives. If you want one ingredient foods you may have to buy organic only.
Costco has a lot more “cleaner” cheese options. They also have a cleaner lunch meats, but you have to look around they also have a lot of bad ones.
Yes, I love the pick up option at Sam’s Club! I love it! I wish Costco had it too.
When you start to eat, clean eating for your body. Your brain works alot better. And you yourself feel better. Thanks for your info . I love you, and your husband's chemistry together.
Organic turkey deli meat , like Applegate, usually only has one ingredient, Turkey! Good luck!🍀
I’ll look for it thank you!
