    Well done Joe, this was a very clear breakdown of what we ,or the journalists claim to know, about what has happened. Having said that, I do hope the fan channels (and a lot are doing this) don't mimic the general media in their haste to beat United and Ineos continuously too hard and swell a general negativity towards the club. The mass media do a very good job of that. The fan channels were always different in not easily joining the journalist bandwagon. Ineos inherited an absolute crap show from the Glazers and Ratcliffe has not invested 2 billion pounds to see the club deteriorate further. Tough and unpopular decisions were obviously going to happen. I'm going to give them 2 years before judging them too seriously at the moment.

    Interesting to look back at this after the Bournemouth and Newcastle humiliations. Makes you wonder if in fact Ashworth was the respected football man who was talking sense. Ashworth had misgivings about bringing in a coach in Amorim so wedded to a 3-4-2-1 system which has no track record of success in England didn’t suit the players available, especially lack of legs in midfield and lack of wing backs. Ratcliffe clearly rates himself highly and thought it would all be onwards and upwards when he got his hands on things. Not looking so easy now. It’s hard to point to anything Ratcliffe has done so far that has been a success.

  • @askwhy3659

    Why do you, and others, keep insisting that Dan Ashworth was the one who wanted to keep Erik ten Hag or decided to retain him? It’s clear that this decision was made before Ashworth’s appointment. More importantly, he gave an interview explicitly stating that he had nothing to do with it. This feels like a convenient attempt to shift blame onto someone leaving the club, making him the scapegoat for everything that has gone wrong, while those remaining come out looking better by comparison. 0:02

    I rate INEOS even more for this. They could’ve played it safe and kept Dan Ashworth because they’re pals but they chose what was best for the club. They gave Dan a chance to step up in his career and he was way out of his depth. People get sacked everyday for incompetency, it’s really not that deep. I trust Omar Berrarda to get the right replacement based on his work at Barca and City rather than keeping Dan Ashworth bringing in Newcastle and Brighton recommendations.

      @Els4000 Місяць тому +19

      Your reasons for believing Ashworth is crap were well known as his views before INEOS went and got him. We all knew it. If the things you’re talking about were the reasons then INEOS did zero due diligence and are even more inept.
      Also Ratcliffe said he wasn’t going to interfere and instead leave it to the football people, yet here we are with Ratcliffe yet again getting involved.
      And this comes after the mid season ticket price disgrace fronted by Ratcliffe and his lame detached views about what Fulham fans pay.
      Lastly, don’t get me started on the public search for ETHs replacement pre cup final then totally bottling it post cup final and extended useless ETHs contract (wasting yet more FFP money).

    I think the rarest ability of every leader, be it president, CEO, manager, etc. is the ability to anticipate and foresee things coming your way and have a solution prior to the inevitable outcome and be decisive with your decisions when the time comes.
    From what I gather from all the news coming around lately is not only Dan Ashworth didn’t have the solution when EtH was sacked, but he was completely unprepared for it and didn’t even expect the sacking, hoping that his opinion of keeping the manager will be respected by the ownership.
    Now, Dan Ashworth was a director, an executive and every executive’s job is to find the best solutions in order to implement the board’s decisions. Sure, you can give the board your opinion or you can give them your feedback, but ultimately, when they decide to do something or to go on a path, you have to be prepared to execute that task. And you have to be decisive.

    • @gruffy4967
      @gruffy4967 23 дні тому

      And now what do you think?
      Ashworth was correct, Amorim isn’t the right man for the job. The Wolves manager has arrived and quickly made the players better, results have improved even with no new players. Amorim has arrived and made the players infinitely worse. The team looks appalling and relegation fodder. By his own admission, he only plays one way, and that way will not cut it in the Premier League.

    • @andreichivu8892
      @andreichivu8892 23 дні тому

      I still think Ashworth wasn’t the right fit for Ineos. Or for SJR’s taste to be more specific.
      I think he likes slow decision making, he likes gathering and analyzing tons of data before making a decision, hence the request to hire a data analytics company when he was asked to come up with a replacement for EtH which didn’t bide well with a billionaire’s mindset.
      Business owners and/or executives rarely have time to waste, especially in moments of crisis. They want everyone to act fast, like a lawyer. You pay a lawyer for the expertise, the experience and the knowledge they already possess. You don’t have time to wait for them to rush to the library.
      SJR is exactly that type of person and even if Berrada was the one that hired Amorim, I’m sure Ratcliffe gave him the green light. Ultimately, if Amorim project fails, at least he himself is responsible 100%.
      And I also think that was the commitment and dedication he expected from Ashworth and when he didn’t get it, he fired him. Plain and simple.
      Regarding Amorim, I don’t think he is a bad idea for the future. His style doesn’t suit some of the players he has now but at least he knows how to get a struggling team to win championships. Consecutive championships. And, after each year, to lose his star players and go at it again, that’s huge.

