In a music industry still focused on singles Zeppelin was all about the album. There are so many deep tracks as some would call them that are just better than so many others best efforts. They are just better than everyone else. The second disc of Physical Graffiti was all or mostly songs that didn't make previous albums.
What a treat to hear this live version of Out On The Tiles. Plant just kills it on the vocals. Not an easy song to sing live. Those were the days for Plant and his awesome voice.
So rare!!! A song written because Bonham was "out on the tiles" out in the bar and came back singing ...Jimmy started playing a riff to it...and a song is born!!
plants vocals were so powerful at this time, such a kickass song too, underrated and shuld be played more on the radio rather than the same old zeppelin and they shuld of played this song alot more
Yeah, too bad it wasn't played more. The reason probably being that Plant was incurring a vocal injury that would limit his range and reliability for the rest of his career. No other reason the rest of the band couldn't handle this song any other night.
When I was a teen, you could get these cassette LZ bootlegs with very poor audio quality. Even then, the sheer intensity of the performance would break through the poor sound quality. It confirmed the power of that band, where you felt that even a bad recording from some dude in row 88 with a shit cassette deck could not make them sound less than majestic.
Thats good stuff.77 was a good year for me.My uncle was a security guard at MSG and walked me right into the press box to watch Jimi play with a bow and got blown away .was only 19 then.I was also very lucky to see them as my first concert at Central Park NYC for $1.50 general admission.i was front row for that. That was 1969 and holy shit am I getting old !
Plant imo. 68>72 had the greatest male vocal I’ve ever heard, Unadulterated raw power! Sure, it has cracks and flaws, but it has those peaks of sheer atomic bomb levels. Trinity test = Zeppelin
Señoras y señores. Los dioses son.los que tocan esta canción, roolisima, nadie podrá igualarlos. Y bonham en la batería pff hace pedazos a cualquiera inclusive a keith moon
As I walk down the highway all I do is sing this song And a train that's passin' my way helps the rhythm move along There is no doubt about the words are clear The voice is strong, is oh so strong I'm just a simple guy, I live from day to day A ray of sunshine melts my frown and blows my blues away There's nothing more that I can say but on a day like today I pass the time away and walk a quiet mile with you All I need from you is all your love All you got to give to me is all your love All I need from you is all your love All you got to give to me is all your love Oh yeah, oh yeah Oh yeah, oh yeah I'm so glad I'm living and gonna tell the world I am I got me a fine woman and she says that I'm her man One thing that I know for sure gonna give her all the loving Like nobody, nobody, nobody, nobody can Standing in the noonday sun trying to flag a ride People go and people come, see my rider right by my side It's a total disgrace, they set the pace, it must be a race And the best thing I can do is run All I need from you is all your love All you got to give to me is all your love All I need from you is all your love All you got to give to me is all your love Oh yeah, oh yeah Oh yeah, oh yeah Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah

