I love falling asleep to your videos. I have lots of hours in the long dark but only just working to toward survivor. Your tips have been so important. I was to scared to go to Timberwolf mountain for so long now it and ash canyon are my favourite. Loving this game
The joy of falling a sleep while watching a video is that you get to watch it again. My favourite jab is strawberry, but a friend of mine once made rosehip jab.
New player tips. 1. Always carry at least 1 stone minimum. Used for scaring off wolves. 2. Torches are your best friend! Predators fear fire. Uses torches to light fires, to save matches. 30% or better are preferred. Making torches is best. 100% 3. Search new areas with a lit torch. There's hidden gear and items in hard to find spots. Look everywhere! Under beds, around buildings, behind things. You'll be surprised what you can miss.
No bro wolves just attack you with stones just use a torch and throw it at them when they are close they always usually run away no problem and never agro
@@sumdumgoyboyy The idea is you can throw a stone at a wolf to get it to stop charging you and it will run away, you can also just aim the stone at them and they'll run away.

one of my very first stalker runs i had been holed up in the furthest cabin away from the camp office on the lake, was probably on day 40 ish and had not found a damn rifle ANYWHERE after searching like three different territories (well before i learned the maps and spawn patterns). turned out the damn thing was right behind that cabin the whole time and i’d spent most of my time in ML lol
Hey everyone, hope you like the video! If you want to see more of this type, I have a Stalker series coming up and anything not covered in this video will be done there (e.g. I never returned to cook that fish - sorry!) Also: I apologise, but during this recording the mic picked up my PC fan. This is subtle and you may not even hear it, but it is there, particular during quiet scenes. I have since changed settings to improve this (but its not 100% removed) for future videos, but in the meantime I apologise for any inconvenience. Stay awesome, survivors!
Zak, I'd guess you edit with high-quality cans on your ears? UA-cam playback consumption is overwhelmingly via lower-fidelity desktop speakers or mobile device outputs. It's excellent you care about your fans and your vids -- and the audio here (as always) is terrific! Jubel and keep up the magick, Dr. Wolf-Shaman! :)
I was playing last night (my first ever run) and I finally found a rifle! I started in mountain town and scoured the entire map for the rifle with no luck. I got attacked by the bear at the bridge trying to search under the bridge. That's actually where I found the revolver. I moved onto mystery lake and for 20 days I searched the entire map and no rifle. I lived off fish, one deer and all of the cattails. On day 38 I began my move to costal highway, but I wanted to check the dam one more time before I left. I realized I never explored behind the dam, so I took that door out, walked across the spooky ledge, and in those large pipes next to the building I found the rifle! I actually had to leave a bunch of my stuff at the dam and walk all the way back to my main base to grab my rifle ammunition to take with me since it was now worth carrying! Moose bag here I come.
Just wanted to say I love your videos! TLD is my favorite game by far, I have over 500 hours. Your videos are so helpful- I've always played on Pilgrim! I'm getting the courage to branch out!
This is my chance! Zack, I love your videos, I'm definitely not at interloper level yet, but still you give tons of useful info and your videos are very entertaining to me, so for that I thank you. You were the main reason I got back into the game, and im currently going hard on a survival play through.
I hardly ever comment but felt like I needed to on this. Discovered your channel a few months ago and have been absolutely hooked! Your NOGOA series is immense and your playthroughs and walkthroughs are very thorough and entertaining. Certainly my most favourite TLD player, and I've been searching for a long while lol Loved this video and would certainly enjoy watching more of you playing through the lower difficulties or difficulties with more loot. Looking forward to your stalker playthrough. Would you consider doing another faithful cartographer like series for each region (sort of like what you did here, with the detailed explanations of the map) but for lower difficulties? Dunno about anyone else but I'll definitely be tuned in for each upload. Just a suggestion but love your content regardless. Keep up the excellent work and all the best with all that you do, and rosehips jam is something I'd like to try at least once lol✌️

Hey Zak, One tip I'd like to offer is that when you come across the filing cabinets that have half open drawers, Look in the OPEN drawers! Sometimes you can find items in them as well. Also look in the sinks in bathrooms. Sometimes you can find a flare or other things in them. Maybe now that so many things have changed, so many new food crafting items and new bunker locations, maybe you could do a new survival guide. I've been playing this since before story mode came out and I still learn things from your videos. You are amazing, Zak and I really enjoy watching you do a run. Thank you for sharing your time with us especially now that you have another who needs your time and attention so. Give her a hug for me please.
25:00 Another place for the mag lens is behind the pillow in the bed by the stove. I discovered that one by accident in the dark looking for the bed!! I think it's a new location since the TFTFT update. I normally play Interloper but I started a new run of Voyager to play the Signal Void challenge. Thank you for making a complete guide for this level.
