It's like looking at the light of a thousand dead stars vaporizing everything and everyone, those who are unfortunate enough to cross it's path. Look away from the initial flash, and you can almost convince yourself that a cloud has pass through the sun bringing sunlight back into the world, that optimism will soon shatter you once you start to hear the deafening, glass shattering explosion, destroying everything in it's path. When the sound fades, and if you are lucky enough to keep your vision for these last few moments, you can see the fiery portal to hell, releasing 1000's of tiny imps falling from the crimson sky, covering the demolished terrain into untouchable objects. As I stared into the portal of hell, I wondered how I survived, I was badly wounded, yet wondered how my body was being pierced by the gamma radiation, being badly wounded by the helicopter crash, the intense heat which felt like my blood was boiling, but none of that bothered me, I watched as my men and women in arms succumb to their untimely demise, that didn't bother me. I was found by a rescue team and brought me back to a nearby military base to treat my wounds. They told me that I would have between now and 15 years maximum to live due to the extreme radiation sickness, in the end, it wasn't the bomb, the people, the silence, nor the destruction that haunts me, Ernie, What haunts me the most, was mankind going out of it's way to open up the gates of hell itself to fight their wars for them. It was greed, Ernie, it was greed." -Pvt Burt.
4:04 on god it sounds like he’s hearing the screams of agony from the rest of the battalion squadron fleet, and then it’s only him, as compared to the original........ scary.
This has to be one of the Most Horrific and devastating scenes in Gaming History. Leaving the scene just in time to avoid getting vaporized at ground zero, but close enough to watch the bomb go off, as the shockwave decimates everything in its path heading straight for you......you realize it’s too late. You exit the Chopper thinking that maybe there is a chance you’ll make it out alive, only to have that hope sucked out of you when you see the mushroom cloud and crawl to your inevitable Death.
It's genius because it's a deconstruction of video game/action movie heroism. You got these amazing guys who take extreme risks to save lives. The Marines don't care about the risk to themselves, no man or women left behind is the motto. They charged right into the danger zone because they got guts. And then they die because of it.
Jj Marr they most likely would’ve still been impacted by the nukes emp and shockwave even if they decided not to save the downed heli pilot. It would’ve merely given them a extra minute at most to escape, and that’s simply not enough. I do agree that the nuke scene is still genius however.
kasra khatir Well it was a joint operation between the branches, kinda explains why the marines were using Blackhawks instead of Hueys during "Charlie Don't Surf"
Lancer Captain Spadez no he is right marines only use Blackhawks as VIP transport. Kinda strange DICE made the same mistake for Battlefield 3 and 4 with the little bird. These games do have military advisors right ?
Honestly one of the most flawlessly directed moments in any video game. Endlessly haunting and just fucking terrifying, the lack of music really helps the absolute nightmare that is portrayed here.
do you know the difference between professional soldier's morale and normal man's morale?? in the first Cold War's time special unit of usa and urss were trained to combat just after a very near nuke explosion
Artos Ap Nab Sure but they didn't fly in helis of the blast radius. You're going to fall out of the sky; when that happens I don't care who you are you'll have the sound of terror in your voice.
I'm glad they stuck with this. I replayed the mission a few times just because I thought I had failed the objective and didn't understand that this was inevitable...
Well lads, if you look into CoD Wikia (powered by FANDOM) you can see some interesting information about that mission. "Originally there were three objectives: "Get radiation equipment" (obj_origin = getent( "radiac_equipment", "targetname" );) "Locate commanding officer" (objective_add( 1, "active", &"AFTERMATH_OBJ_OFFICER", obj_origin.origin );) and "Find secure overhead cover." (obj_origin = getent( "overhead_cover", "targetname" );) These indicate that Jackson originally survived the explosion, but in the final version, he succumbs to death instead." callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Aftermath_(Call_of_Duty_4) you can find it in the "Trivia" section of the article.