As a kid one day I saw this B-Hill album on sale (one copy) in a record store. I ran home to steal the money for it and when I got back it was gone. Sigh.
Your a true rocker Pam.I didn't get into LZ 3 until 1970.The first time I heard "Since Ive been loving you",it blew me away just wanting more of those 4 guys from England, and back then I thought it was a brand new album .I never knew it was 3 yrs old already until now.But I AM one of the lucky few to see them live.More than once..rock on Pam!
In a early review of a Led Zeppelin concert it was said that Jimmy's guitar solos were like a chainsaw. Once he pulled the throttle all hell broke loose!
This is fantastic. They were utterly insurmountable as a live act back then. Page was a real tour de force in the earlier years when the group was consumed with enthusiasm. Those early gigs (especially the LA gig from 1970 and the concerts in 71 and 72 had inventiveness and brilliance in spades. I always think things began to lose their momentum around 1973 74.
+Doctor Freeman (Ulisse54) Not only is it spamming, but it's lying. Zeppelin never did that. Plant just found a different way to sing them, while sticking in the same key.
Shawn McKelvey Certainly. In a musical 'scale' (the notes in a certain key, for example in the key of C major, the major scale would be C D E F G A B C), notes repeat themselves over and over again (for example, working in C Major again, it would go C D E F G A B, then repeating until it's so high pitched only dogs could hear it). In the case of Robert Plant, he realized that, on Over The Hills and Far Away for example, he couldn't sing the original register anymore without straining, so if he sings a D for example, he would sing a lower D. The same Key, just a lower register of the D note. I hope that covers it.
Oh thanks Seb.Ya see, this is why I quit smokin weed.I'm fkn shot.it was 1969 and I'm one of the luckiest dudes in the world for LZ to be my 1st concert. It was Central Park in NYC.BB King opened,it rained that night, and the seats were $1.50 gen adm.I was 7 ft from MR.Plant .....Thank You God!.......but the point i wanted to make was if that was 69 and LZ1 was out.THAT means 1yr later, they already put out LZ 2 and then 3....Lemme go,I gotta blast Trammpled under foot..You ROCK SEB!
Sounds like Page is playing his telecaster here. Much less focused tone, more of a low-end fuzz distortion. Significantly higher tempo than studio recording, at any rate.
In other words, better LOL. Nonetheless, I suspect it's still a Paul, maybe the Black Beauty. Page's live tone was pretty thin for a LP. It was almost like he was trying to "Tele" his LP sound.
@Olympiakos71 I know that there so many variations of "Blue Berry Hill"--this one seems to be of extraordinary quality...I reckon the quality level is from a CD, as I have heard many renditions of this song from these old vinyls and no way is this version from the old TMOQ ones, although Rubber Dubber put out a rather rare double boot form June 4, 1970--which is rated as Excellent Audience sound. That one, however, doesn't have this tune on it--"Tiles" is one of my top 3 Zep songs.
This type if singing doesn't hurt if you care for the voice. High notes like the super high one from Since I've Been Loving You hurt the voice. What truly destroyed his voice was a combo of the smoking, drinking, lack of warm ups, and the super high notes.
Amazing sound quality, one of their best songs. I think Plant had occasional problems with this song - why they dropped it from the set list ? He freakin' NAILS it here though !! '...voice is oh so strong". Damn freakin' straight !! BTW, not being critical here...night after night in that register has to be a strain on the ol' voice box...I've just heard some poor versions though. This song used to give me an adrenalin rush back in HS daze....
I understand that since they wrote the song they can change it whenever they want, but Robert sings the 2nd verse backwards, and even then a bit different. just an observation, i happen to like that they mixed up their live shows.
Dude take it easy, Led Zeppelin is my favourite band ever. But i think Black Sabbath sounded extremely ahead of their time and so did Zeppelin but Sabbath in a predicting way. And Paranoid sounds nothing like Communication Breakdown imo, plus Paranoid was a song they threw in to fill the album it wasn't even meant to be there.
the song is from LZ3 which was released in oct 1970. They could have easily gone on a tour right after so the bootleg version could be from nov or dec 1970 still.
For those who collect bootlegs which version of Blueberry Hill is the best. I've seen 5 different sources for this concert but don't know which one is the best one.
@BeyondNeptune You're right about that... Not that Plant's lack of warm-ups for his vocal chords, and singing while sick with a cold or the flu didn't end up destroying his voice a couple of years later anyway. But this song, however awesome, has just so many high notes that it would have been better anyway not to make it a staple on set lists.
Is this from a vinyl boot? I have never heard such a great sounding quality of this top 3 Zep song on any vinyl, except for the snip they play on "Destroyer" which the band used as an intro to "Moby Dick". This is awesome!
Awesome
Out On The Tiles is on of Zep's most underrated tunes.
In a music industry still focused on singles Zeppelin was all about the album. There are so many deep tracks as some would call them that are just better than so many others best efforts. They are just better than everyone else. The second disc of Physical Graffiti was all or mostly songs that didn't make previous albums.
*The most underrated Zep tune.
Zep III in general. My fave LZ LP.
chorus especially!
This and The Rover
This is heavy as hell for 1970. People’s minds must’ve been blown at this gig
you're right man. People consider Black Sabbath and Deep Purple the grandfathers of metal, but Led Zeppelin put their quintessence on it too.
@Ron P if you read accurately my comment you'll see I didn't say that they are metal. But surely they were important for it
I e thought the same thing about "CommunicationBreakdown",which predates Sabb, and Purple, correct??
Check out SLB
Cant imagine the ones who were tripping.
You are so rare❤
Wow Plant's vocals here are impressive!! They all sound incredible!!
He starts singing out of tune
This is fucking 1970. We take Led Zeppelin and how fucking heavy they were for their time for granted.
Epic comment. I hope all is well in your world. 10 years ago, a lot can happen. Cheers.
@@DustyCowdog cheers, mate!
@@Sappyspartan --Sweet! Have a good 1!
Yes. This was 1970 when Planty could sing and reach the high notes!
That entrance was SO strong, I can’t imagine being in that crowd hearing it for the first time
Greatest band of all time... no one comes close
Freakin' most awesome Bonzo statement...made my night. John Henry...there is no other, there will be no other...ever...you are SORELY missed mate.
One of my most favorite Zep songs with some of Bonhams best drum licks

