- The Pond Pavilion was conceived as an interface between Man and Water .
It was designed as a temporary residence for a family while their existing house was being renovated and once it runs the desired course, it would transform into a home for friends and guests.
The design draws inspiration from age old " kulappuras " which used to dot the erstwhile landscape of the region connected to village and temple ponds . These structures served as a threshold into the ponds, creating a shelter to change before and after a bath. The architecture was meant to create an in-between space - a transition from sun to the waterbody . This simple structure would also signify the mere act of a bath into ritual knowingly or unknowingly prescribed before starting a day or entering a temple.
The pond pavilion houses two sleeping quarters and a toilet on the upper floor with large windows and a verandha overlooking the paddy fields and pond below. The lower area contains two spaces which are open to each other and may be used as and when, depending on what the occupants wanted to - a dining table and a day bed . These spaces are deliberately kept open without a joinery , opening into the pond , the edge of the room separating the outside and inside raised up as a seat where one can sit overlooking the pond and the paddy fields beyond.
The central vestibule , acts as a conduit facilitating movement from the earth to water, the experience heightened by the controlled volumes of the structure in width and height, the scale tamed to frame the water in the pond and the landscape beyond . In a way, this pipes one from outside to outside offering a fleeting moment of shelter.
The structure frames the monsoon and the morning sun, the rooms contain the emotions of the rain falling on the pond, the sounds calming the contained, and the smells of the landscape evoke the senses into a bliss, an experiential quality that creates a longing to belong, return and be one with the structure .

Peace, Loved the project😍
Excellent ❤❤❤❤❤
AMAZING WORK