@@kyan7708 Griggs and the rest of the platoon made it out. If they had gone higher after sweeping the area, Pelayo wouldn't have got hit by that random RPG. Two minutes translated in at least 5 clicks further from ground zero.
@Kristopher Bailey Not higher: further. They were very close to downtown when the nuke blew up. If Pelayo hadn't been hit by that random RPG, even if the EMP shot their choppers down, they would have survived the crash.
When I was little I was crying and i wanted Jackson survive the nuke explosion. When Jackson was crawling out the chopper I wanted a soldier to save him but no one was there. He died slow painful death. This mission was so sad. 😭😢
Yep. I had this feeling too. And I thought “is this the end of him? Or he will survive?” But when he fell on the ground, I realized what’s happening. Cyka blyat
The remastered version is great but could have been better. Notice the way Jackson puts his hand in front of him when the nuke goes off, it shows no emotion, and the man is looking at a nuclear bomb. Metro's first person animations always show the emotions of the main character, for example. Also, when you fall from the crashed helicopter in the original game the screen got blurry for a while while here you get some damage and that's it. Also when the helicopter is spinning and the nuke has gone off you can see some intact buildings out of the helicopter, they should be destroyed or falling or there should be smoke everywhere. I know I'm nitpicking but this is the best perspective of a nuke going off in gaming, the remaster could have made it even better than this.
@@peoduction6068 True that there may have been some details that are overlooked in the remastered version. But overall it is better than the original version in terms of visual wise. What bothers me is that people are being on a nostalgic trip on the remastered version of the game, despite they are the one asking for it. This is why we can't have good things.
Not completely... You maybe able to avoid the radiation completely. It'll be the breakdown of world economy and the decrease in food and pure water because no one will be around to make it for you... If you are in a nuclear shelter before hand and wear nothing but gas masks and heavy duty NBC suits before going outside, you are pretty much untouchable by radiation.
That's why Shepherd said in MW2 at the end "Tomorrow there will be no shortage of volunteers, no shortage of patriots" This Nuke turn a good commend, into a evil.
+me Col. Shepherd, the secondary antagonist general that betrays you in MW2, was leading the invasion in those missions. He lost most of his men, most that he likely trained and commissioned himself. It made him resent everyone who was involved. So he teamed up with Makarov to start a war.
i'll admit: i'm not big into playing games(occasionally get into them but in spurts and I'm terrible anyway) and have NO interest in COD but read about this scene in some article and looked it up and was stunned by how immersive it is. Despite being a game and not 100% true to life visually like maybe a movie or television, I was moved at how effective it was portrayed. Chilling and incredible.
You guys don't realize just how close they were to getting out of there alive. The guaranteed death zone of a nuke is about a 5 mile radius from the blast, the 3rd degree burns, little chance of survival zone goes out to about an 8 mile radius, further out than that you have a decent chance of surviving the blast itself (not including falling debris, radiation, etc.). I'd guess they were about 6 miles out when the nuke detonated, and considering Sea Knight helicopters have a top speed of 165mph, they could have survived if they had another 30 seconds or so of flight time.
Bluefire HD What? No, 30,000 people were not the cost of saving Pelayo. Only the 13 men who were on the Sea Knight, and we only assume they would have been at a safe distance. Plus, there were still other units trying to evacuate but didn't make it out. If you looked at the scene you would see the other Sea Knights and Cobras were still a distance behind Jackson's ride. Had Jackson's unit not saved Pelayo, there still would've been massive casualties with the Marines.
"(You) understand, Yuri? This is only the begining" - Vladimir Makarov (MW3 - Blood Brothers) "5 Years ago, i've lost 30,000 man in the blink of an eye. and the world just *freakin'* watched" - Gen. Shepherd (MW2 - Endgame)
They certainly made the crew chief's death more dramatic. The swift act of heroism from Sgt. Paul Jackson, trying to save his brother in arms, rather than the casual " I'm just going to watch you slowly slip out and die. "
I remember as a kid I didn’t understand radiation so I was like oh he’s fine just really banged up by the crash and when he died I just thought it was due to the crash
You’re dazed, injured... and you know you’re going to die, staring up at the real life version of hell... The destruction around you... Everyone with you dead. And the last thing on earth you see before you fade away forever is the very personification of Mankind’s evil achievements...