I really hope they add rosehip Jam into the game! Thank you for making all these walk-throughs, regardless of length. 5:25:13 is when I started writing this comment. Love your videos! Keeping up with your new interloper run too!
Found this video a year later, but .... "Jam". And I'll be using this walk-through in my own journey through this game. Any video is time-consuming to edit and post. I can't imagine what you went through to make this one. Thank you for so much hard work!
Love ur videos man. You helped me a great deal when I first got the game a while back. I appreciate it. Still watch your videos in case of new tips and tricks.
Rose hip jam. Thanks so much for all the useful info! I'm a physically disabled gamer. Apart from some controller issues yet to be sorted out, I'm really enjoying the game on pilgrim for 31 days so far. I'm putting your tips to good use! 👍
This is great. I feel it's important to legitimize people playing on lower difficulties, and even just the making and posting of a Voyageur guide helps to accomplish that.
Great video Zak! You were talking about how to find your way when you get lost due to fog or blizzard, I thought the campfire idea was just fine. But another tip I have found useful was that if you drop a stick, the single end will always point North. That has saved me on more than one occasion when for one reason or another starting a fire was not a very easy and I had lost my sense of direction. Cheers!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I just bought the game and I try to get the hang of it, this video was really useful and I watched it with pleasure. Keep it up - JAMMED
For some map knowledge on Mystery Lake, the stove in the deadfall area points to the railroad. Simply make a left at the railroad to get to the camp office.
Rose hip jam sounds interesting, haha! 😂 Great video!! I've only been watching your content for a few weeks now, but I've been absolutely loving it so far. I've learned so much! I'm excited to try catching one of your streams live sometime soon. Your community sounds so friendly! ❤
Just watched the whole video it was amazing, think Ill go enjoy some Rose Hip Jam! Put this on during my stalker playthrough, currently fully looting ash canyon. Keep up the good work Zak!
Not sure if it’s the same one but I think that Rifle saved my life when I made my way up there. Almost didn’t see it mounted in the shelf. Blizzard rolled in and left me starving and I used those few precious bullets to find food
Always love your videos! I would usually play voyager, but have spent the last few weeks trying interloper. My brain is exploding at all the loot on voyager! I just died in interloper (again), think I might switch back to voyager for a bit and practice some skills!
For some reason I only play this game in the winter! So - I have been starved for TLD scenery since April.... Watching this video has me enthusiastic to random-spawn into some desolate snow-blown corner of Great Bear island and start exploring. Enough with these silly FP shooters and zombie games! Time for some solitude. Good video as always Zak.
This video taught me so much and I finally understood how boring lower difficulty is : I'm a very unskilled player , but I don't find any fun playing piligrim/voyager. You have the best clothing in like second house you enter , every animal runs away and you can't really hunt , each house has food for generations. The only problem occuring is weight because I used to not know what I might need in another adventure and carry everything. Hunting (and therefore animal hides , meat , guts) is useless, because you can easily survive of what you find ; instruments , except crowbar , are useless , because you don't really need to craft warm clothing, as you can fight just as warm anywhere . You can literally survive by fishing and melting snow in 1 location for a 100 days , not knowing about so much beautiful locations.
If you are not sure, the prepper location you were looking for at 1:42.00 should have been to your right around that set of big rocks as you went up the slope. This is one of the best ones IF it spawns as it is a clothing cache and will have some of the best clothing early game that you will find.
Great video! Weight management is big deal in surviving, so it can be hard to choose which loot to carry. In case anyone is wondering: 1 kg = 1.1 lb., 5 kg = 11 lbs., 45 kg = 99 lbs. Also 2 liters = 0.56 gallons.
I recommend playing story mode on the easiest setting for new players. Being able to save the game is awesome for learning and experimenting. By Episode 3, you'll be fighting Timberwolves, even on Easy. I highly recommend doing all side quests first! The rewards will be a great help especially early on. Some of the best items in the game can only be found by completing side quests.
I completely disagree. Story mode is an empty husk of a gamemode designed to bore you and your grandchildren to death. I'd recommed first starting with voyager to learn the very basics and then jump to stalker or interloper. Personally went with the latter and never bothered with stalker either, but its up to you.
My experience as a new player that started with story was great with chapter 1 but it all goes downhill from there as the game was limiting me in all the wrong ways.
@@ruxcooking Story mode has always been shit, and always will be. It is fundamentally flawed, and cannot be fixed. I'd rather stare at the sun than bother with that absolute snoozefest. Survival mode, however, is my favourite game of all time. Interloper specifically.
I've never had rose hip jam! LOL. And just so you know, Zak, I never sleep through one of your videos that I haven't already seen. But if I've seen it before, well that a different matter. I can always count on you to lull me to sleep. 😁 And I'm really, really thankful for that!