My favourite album. Great song.
Led Zep III,a woderfull album
I love it since i was very young
One of the best live performances I've ever heard.
This is one of only two times this song was ever played live in its entirety by Led Zeppelin. Sad that it wasn't played regularly.
What's the other time??
Yeah, too bad it wasn't played more. The reason probably being that Plant was incurring a vocal injury that would limit his range and reliability for the rest of his career. No other reason the rest of the band couldn't handle this song any other night.
@@bigsilva1596 check out as much of the 77 tour as you can - the intro and outro sandwiched bonhams solo it's often referred to as over the top
i love how 1:10 plants voice is so deep then right after.. back to SUPER High pitched.. I LOVE IT!
Oui , j’adore aussi
Great tune. LZ III was a wonderful album. Love "That's the Way"...wow.
THIS IS THE SONG THAT MAKES ME GROOVING MORE AND MORE THAN ALL OTHERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS FOREVER OUT ON THE TILES
Dumb paolinelli guy
such a LED ZEPPELİN song :D
2:56 is where Page opens it up with the slide guitar sound. That riff ranks among some of his best work ever imo.
For sure! It blew me away the first time I heard it. I’m not sure if he’s actually using a slide tho, I think it’s just his fingers.
agreed
nah that ain’t slide, would be more of a legato sound (glissando if you will)
Wow, this is a great live version of this song! RP sounds great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is an an extremely great zeppelin song, it's a shame they didn't play it live very often...
Imagine the impact of this song today....... amazing !!!

All I need from you is all your love
All you got to give to me is all your love
Oh yeah, oh yeah
Oh yeah, oh yeah
I'm so glad I'm living and gonna tell the world I am
I got me a fine woman and she says that I'm her man
One thing that I know for sure gonna give her all the loving
Like nobody, nobody, nobody, nobody can
Standing in the noonday sun trying to flag a ride
People go and people come, see my rider right by my side
It's a total disgrace, they set the pace, it must be a race
And the best thing I can do is run
All I need from you is all your love

First time hearing this version awesome been in my brain since October 5th of yesterday because of the release in 1970. 🤘🏻😍
In a early review of a Led Zeppelin concert it was said that Jimmy's guitar solos were like a chainsaw. Once he pulled the throttle all hell broke loose!
This would have been something to see live. Plant’s vocals at their peak, and ahead of their time as far as the heavy riffs.
One of my favorite page riffs
thanks for this. gotta love early zep bootlegs. and this was one of their kick ass early songs
One of my personal faves, no doubt!

Here Plant manages to sing this in the original studio key. in later years they often pitched the songs down so he could still sing them.
+Doctor Freeman (Ulisse54) Not only is it spamming, but it's lying. Zeppelin never did that. Plant just found a different way to sing them, while sticking in the same key.
+RyanThompsonGuitarist no he didn't because he blew his air raid siren voice out by 73 :( it was fucking unbelievable before that!
eatthisvr6 I'm still right. He sang them in a lower range, but still in the same key.
I'm not a musician; could you take a second and explain that? I thought those terms were interchangeable. Thanks.

I think he had a les paul in 1970, the tele was in commission for a very short time. most likely the les paul
That's definitely a Les Paul.
There's no way that anyone seriously thinks this is a Telecaster

Fantastic !!!

that snare drum is a fucking machine gun filled with bullets of magic
Its a great number off the superb third. Cannot work out how Page is playing what sounds like a backing riff and the main guitar part.

There was one other time at the evening show on their last of the 1970 tour in Madison Square Garden.
Robert Plant ? Best voice ever!
Para la idea de highway star de Deep Purple está inspirada en los primeros compases de Out on t'he tiles. És una curiosidad.