      @@gruffy4967 still, he was an underdog for Benfica and Porto. Plus, Inter got to a CL final playing 3-5-2, Atalanta plays the most attractive football in Italy in a 3-4-3, Alonso went undefeated to win the championship in Germany with a 3-4-3.
      When everybody else becomes obsessed to replicate Pep’s football, there will always be some others that will challenge his status quo. Trends come and go in football as they do in life. In 5 years time maybe we will see the 4-4-2 system back.
      If a manager knows a system well and has the right players, why not trust him? Hell, even Pep tried the 3-4-3 in Barcelona for a few games in the begging. Cruyff tried it too, even though only on a few occasions.
      If we get the recruitment right, we might catch a break. Defensively I like it, we’re conceding half the shots we were conceding with EtH. We were dominated each game possession wise. Now we had the possession both on Etihad and Emirates.
      And you have to factor in that Amorim had very few opportunities to conduct proper training sessions. He said it himself in the last press conference, he only had the time for 4 training sessions.
      Let’s see coming February, provided we get knocked out of FA Cup, if he’ll have the chance to conduct more training sessions. Let’s see if we’ll be better then.

    It might be as simple as we brought in too many people to run this club. Even with Ashworth going we still have Berrada, Wilcox and Vivell to run the sporting side. Add to that Blanc, Brailsford and Ratcliffe who are all gonna have opinions on how things should be run even if they're not involved in the day to day business. I see so many people being distracted by "He wanted Soutgate", but the rumours about Southgate being an option came long before Ashworth was at United. For me the buck stops with Sir Jim as he is the Co-owner. He was the guy running his mouth about Ashworth being a 10/10. Clearly there was no real due dilligence carried out. The Geordies were glad to see the back of Ashworth and as an Arsenal fan I don't want him anywhere near my Club.
    Obviously I'm being overly dramatic and pessimistic, but if Sir Jim runs United in the same way he's run Nice, many Untied fans will see the Glazers incompetence as wizardry compared to what Sir Jim has in store for the Club.

    It does seem very likely that Dan Ashworth was the one responsible for not only keeping ETH but EXTENDING his contract when not necessary or deserved!

For this reason you get remarks like not 'getting along with other managers'. Not one word about Ashworth applying the company's STRATEGY or not. Also, not one reason why Ratcliff in his position as shareholder has intervened in daily operations. My advice is for all bloggers to either study business administration or to limit themselves to watching football games. As sporting director one of their core primary roles is in hiring new players and managers. The rumors' going Old Trafford is that Ashworth had no say in who the new manager was going to be. If the rumor is correct then it would mean his position as sporting director has no power at the club if others are going over his head and doing transfers/hiring without his input or say so. If you have people undermining you all the time, that position becomes untenable and the person has no choice but to leave.
    The club will always suffer from rumors because of who they are. Every transfer the press always link the club to nearly every important player on the planet as 'someone the club is interested in'. The manager situation is a very good example of that. People at the club talk about the manager situation and suddenly the press make articles of 'United are reported to be interested in X'. I have no doubt Ashworth had a good idea of who he wanted to be United's next manager but he kept it a very close secret.
    As for him wanting ETH to stay, people need to remember that he was not yet an employee of the club when the thoughts/ideas of sacking ETH was going round the club because he was still on 'gardening leave' from Newcastle. Therefore technically he was still under contract with Newcastle and thus his input into United would have been severely limited. I am sure the club asked Ashworth for his thoughts on the sacking of ETH but there is no way the club would have taken his views/opinions seriously due to the fact he was not yet an employee of the club. Yes he signed a contract at the club BUT until the end of contract date with Newcastle is reached, Ashworth would not have been a United employee when the decision to not sack ETH would have been made.

INEOS called it wrong on Ashworth, very poor reflection of their ability to run United. You'd have thought they'd have done their due-diligence on Ashworth before appointing him. I couldn't think of a worse appointment than Southgate who cost England a trophy in recent years with his negativity so clearly he's not aligned with the CEO/COO, performance and technical director's. I think Wilcox will step into the S.D. role, a job he held at Southampton. I hope everyone recognises everything Ralf Rangnick said about United has turned out to be true. Completely wasted being interim manager, should have been retained in a Sporting/technical role. He is intelligent enough to see what needed fixing.