First of all - i really enjoy your TLD content, great stuff! One thing I've read (no idea where it was) about the crows that fly in a certain direction is that they mark some kind of danger (bear, wolfs) somewhere in the area from the direction where they're coming from. But Idk if its true
One thing I'm really surprised they never implemented was ways to preserve food! Having an in-game item you could build to hang meat or use salt to cure meat would be welcomed additions.
Imagine this game with this big map and quite a big player lobby as well. Not so often that you encounter people all the time but see traces here and there one a few in game days maybe, if you dont group up, with a few in game long term objectives of some sort. so cool!
Stims then cause you to completely run out of energy after that one minute. Very important to mention that part. First time I used a stim, it literally killed me.
I always carry a pot of Rosehip jam for emegencies. You never know. It's a bit daft that the wolf can smell the meat and guts etc only when you are carrying it, but can't smell it when it is on the ground.
This is basically my first 6 years of playing this game... xD I mainly stuck to Mystery Lake and surroundings, also loved Broken Railroad. Every time I'd stop playing for a while and come back to the game I'd start anew because I lost my momentum/flow, so most of the time I'd be completely looting Mystery Lake and making all the hide armors. Eventually mastering the area and getting bored, yet too scared to take big risks after having done so much on that save and sticking to Milton, Broken Railroad and Mystery Lake. It took a long while before I went to Timberwolf Mountain because I was intimidated by the idea of a wolf covered area as I feared multiple confrontations hahaha... So I'd stop playing for a while, after coming back I'd not continue and finally travel places, I'd start anew... Watching this is somewhat nostalgic as well as annoying XD
having grown up on vancouver island it sure is funny to see it represented the way it is in the long dark. vancouver island is an extremely forested landscape, it is extremely easy to get lost in the woods and its very dense forest, i dont think there is a game engine that could represent the temperate rainforest that exists on the island.
TLD isn't based on Vancouver Island, we get like 2 weeks of snow per year if that. It's just a fictional island they say is in northern Canada. It is funny though as nowhere in Canada actually resembles the game.
Hey Zac,great tip on the water but if it's real life I just like to keep it simple and would just cook the snow to make clean water, I won't remember that tip you did.😊😊
I wish TLD was more consistent. Meat outdoors acts like it's in a fridge while animal carcasses freeze solid but nothing happens to a bottle of water or soda left outdoors
Man you make it look so easy… I finally managed to survive in mystery lake for 10 days following this guide .. please show us how to get to other regions and how to craft ammunition
aggree, i'd love to see a guide to all the regions, specially places of interest and the most optimal routes to get to each location and recommendations on which places to setup as a base.
@@stanedgie5910In my opinion though finding all the areas your self brings most of the wonder to this game. Just a forewarning once you’ve seen every thing for the first time it’s all business and survival at that point most of the wonder goes away after that, and you’ll just worry about difficulty 😢 Explore! Enjoy that wonder much love ~
Tenho um save na dificuldade mais fácil com uns 400 dias, só pra explorar o jogo mesmo, acho o TLD fascinante e viciante. All the branch saplings I find are lonely single saplings haha I've found 3 in about 40 days. I'm praying for the day I find a cluster of 5 like that, I have arrowheads and feathers just sitting in storage for the day I find them.
Love the rose hip jam idea, I really enjoyed the walk through and it definitely helped me learn a few things but one thing I've been wondering is if bear meat or any meat for the matter if it can de spawn outside bc I've left tons of meat outdoors so it doesn't spoil but sometimes it all disappears
Zak question about jerrycan versus the smaller lamp oil bottle. Is there some game mechanic for weight that makes the larger jerrycan more efficient? I'm not currently playing but I thought 1kg of oil was the same and the container has no intrinsic weight. Or is it just that we don't want to see 2 or 3 small bottles in inventory but just the large can. But I think I recall a streamer commenting about the efficiency of the jerrycan. Edit ah OK. Watching on my phone so hard to see some writing but it appears something like 1.8kg of oil weighs 1.6kg? Sooooo some kind of localized anti-gravity caused by the em disruptions. Oh no wait what if it's the CANS causing the trouble??? Destroy all cans I'm 🤔
I have an idea for a guide/guides you could create, as you already have the knowledge needed for them. I'm talking about LOOT AREAS. I'm doing an interloper right now (day 60), I've went through PV, ML, FM, and recently I made a trip for the technical backpack as well as the summit. I have been following your video on these two areas, but I still know I've missed some of the locations on the map (had to, was dealing with -30C every other day), maybe you could compile a guide where you show on maps areas that are worth to check out, and areas that can be skipped unless someone wants to survive for like 1000 day+ where every single cloth makes a difference.
03:16 nothing is more annoying then Astrid saying:" Come one little fire" (like talking to a f dog, while not being able to make it in 4 tries, I often swear to her in those situations so Will McKenzie shaaaallll be!!