They should have added a scene where a soldier on the opposing side helps Jackson up and they both watch the mushroom cloud as they slowly die. I really like things where two enemies have mercy on each other like that one truce in world war 1.
I hate how at 4:57 Jackson doesn't have the same animation when he drops out of the chopter as in the original. It's just a stock damage effect. In the original, there is more intensity, you can hear Jackson gasp in pain and the vision gets blurrier and shaky for a moment.
@10,000 Videos With Actual Full Effort Videos? Never said the scene isn't still good. Eh, it might just be nostalgia speaking, but I kind of prefer the original over remastered. That's just my opinion though. They didn't change or fuck up things too much in the remastered so it's fine.
yeah theres no heartbeat either, it stops just as everything fades to white in the original. they sound like little nitpicks, but small details like that are what add gravity to a scene like this
I love how the pilot who got shot down sounded like she was having just another Monday. "Oh boy, here we go again going down in a helicopter and not a safe distance away from the nuke, what a day amiright?!"
Not that common. As someone who served alongside the Americans in Afghanistan, many of them scream and cry, pray to God and even soil and piss themselves. Some go outright crazy and put everyone else in danger. Sad to witness. That reality doesn't make it into games and movies though as it doesn't make anyone look cool. Not great for propaganda.
That's fucking horseshit. We need to prevent wars, not make people think they're cool. I highly doubt people who are in them love killing and feeling like they're going to die at any moment or coming back home with PTSD.
Tenchigo Hollywood and patriotism have always attempted to make their own countries troops seem cool and their country right and the enemies country wrong. Patriotic flag waving "look how good we are world, we're the best yeeeh hawwww!" Propaganda my friend, propaganda.
This MW remastered was the first of the classic CODs I ever played and I have to say this was and still is the most breathtaking thing I have ever seen from a video game.
If alex was jackson if the plot twist says alex real name sgt jackson like they did to soap in mw2 with captain mactivch plot name If some he old friend say his real name did like captain price did it will be cool epic people cry he back after damn 10 years
Can't say I like this remaster. The original scene had a much creepier atmosphere imo, with the heavy red tint in the air and the fact that you were the only survivor, completely alone in that wasteland for those few minutes.
theLV2 Well I think this can be just as effective Seeing your comrades dying with no way of helping them makes you feel helpless. Especially the pilot you just tried to save.
I used wrong word...my point is that they are soldiers and somethimes they used to not panic or something..Just like in Black Hawk Down.If you guys remember, perfect calm voice saying "we got a black hawk down,we got a black howk down...our bird is down".. This guys are tough as nails! (sorry for my bad english)

"Do you know what a nuclear bomb looks like up close, Ernie? They told me that I would have between now and 15 years maximum to live due to the extreme radiation sickness, in the end, it wasn't the bomb, the people, the silence, nor the destruction that haunts me,
Ernie, What haunts me the most, was mankind going out of it's way to open up the gates of hell itself to fight their wars for them.

Napalm1967 you got a point there
This has to be one of the Most Horrific and devastating scenes in Gaming History.
You clearly haven't seen the Metro Last Light Plane Crash scene then.
Phosphorous scene from spec ops
Jj Marr they most likely would’ve still been impacted by the nukes emp and shockwave even if they decided not to save the downed heli pilot. It would’ve merely given them a extra minute at most to escape, and that’s simply not enough. I do agree that the nuke scene is still genius however.

Combine Guard How do you know this?
Well lads, if you look into CoD Wikia (powered by FANDOM) you can see some interesting information about that mission.