I've not been playing long. I was unnecessarily proud of myself for immediately knowing you'd spawned by unnamed pond

In case anyone is wondering: 1 kg = 1.1 lb., 5 kg = 11 lbs., 45 kg = 99 lbs. Also 2 liters = 0.56 gallons.
Small error.. 1 key = 2.2 lbs. 1008 grams.. u misprinted 1 key = 1.1..
Hey Zak, love your videos. Never stop saying boom. 🙂
First of all - i really enjoy your TLD content, great stuff!
One thing I've read (no idea where it was) about the crows that fly in a certain direction is that they mark some kind of danger (bear, wolfs) somewhere in the area from the direction where they're coming from. But Idk if its true
It is not true :) I have a video abouy crows on my channel and even the developers said they were pure ambience. Also, thank you for your kind words
@@Zaknafein ty for claryfying 😀
I play stalker or custom on a regular basis, yet here I am watching a 5 hour 30 min vid on how to play voyager.
One thing I'm really surprised they never implemented was ways to preserve food! Having an in-game item you could build to hang meat or use salt to cure meat would be welcomed additions.
U must b King Dark,,,u certainly kno the game,,wintermute was fun,now time for survival,Tks for all the tips ,say prayers I'm gonna die.
Voyageur… brings me back to the old days. A perfect difficulty for beginners IMO.
Fantastic video. Thank you!
How did it kill you it restores 15% health instantly
I always carry a pot of Rosehip jam for emegencies. You never know. It's a bit daft that the wolf can smell the meat and guts etc only when you are carrying it, but can't smell it when it is on the ground.
Don’t forget to bless the man and leave a like!
This is basically my first 6 years of playing this game... xD
I mainly stuck to Mystery Lake and surroundings, also loved Broken Railroad.
1:54 It's "Voyageur," referring to 18th and 19th century French Canadian fur traders. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyageurs
Love that rosehip jam almost as much as I love these walk through. I would love to see you do a custom game....your version of NOGOA.
Such a video is on its way:)
having grown up on vancouver island it sure is funny to see it represented the way it is in the long dark. vancouver island is an extremely forested landscape, it is extremely easy to get lost in the woods and its very dense forest, i dont think there is a game engine that could represent the temperate rainforest that exists on the island.
TLD isn't based on Vancouver Island, we get like 2 weeks of snow per year if that. It's just a fictional island they say is in northern Canada. It is funny though as nowhere in Canada actually resembles the game.
You might want to check the head spacing on that Enfield that's the most likely reason it will some times JAM! 😂
Hey Zac,great tip on the water but if it's real life I just like to keep it simple and would just cook the snow to make clean water, I won't remember that tip you did.😊😊
great video Zak. again lol. lots of love my friend
Thank you for this tasty jar of rosehip jam!
I wish TLD was more consistent. Meat outdoors acts like it's in a fridge while animal carcasses freeze solid but nothing happens to a bottle of water or soda left outdoors
There's a mod that makes meat freeze while outside but yeah, a vanilla answer to the meat fridge would be awesome
I still remember my first time finding a lookout no guide no anything. It was wonderful ~
“You’ve gotta look everywhere coz… there’s beans.
All the branch saplings I find are lonely single saplings haha I've found 3 in about 40 days. I'm praying for the day I find a cluster of 5 like that, I have arrowheads and feathers just sitting in storage for the day I find them.
I cannot wait to get back into this game I've missed it havnt played since it was on gamepass I was so sad to realize I never bought it
I can't believe you didn't find any rosehip jam! Lol
Missed out on rosebud jam... Double whammy!
I do love jam. Especially rose hip jam. Imagine if that was in the game!
3:41:41
There is also one in the control hut in bleak inlet
Also: Jam
Rose-hip jam sounds amazing..
This video is really my Jam……could possibly be called Rosehip Jam
Rosehip jam does sound amazing!
Zak, I do love me many jars of Rosehip-jam. :D
rose hip jam 😋 💥 boom! 💥 😄
Haha wow that was fast! Thank you!
It makes little sense tbh. It just works thay way I guess :D
JAM! (is that the right way to write it?)
Started a new Voyager run and spend my first 4 hours with you in ML :)
thank you for all your effort Zak!
Your intro music is so Amazing i love it
i would like a rosehip jam on the game ;) thank you for the 5+ hours with useful tips.
Good idea, I have thought of something similar for region guides - but just a map overview might just be easier. Will give it a think. Thank you!
@@Zaknafein I thank you for great guides, helped me to transition from Pligrim to Interloper ♡
The fishing shack on the left is My Shack so anyway you can hangout there but don't take anything
Rose hip jam thanks for the video
03:16 nothing is more annoying then Astrid saying:" Come one little fire" (like talking to a f dog, while not being able to make it in 4 tries, I often swear to her in those situations so Will McKenzie shaaaallll be!!
I'd like to try rosehip jam.