"Originally there were three objectives:
"Get radiation equipment" (obj_origin = getent( "radiac_equipment", "targetname" );)
"Locate commanding officer" (objective_add( 1, "active", &"AFTERMATH_OBJ_OFFICER", obj_origin.origin );)

Some people: We demand a remastered version of MW!
*Years later when the remastered version is out*
Also some people: Eh the original is better.
Ean Scott Westridge so true
That's why Shepherd said in MW2 at the end
"Tomorrow there will be no shortage of volunteers, no shortage of patriots"
This Nuke turn a good commend, into a evil.
What
+me Col. Shepherd, the secondary antagonist general that betrays you in MW2, was leading the invasion in those missions. He lost most of his men, most that he likely trained and commissioned himself. It made him resent everyone who was involved. So he teamed up with Makarov to start a war.
he didnt team up
“Five years ago I lost 3,000 men in the blink of an eye, And the world just fucking watched”
In Mw3 it was revealed Makarov launched the bomb
i'll admit: i'm not big into playing games(occasionally get into them but in spurts and I'm terrible anyway) and have NO interest in COD but read about this scene in some article and looked it up and was stunned by how immersive it is.
I'd guess they were about 6 miles out when the nuke detonated, and considering Sea Knight helicopters have a top speed of 165mph, they could have survived if they had another 30 seconds or so of flight time.
the blast radius was 7.6 miles according to the radio from the helicopter but yes if they left the pilot behind they would have probably survived
Marines leave no man or woman behind, no matter the cost.
BlooKeeng Of 30,000 people?
But shit makes you think. Would they have made it if they just left that pilot? Would they have forgiven themselves?
Bluefire HD
What? No, 30,000 people were not the cost of saving Pelayo. Only the 13 men who were on the Sea Knight, and we only assume they would have been at a safe distance. Plus, there were still other units trying to evacuate but didn't make it out. If you looked at the scene you would see the other Sea Knights and Cobras were still a distance behind Jackson's ride. Had Jackson's unit not saved Pelayo, there still would've been massive casualties with the Marines.

Can't say I like this remaster. The original scene had a much creepier atmosphere imo, with the heavy red tint in the air and the fact that you were the only survivor, completely alone in that wasteland for those few minutes.
theLV2 eh. hearing your comrades struggle to breathe and hearing them choke on their own blood is kinda saddening.
theLV2 Well I think this can be just as effective
Seeing your comrades dying with no way of helping them makes you feel helpless. Especially the pilot you just tried to save.
bigbenhoward I personally enjoy both versions. The original made you feel alone and helpless, while the remaster made you feel helpless.
bigbenhoward Agree 100%
well these graphics were absolutely amazing..that's why I prefer the remastered version
Don’t mean to brag but I completed the crawling mission on veteran
Hardest mission to complete on veteran
You are bragging.
I speed runned the crawling mission on veteran
Wait, wouldn’t it be speed crawling?
I'd be more impressed if you completed Mile High Club on veteran
Thomas Wheeler weird flex but ok.
Everyone is repeating that that helicopter is going down in such a satisfied and cool tone
sounds like "hell yeah we're goin' down!"
It's army
19Marksman89 that doesn't change things
No that is not Army. Those are Marines. Marines use the Cobra attack helicopter. While the Army uses the Apache attack helicopter.
A scene so iconic, every CoD after would desperately try to one up it in a vain attempt to recapture the shock value.
No Russian was the last time the shock value actually had merit to the story....MW3 cheapened it with the little girl car bomb felt tacked on imo
"if you see a nuclear explosion, take a good look at it, because you only see it once... "
2:29 the dude gets shot in the leg and doesn’t even notice, chad
They shot the ramp of the chinook
Blade Spine no you could see blood
Its actually not far fetched to be shot in a high adrenaline situation and not notice immediately. Obviously you would notice very quickly though as soon as the conflict ended
He flinched a little and looked at the pilot if she's okay.

It's a seaknight not a chinook
